Sydney Skyline Dealer Reputation

Guest reggin

hello everyone, i am from Adelaide and am coming over to Sydney next month to purchase an R34 gt-t, after looking mainly on the trading post website among others i have found several that i like from dealers mainly, the dealers in question are japlink motors, fuji motorsport, northshore prestige and prestige car exchange, i have read several times on the forums that dealerships on Paramatta Road are dodgy, is this correct or more of a stereotype? if anyone has had or knows of any positive or negative expierences with any of these dealers or any others in Sydney please leave your comments or PM me, thanks people

Well.. from what I looked at when buying my car the dealers didn't impress me, one of the ones that did was northshore prestige - ben was very helpful when I was looking at them, although their cars were slightly over priced (couple of 1k) and had strangely even numbers of km's on them for oldish (1996) cars.. :D

I ended up going private sale for mine.. which was a great choice but didn't have a warranty with it.. if your in adelaide though a 3 month warranty is a long way..

really it's hard to say until you get there.. i'd suggest looking at some private sales if you get a chance 2.. lot of good cars for sale at the moment I believe..

PowerPlay in Drummoyne has some for sale. Service is friendly. Car's are quality

my advice is simple. look at as many cars as you can, both dealer and private. then when you have found one that you like pay the money for an NRMA inspection. yes they wont compression test etc, but they are very, very good at spotting things like previous accident history, and potential roadworthy issues that you wouldn't even think of. plus every little point they bring up is a bargaining chip for you to use when negotiating price. these guys inpspect cars all day long so they know what they are doing.

I got my R33 from Northshore Prestige. The guys there were always willing to help out in any questions I had.

For something like an R34 GT-T I'd definitely go for a dealer or import one myself because there simply isn't as much choice in the private sales market - you may be waiting awhile (with frustration) for the right one to come up.

I have bought three cars from Prestige Car Exchange.

Last one was an R34.

They source their cars from the same from the same buyers that supply a lot of the dealers in Sydney but don't have the same overheads as the Parramatta road dealers.

Beer Barons advice is good though - look at as many as you can - prices and condition can vary a lot, as can the mods that come with the car - mine had Tein suspension and cat back as well as new alloys which all ad value.

Guys, i picked up my "Micky Mouse" condition R33 series II with genuine 50K from Japlink motors on parramatta rd and i have to say they have the best service at excellent prices! MTA approved too... they specialise in R32, R33 & R34 Skylines, 300zx's as well as GTiR's and Toyota Chasers...

Ask for Sam, and tell him Sarkis with the silver R33 recommended you... you will be looked after!

contact details: 02-97160857

Japlink have their own workshop and compliancing unlike most other 'shonky' car yards... all cars come with 3 months warranty as well as extentended warranty if needed...

Sarkis

As a very general comment - I personally don't like going to the Parra Rd dealers. I find them quite full on - they all seem to be pressuring you for the sale the moment you walk on the yard.

Based on my own experience, my recommendation would always be Powerplay (Victoria Rd, Drummoyne). Their cars are always of the best quality, there's no pressure to buy, if you're serious they'll take you for a decent test drive, and they look after their customers after the sale.

i hate dealers on parra rd (got my car there) i can give the name of the place i had extremely big problems with but since then as far as what i see from driving past they do not do imports anymore so thankgod they have by the looks of it shut em down from import selling due to all the dodgyness and no idea at all

last time i was there i got a 15 minute speech about how japan is too small a place to be able to rack up more than a few thousand kms each year, YEAH RIGHT! anyway my point is, you should not assume your kms are genuine, meaning changing at least the timing belt right away, and not waiting another 50,000kms.

The EPA regulations in Japan are different to here... after certain km's cars are auctioned off overseas (i know this cause i contacted an importer in Toykyo, Japan myself via email) it is possible to get an R33 with 50 - 70K's but you have to know where your buying from... i been to the docks and seen fresh R33 imports with 60K's and even '98 R34's with 17 - 25k's so a 96 R33 with 50K is possible.. although ur right alot of shonky yards do wind the clock back but its obvious wen you see a R32 or R33 with worn out interior... over all poor condtion with 60K on the clock... if you know what to look out for you can tell!

And considering i had a full inspection on the car and scoring 95% as well as having my mechanic run an inspection on O2 sensor, timming belt, chasis.. etc the car is in absolutle immaculate condition!

The guys at japlink are not pushy at all... i went there 6 or 7 times and test drove about 4 different skylines untill i made my choice and even after purchase i was looked after for servicing among other things... at the end of the day all yards have to pay rent, wages and they need an income too.. but from all the other yards i been to (bout 10 of them) Japlink gave me the best deal and service! wont hurt to go and see them... talk to Sam

Hey all, this is my first post... I purchased my 32 GTST from Japlink and found them great to deal with. It had 89k on the clock, but regardless if these were genuine or not it was still in pristine condition both inside + out. As with QRI05E I had an inspection done, and it scored in the high 90's with only 1 or 2 minor probs (which they rectified). I've had it for about 6 mths with no problems whatsoever. Can't fault the service either.

Most of the Parra Rd dealers do tend to pressue the buyer a little though... I'd look around a bit. But I would reccomend having a look at Japlink.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
