i have a auto r32 4 door....i've got a garrett gt30, fmic, pod down the front for cai and a 3 inch turbo back exhaust with no cat....

i made 226hp at the wheels (around 170kw) and 567nm of torque on 10 psi of boost.....in an auto its good because you don't loose boost during gear changes.... when my car was standard i raced a 2 door r32 even though it was a rolling start and he took off one car length ahead of me i won by around 3 car lengths....

the guy who does the work on my car owns a turbo torana with a stally and a 2 speed auto, he ran a 10.7 even after his fuel cut out the last 100m of the quarter...

he told me in an auto you will lose some power but might make up cos you won't lose boost through gear changes, my first changes at 8 grand so its a bit sluggish...

he told me in a manual i will feel the power more....and if i'm a good driver than i will do good down the quarter....but most ppl who want to go quick usually get an auto for the pure fact that boost is not lost through the gear changes....

I'm running my car next week so ill let you guys know how i do....

then ill do a before and after.....

man that is very cheap . did he explain why it was so cheap ? id be wondering .....

if you look around you can find a full manual conversion kit for under a grand

for an rb20det it was $900

The kit consists of: Gearbox & cross member & Tailshaft

Flywheel & Bolts

Clutch & bolts

Clutch & Brake Pedals

Clutch Master & Slave Cyl (pipe not cut)

Sandwich Plate

Body Dust Seal & Gearstick Boot

It contains everything to convert Auto To Manual.

if your in luck the clutch will be good, whoever does it will machine your flywheel aswell....but i would buy a new clutch.....

if you ask around for labour then you might get it cheaper than 2 grand all up....

also depending on how much your clutch costs....

and if you need help there's guys that have done the conversion and know how to perfect it just use the search and there's all the info you need....

Nah it didnt do anything on the dyno

But with the change of power to the shifts thats the power gain i were getting at compared to what a manual would lose they'd be very similar one would think now.

The best thing about autos though is no paying for clutches :)

But that isn't a change in power, its less time between shifts.

Depends which way you look at it.

With the standard valve bodies the gears will change slowly as to not jolt the car to make it a smooth ride.

With a modified torque/stall converter power is not restricted nor lost as its transfered alot faster.

*shrugs*

Could you point me in the direction of where to get one of these R32 GTS-t full manual conversion kits for 900?

I have to agree with you though, the few who try and give me a run all apear in the rear view vission mirror.

haha

yor funny old man

i know who would win with an auto vs manual with same mods

id say most 200kw manuals would put pay to your 220kw auto

besides, who wants to drive an auto?

not me

i aint no taxi driver (even if i do have 4 doors)

I dare say the myth is based on the rough calculation of manual drivetrain losing 30%. I would guess it wouldn't be a long shot for an auto with a dodgy torque converter to bump the loss up to 40%. It's definaltely not 40% OVER a manual. that's just stoopid. why do all good drag cars run autos?

saying that, i'm a manual lover, you just dont "drive" an auto the way you do a manual. takes some of the skill out of it :P imo.

id say most 200kw manuals would put pay to your 220kw auto

Please explain why a 220kw car should be beaten by a 200kw car? (Assuming similar suspension setups and equal driver skills)

Remember an auto can start on boost, unlike a manual, and it gets the benefit on more torque. There is a reason why almost all top levels of motor sport (drag, F1, rally) use auto boxes. You sound like just another 15yr old NOOB talking out of your ***.

mate, Formula 1 cars DO NOT use auto gear boxes. they are full manual up and down shift. Rally Cars DO NOT used auto gear boxes. V8 Super Cars DO NOT use auto gear boxes. Sports Sedans DO NOT use auto gear boxes. JGTC cars DO NOT use auto gearboxes. Other than drag racing no top level form of motor sport uses auto gearboxes.

Yes, auto's have an advantage at the drag strip. big deal. if you wanted a drag car I think you would be better off with an 800kg 13b turbo powered RX3 with a two speed. Any other form of motorsport and the only auto you will see is on the cars and trucks that are used to tow the race cars.

Formula 1 cars DO NOT use auto gear boxes...

:werd: alot of people mix up sequential manuals with autos. I call them automatic manuals ie the shift is automatic, but the box isn't; no torque converter, no planetary gear system, etc. If it has a torque converter it's an auto, if it dont, a manual. simple.

So 4 door sleeper, it would appear that YOU are the "15 yr old NOOB talking out of your ***" :)

I cited the drag strip argument to illustrate nothing more than that every auto in the world isn't utterly shite beside a manual. saying that, no full auto could ever emulate the insight of correct gear selection before reaching a corner etc, nor can it offer the weight set up into corners etc. I'll say it again, you dont DRIVE an auto, save fiddling with the throttle to try and get the f*&ker into the gear you want.

I'd even go out on a limb and say that drag racing is the only racing that an auto is suited for. Awesome for starts, cause all you have to think about is the right revs, then stomp it as soon as you're off the brakes. no clutch bite to worry about.

Remember an auto can start on boost, unlike a manual,

dont know much about manuals eh?

i can start on boost

i just rev up (to say 5000rpm)

let clutch out, revs drop slightly boost comes on straight away

voila, lauching on boost!

im sure if autos were the shit as you preach pops, that gtrs and other performance cars would come in auto as standard

they dont seem to though do they?

autos have their place though (drag cars, cars for people that are easily distracted and need two hands on the wheel at all times, taxis)

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
