Cams Approved Fire Extinguisher Bracket
soviet_merlin replied to DattoP510's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Just as an FYI, these are in stock again. Lots of photos already in this thread. Just received mine recently but haven't had a chance to install it yet. Looks mint though. See www.trackdaysetup.com to order them. -
MLR's Bogan cruise ship
soviet_merlin replied to The Bogan's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Haha, see how it goes! Good to know that it works out alright. Don't know if it has been that long, but I wouldn't be surprised. The cabin filters certainly looked like it when I replaced them. Will keep an eye on supercheapauto and wait for a sale. -

Which model of the bissell steam cleaner are you using? Is it one of those you can get at supercheapauto? I quite like the idea of doing that to get 20+ years of gunk out of the carpets in the car. Have been holding off though as I wasn't sure whether the "cheapy" ones would be any good. -
NZ R33 Long Term Build
soviet_merlin replied to R3N3's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Hah, and I didn't see yours when I was looking for some. Looks like it's a similar idea / design. It's one reason why I like reading the build threads here. Like for example the custom ashtray keypad mount you mentioned a few posts earlier went straight on the maybe-one-day-santa-list -

How are you mounting them? If you haven't made up your mind yet, there are some custom made brackets for sale on the forums that mount under the seat. The topic is a few years old but they still make them and I just received mine one or two weeks ago. Haven't put it in yet though. They have them in stock again now. See this post for details: -
Holy mother of downforce! Looking forward to seeing some action shots of the car with it fitted.

One more question: do you have an opinion on original spigot bushing versus spigot needle bearing? Via taarks the latter is described as "These needle bearings replace the stock brass spigot bush in the end of the crank that the gearbox input shaft goes into. The needle bearings last longer and put less stress on the gearbox and are also quieter." Looks like in the forums people recommend the original bushing but no mention why.

Hey folks, I'm looking at getting a new clutch and was wondering what you recommend to use for all the bits beside the actual clutch. To refresh it all whilst it's open. Do you get OEM? Or are there better aftermarket parts? From discussion with my mechanic this is what I'm mainly looking for: spigot bearing clutch fork clutch pivot ball flywheel flywheel bolts release bearing Striked through parts already come with the kit. This is for the pull type clutch on my 260awkw C34 Stagea. I'm getting a Nismo Super Coppermix Twin Plate. I like it to be somewhat future proof and it's my daily so driveability is important. Lots of topics on clutches on the forums but I didn't see much on the little bits around it. Thanks!

SAU NSW - Legacy Cruise - Robertson Pie Shop - Saturday 26th November

Hmpf, we can't make it after all unfortunately -
This looks awesome! When you say the LEDs can be set by user, is it fully customisable? When I think of shift lights, I'm picturing it lighting up from the outside to the middle. Like below . . . . . . . . . (all LEDs off) | . . . . . . . | (outside LEDs on) | | . . . . . | | | | | . . . | | | | | | | . | | | | etc. then blink at the below for shift | | | | | | | | | Is that possible? Also what is involved in getting it done? Have to send in the steering wheel I presume?

Seems so civilised! The second clip that is. Is that the part of the footage your wife gets to see? By the way, how did you attach the gopro in the car? The angle works really well.

off street sealed road for driver training
soviet_merlin replied to PranK's topic in New South Wales
Huh, it may have been a few months since we were there. Glad to hear it worked out well regardless. Where did you end up going? I will make a note then because we might be back at some point as well. Are you practicing on a manual or automatic transmission? It certainly takes some patience either way. It has also been the only time I have seen a CEL triggered in my car. Kind of made me go "maybe we should practice in something I don't care as much about". Can't necessarily trust the driving instructors either. Jen did a few hours with one to just get some exposure on proper roads. She ended up coming home complaining how her leg was cramping and wondering how people do it. Turns out he told her to keep the car in gear and the foot on the clutch at the lights. What the heck?! PS: Two more options that I noted down but didn't actually try WSU Parking on Parramatta Road https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/WSU+Parking/@-33.8097503,151.0259537,17.7z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x6b12a372fe3b5985:0xfc6609c5a7c9cce8!8m2!3d-33.80956!4d151.0268641?hl=en And the Ikea Temp car park. -

As someone who has always lived city-ish this still blows my mind. So you could putter around for half an hour on your driveways and never leave your property? Amazing! -
Haha I was actually thinking that. Feels good though. Transponders were in the briefing room on the table. Just next to the passenger sign on. > M3 would have done the entire event with 1x tank of fuel. I smashed 1.5 tanks yesterday lol. Sure, and also could have played classical music and have the baby sleeping in the back. Kind of.

Personally I think it might be too difficult finding private land like this. I'd go for a big empty parking lot and not worry about it. Clip on the Ls and I doubt anyone will say anything. I took Jen to one of the big parking lots at Olympic Park to learn to drive manual. Around P5. It is sealed, though there was a bit of gravel on it when we there. Otherwise it's great. Huge empty open space. This should show where it is I hope: https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/33°50'03.7"S+151°04'08.5"E/@-33.8343627,151.0668374,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xe72e1f9bd1b18021!8m2!3d-33.8343627!4d151.0690261?hl=en Looks like they are running a cycling school there now so would have to go at a time where they are not running it. In the evening for example. Don't have any photos, but here's 8 seconds of first time manual driving glory at that spot. That's about half to a third of the space. It's huge. driving_practice.mp4 -
Nice to meet you and thanks for the ride! Also, holy shit you don't hold back. Full approval for the rolling anti-lag button. Even Jen mentioned the flames. Will try and get some footage next time. Your car looks and sounds great flying down the straight in the time attack run. Don't replace it with an M3. It would have nothing on this. And yes, I agree that more timed sessions would be great. Will try those next time. I completely missed the first one and was amazed how empty it was for the second one. Also none of the numpties on the track for those.

Release bearing part number R33GTSTS2?
soviet_merlin replied to Torques's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
For what it's worth, Amayama lists some potential replacements: https://www.amayama.com/en/part/nissan/3050269f10 I don't know whether this is right for you though. What is your situation? I have started doing research for a clutch refresh on my car and the release bearing comes with the Nismo kit that I'm looking at. -
370gt coupe Retrofitting
soviet_merlin replied to marcus1070's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Please report back with how you go! They look great in the photos. But then I saw the list of ingredients and went "yeah nah, I would completely stuff that up". @Vee37, do you know of any professionals who do this? I like the idea of getting a well fitting cover instead of going for a whole new steering wheel. -
The latest email from the New South Wales Legislative Assembly on the matter. Would anyone care to explain what this means? Wasn't the whole point of the petition to have this discussed in the Legislative Assembly? I read this as "sucks to be you" but I have no understanding whatsoever about how these things work.

It cracks me up to no end that you have a fridge in the car! There's something about the thought of hitting the drag strips with cooled pastries in the back that just hits right. Have you ever been to Patisserie Schwarz in Wentworth Falls? If you are out that way it's well worth stopping by. Proper Western European pastries. It gets a bit busy and not a lot of seating but their baked goods are top notch. (Context) -
