Duncan's Race Car - The Most Overdue Build Thread On Sau

If people in the retirement village are driving GTR race cars it sounds like a pretty good place to be -
NZ R33 Long Term Build
soviet_merlin replied to R3N3's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
How long does it take to get the oil to temp with the oil heater? I presume it is fitted by factory on Skylines only? 10-15 minutes of doodling around to get the temps up sounds about right for my Stagea. It's not terrible, but somewhat annoying. I presume more so when self-inflicted 15 minutes of grandma driving feels like an eternity when it's a daily thing. -
Man, tell me about it! We were looking forward to it for weeks. Are you going to upload photos? I was a bit worried about the wagon on Sunday. There's a tear on one of the driveshaft boots. It had been puking grease everywhere. Thought it might be better to not boost it through the twisties. I now learned it is not that big a deal and it looks worse than it is. Anyways, will get it sorted next week. So yeah, very much looking forward to Bathurst now!

Meh, not going to make it after all. Hmpf. Aiming for the Bathurst cruise now in two weeks.

Oh, I have to be careful with sarcasm on the internet. Please don't buy from Alibaba unless you know what you are doing! Don't skimp on things that affect your health and safety. And buying a shipping container's worth of anything is most likely not a good idea. As the others have said, buy genuine parts and sleep sound knowing that they are safe.

Very much looking forward to this!

So yes, it was the grommet behind the wheel guard liner. Water went down the wiring and straight through. Thanks for the tips everyone! Didn't see it sealed but I presume lots of Sikaflex as you guys mentioned. Luckily it wasn't due to corrosion.

Seems like the first step towards a Knight Rider KITT cockpit. Though to be honest part of me is going "I don't need, I don't know what I would do with it, but I kind of want it". Especially because the ashtray is wasted space. Can you turn off the illumination?

Blitz Dual _ Sbc Spec S Boost Controller
soviet_merlin replied to Silver_R34_GT-T's topic in General Maintenance
What are you doing anyway? Are you running an automotive technology museum? Like you say even the early 2000 Blitz website doesn't list this one. blitzpowerusa that is mentioned in that facebook post doesn't have it either. I have a feeling the pragmatic solution might be to not run ancient hardware. I thought I was good with internet stuff but I give up -

Makes me wonder whether you need to go full Japanese. Jahoo Japan, Japanese search and all that shebang. You have probably come across this one? https://m.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.251913441533137.65385.244204408970707&type=3 -

Do you have a clip of what the horn sounds like? I'm curious now. What made you go for Indian truck style? -

This was great fun! I was a bit sceptical about electric gokarts but it really scratched the right itch. Feels good once the higher power levels unlock. A bit noisy in the venue which is ironic considering that the karts are silent. We are actually going to be back on Sunday morning to work on those lap times. With the 20% off from the code on the wristband and off-peak times it ends up being ~$24 for a session which is much more reasonable. If anyone is interested in going again feel free to get in touch. It's pretty local for us and I'd like to do a bit more of this. Some photos from the day: Ronald borrowed one of the phone mounts that they lend out. Short clip with somewhat Naked Gun intro vibes. clip.mp4 Not really any car photos. Not sure where people parked. We just came across Sam on the way in. So there's two chubby Nissans. -
Thanks Danny, much appreciated! That makes it clear and it sounds pretty straightforward actually. The car is booked in for Tuesday. Not sure if I'll look at it before then. The car is dry, it's sunny for the rest of the week, I have a long list of things to do, an even longer list of excuses and two left hands. Will update on how it goes either way

Blitz Dual _ Sbc Spec S Boost Controller
soviet_merlin replied to Silver_R34_GT-T's topic in General Maintenance
Hah, have you tried the Blitz website? They have a section for discontinued products and they still link to the manuals. Product number would help there as well. See for example https://www.blitz.co.jp/products/electronics/sbc/sbctypes-r.html Not sure if same controller. They seem pretty good with that stuff -
I love how you have the photos from the same angle in the same spot. It is such a big contrast. One looks like serious business and the other is as understated as a GTR can be.

Reason 370GT Coupe's FWS are all disabled
soviet_merlin replied to Vee37's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
From what I have read HICAS only kicks in at speed, i.e. 80km/h upwards. So not much help in parking lots unless you go full Tokyo Drift. I found this topic helpful. Haven't really seen it described well anywhere else. -
Thanks for the pointers! Will have a look in the next days. Plenum drain must be the worst name for it to go looking online. Closest I have found is this topic on MGs. I'm not ruling out other things leaking, but pouring water into the vent ends up with at least some of it dripping down into the footwell. The car has a mostly garaged history and little of the typical Stagea rust. So I'm keeping my hopes up that it's not a rusty nightmare hiding in there. Any hints on where to look for that drain? Do the vents need to come out?

Yeah, they seem to be filling somewhat quickly. I don't really see a good way of keeping it together for a group. Or are you thinking to book it on the day when there? -

Thank you for mentioning this! This hit a nerve and I feel personally called out even though it wasn't directed at anyone. Bumped it back to the top of the list of things to do on the car. -

We ended up booking for four of us for 5.30pm and 6.15pm. See how it goes. -
I'm dealing with this issue currently. Makes me wonder whether it is somewhat common and people don't notice as long as it is not bad enough. Had spots of slightly damp carpet under the floor mats every now and then and always thought it came from the top. As in it dripped down from shoes or so. But it's definitely going from the vent under the windscreen down behind the carpets. It must have gotten a lot worse recently. The foam under the carpet was just wet but not musty or anything. The foam under the plastic/rubber behind the pedals seems to have been wet for much longer as it smelled much more musty. On the plus side the car is now probably the driest it has been in a long time. Booked it in to have someone who knows what they are doing have a look at it. Definitely no driving in the rain until then. Some photos for what it's worth. A cm or so of standing water under the carpets. Nice. Water goes in here And part of the water comes out there Dry motherf**ker, dry! I panicked at first and almost bought a proper heavy duty drying fan from bunnings. In the end it turns out the shitty fan heater and old hair dryer work just fine.
