hmmm I did say for street use, right? for me the only tyres worth using on a track a proper semi slicks. everything else is just frustrating when you try and get the most out of the car. even the semi-semi slicks like 595RSR or KU36 really don't cut it on the track

I'm using them for drifting, not for track track work i.e. grip racing.

Although I'm still on a track, not being used for grip racing.

not sure what you are hearing, or from whom sydking....but I run the 595SS on my stagea and they are an excellent daily tyre.

yes they are not a semi slick (like re55s) or even a semi semi slick like (595RS or KU36), but they are a very good price/performance compromise for daily use.

plenty of NSW club members are running the 595SS due to the very good prices through the club, I don't know anyone who thinks they are not good

just form what ive read here, But for $220 odd per coner for RSR..... why would you settle for second best. And now that you said the SS are good, ive even more inclied to get RSR as they would be even better

Realistically though you shouldn't be driving that hard in the first 5 mins anyway as you need to let your car warm up. So it was a non-issue as far as i see it.

Same. 255 all round RSR on the GTR (235 all round RSR on the Sierra) - very good tyre and I am not sure why people are complaining about wet weather performance.... they are "good" in the wet.... but giving it heaps in a turbo car in the wet is not my style... prefer to slow a little and look out a bit more for road numpties. Never had it sideways in the wet when I did not want it to be.

is it fair to say that the softer the tyres or the lower the wear rating , the better the grip of a tyre ( obviously interested in dry conditions here) so should that be the criteria if you want to lay some serious power down without wheel spin? the rsr is looking very good value

yes, essentailly, but also a bit of a moderating aspect of this is the warm up time for the tyre. Some tyres warm up quicker than others, so basically some tyres spend more time with poor grip until they are up to a preferable operating temp.

This is the main problem with semi-slicks for street use. Grip is amazing and prob exactly what we are after if we are trying to put down serious RB power. But its the warm up factor that means it isnt as simple an issue as look at the grip level and balance this with your power level and away you go. (then throw in winter and in particular wet weather driving and its a far more complicated decision).

Hence why alot of people seem to pick the Fed' SS over the RSR. The warm up time is quicker which means you actually have higher grip for more of the time 'in the real world'.

The SS is cheaper than RSR, how do these compare with a kuhmo or an toyo r1r? cause theres a big prices difference between the federals and these. only considerations for me are dry grip, quiet, and price

Horses for courses i suppose. After having a set of SS's on a 33 gtr i will never buy federal tyres again. Had fairly decent bridgestones & toyos on a 300kw 33 gtst but the best tyres i had on her were yoko S drives. Now having a r34 gtr i chose to shod her with ad08's. Yoko aren't on the cheap side of the scale for good reason but if your car is for street dutys & occassional track days you really can't compare, they are the complete package. Leave the federals for tyre frying drift sessions, that's all they're good for

Warm up time was minimal as all tyres on the gtst were essentially road tyres. Toyo's had similar dry weather grip and treadwear to the yoko's but wet weather the yoko's won hands down.

From experience, KU31 > SS595. You can still pick them up cheap from st george/tempe tyres (Sydney). They last at least 20,000km as well.

Best tyre I've ridden on was a set of used RE050 :P RE040 are also pretty good. I would actually rate KU31 to having almost the same grip as RE040.

Has anyone tried KU39?

My GT-R came with Falken Zeix tyres, rubbish in the wet. The wheels I put on came with camber worn KU31s, they were better in the wet than the Zeix was in the dry (from memory). I have a set of old 2nd hand Azenis (can't remember the model) at the moment. Doesn't mean that much since it's old and 2nd hand, but the KU31s that I put on before gripped more in both wet and dry.

Street driving only.

Not pee on your parade, but everyone knows the federal super steels are shit. And the 595 rsr is where its at.

Understeer central when i had these on..... Then went to a Kuhmo KU36 and they have been good BUT RSR is the next choice...... Should be going on in a few weeks ready for nats!

Am thinking just the standard 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 combo but not sure what is legally allowed for street use, possibly 245 and 285? I'm not sure?

bammm... I've tried to say they were shit too but without insulting anyone.. noone even acknowledged my post

Tissue? Jokes, well old mate brisvegas says federal tyres are shit, because he had the shittest tyre from their range on haha.

RSR for me soon :)

I don't think you're fairly comparing tyres, Bridgestone RE sports? Toyo T1 or R1 tyres? Compared to a cheap daily tyre (595ss) I think you should compare to RS-R to be on the same level.

I prefer wetwipes lol

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
