yeh i got 20cm 2.5" stainless steel intake pipe. afm on cooler pipe. its on the turbo pipe, which isnt recommended (as its hot air, and afm reads inaccurately), but i dun see any room on the cold pipe to mount the afm. didn really eliminate backfiring, til i got stand alone engine management.

bov blocked off..got a whole new stainless steel pipe made for it

doses n spools like vl turbo..alright to show off, but the high pitch dose really gets to u after a while..unless u got loud music inside the car :)

this thread is a joke, to all the morons obsessed with the fluttering noise, the only real flutter that sounds any good and is the cause of something useful comes from a wastegate, preferably an external one off a big turbo. Otherwise dont bother trying to obtain the noise through other means because it never sounds the same and it never sounds cool, its merely an imitation of wastegate flutter. People talking about thick intercoolers and huge pods giving the best noises rofl...its hilarious. Why would you want a 110mm thick intercooler on a car running a stock turbo that cant possibly flow enough? Oh to get the flutter lol. Sad that this thread only comes from last year, you'd hope its from like 2003 or something when imports were new and people wanted to make them "fulleh sik" with flutter noises.

LMFAO...

erm you are taking the piss aren't you? RE: Real flutter from Wastegates

erm how so? What exactly do you think a wastegate sounds like when you back off, im not talking about when its open on full boost obviously.

from one of HPI movies HKS street drag meeting... all the gtrs had fluttering when backing off its real fast and sounds way better than a bov flutter...but i dont think this was from bovs .. could be other factors...but very lound and fast flutters

but i was also under the impression that any aftermarket bov will flutter at low rpms (or before you hit boost) ? not quite sure... please do advise me

Dude, please... do us a favour

Go and read, understand, and re-read just for out benefit so you can understand the basic function of car parts

And then read this entire thread as its probably been covered a dozen times.

An external wastegate does not give you flutter. ;):no:

Regardless of... backing off, on boost, cruising with your homies, having seks with your mrs in the back seat.

External gates have absolutely nothing to do with "flutter".

Dont try and agrue the fact that it does, otherwise ill even link a video of my car and you can hear for yourself that there is no flutter due to a wastegate.

Simple.

Well its been around 4 months since the last time I blocked off my BOV for some fully sick flutter. The last time I did this my car kept stalling and I could always smell fuel so I changed it back. I decided to try it again a few days ago and so far my car has been running really well. I used the old coke can trick and blocked off the Manifold pipe. My car hasnt backfired since and seems to be starting up alot easier. The gear changes also feel alot quicker. If my stock BOV is getting old can it casue the car to backfire and not start properly? Flutter is fully sick, lol :glare:

But flutter on standard skyline ceramic turbo = no go zone unless your looking for an excuse for a bigger turbo.

My 2 c.

Then why didn't mine come with one from factory? (hr31 coupe)

You should give Nissan a call and ask em...

this is a quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wastegate

Wastegate chatter myth

The noise is in fact the air compressed by the turbo passing back through the compressor housing of the turbo after having hit the now closed throttle plate.

A blow-off valve (BOV) will usually eliminate this noise, but in some cases, i.e. where it doesn't open fast enough or is setup to only react to high boost, some chatter will remain.

Turbo Flutter = Fully Hectic ... remove the BOV and seal the hole up my friends.. it does no damage to anything and that's a promise.. the only reason nissan even use BOV is due to old men not liking the sound when they drive the car.. they didn't put it on there to protect anything but our ears.

ceramic exhaust or compressor wheel?

bovs i believe came factory on turbo nissans late 80s

so like 89 i think the mainstream run for the bovs

as nissan (probably) found they increased turbo reliability and emissions

the bov was fitted on factory cars for a reason

take it off or block it if you wish, but its doing some damage

how much i cant say, but its doing some

the service life was changed after bovs were factory fitted

so there is obviously some justification behind it

Just out of curiousity how is it possible for air to flow back through the comp wheel? like im guessing it doesn't stop the impeller spinning, but how does it happen, does it flow back through the comp housing and whilst stopping all air slow down the impellor heaps or does it just travel around the impellor or wa? Was trying to figure it out the other day

I wish someone said that to me and backed it up with a "i'll highflow your turbo if it blows".

I just wonder how many people its happened to? I changed from a bleed valve to a EBC, put the boost back to where it was and blocked the bov to see how it would sound, then BANG. Both compressor wheel and exh wheel shattered, both wheels were ceramic aswell scared the shit out of me to be honest.

    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly. • Went to a drift practice day at a local circuit (held on the reserve parking area behind the grandstand) for the first time in about 15 years. Some kei cars were drifting as well, a not so surprising Suzuki Carry truck, and two 1st gen Daihatsu Copens that were converted to rear wheel drive(!) using Daihatsu Boon X4 transfer case, prop shaft and rear diff, obviously omitting the front driveshafts. They looked really fun to slide. I heard that they cost "about half" as much as a Nissan Silvia etc to run.  On the track 'Tech M' a local BMW tuning garage had a customer track day. Mainly recent models but there was one E36 which looked ancient among all the current models. It was cool watching the drifting and then turning around and seeing random people thrashing their M3/4s  central-circuit-drift-practice-2025-05-18-long-yt.mp4

    • I would like to keep it around 15k but if I need more to make it reliable and not have to worry about the car breaking I can go more. It's my project car so I'm just trying g to figure out what needs to be in it i know basic things like turbo cams injectors I'm just unsure of the size and the specifics so I'm spending alot of time on Google and its mostly rb25 and rb26 not alot on neo
