  1. that's a generalisation... from what i have seen, spark plugs are generally either gapped at 0.8mm or 1.1mm in their "factory" form eg NGK coppers: BCPR6ES-11 or BCPR6ES - both the same plug, both brand new, and as you might guess one is 1.1mm gap and one is 0.8mm gap so they might be gapped to 0.8mm or they might be 1.1mm. with the symptoms he has described i still have my balls on 1.1mm gap as the source of the problem. If hte gaps are already 0.8mm then i take my balls off the plugs and putthem on coils as the problem either way, its not too serious of course it could be something different altogether - i can only suggest what i think based on my personal experiences... i'm not a mechanic cheers, Warren
  2. smell is subjective... what difference does a change in smell make? does it make the car go slower or the engine wear out?
  3. 98 RON comes in the form of: - optimax (shell) - BP ultimate - synergy8000 (mobil) - vortex98 (caltex) if you use 98RON do oyu need octane booster? technically, yes, as the stock ECU was programmed for 100RON petrol. But, i think about 15 years of evidence has shown that 98RON is pretty close to not cause any damage (providing the timing isn't rediculously advanced), and its a little more economically pleasing than adding a $15 bottle to every $50 tank of petrol - that's $15 per week * 52 weeks = $780 per year. if you have no problems with using 98RON for a year then the money you save from not adding octane booster equates to a second-hand rb20 I wouldn't risk any lower than 98RON though.. 91RON + 7000rpm + 14psi doesn't provide a nice result i would think...
  4. ping ping! in response to grigor... hmmmmmmm let's see: extra $5per tank of petrol vs. $600-800 second-hand engine + labour + inconvenience + possibility of new problems with that engine hmmmmmmmmm i might just go any put in what is was designed for myself of course, its your car so best of luck with it
  5. 2 stickers (they add 10kw each i hear), a SAU lanyard, and a newsletter!
  6. define "idle high" like 2000rpm? 3000rpm? or just above 1000prm?
  7. my balls are on spark plug gap too large try 0.8mm
  8. R33 comes in non-turbo and turbo: R33 GTS = 2.0L non-turbo R33 GTS25 = 2.5L non-turbo R33 GTS25T = 2.5L turbo R33 GTR = 2.6L twin turbo What fuel to use? mate.. did you miss this? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=83526 basucally... use fuel that has as close to 100RON octane rating as you can get (at the pump 98 RON is the best and is found as synergy8000, vortex98, optimax, and BPultiamte) Warren.
  9. i got 98-octane unleaded all the way from melb to bris... its cool to see 750kms out of a tank also!
  10. really is that all?? i got the impression that they increased octane rating by 1-2RON?
  11. does it seem odd to anyone to compare a brand-new 05 model car with the latest available technology and development to any car made in the 90's? even an R34 is 3-4 years older... its stupid even comparing stock cars with modified cars.. everyone is going to have their opinions, and this is mine Warren.
  12. SAU-Victoria is also CAMS-affiliated and only costs $50 to join...
  13. "normal" fuel = regular unleaded, which is 91 RON "premium" by definition refers to something that is above or better than the normal... Thus 95 RON or 98 RON or anything above 91 RON could be called "premium" as it is indeed better than the regular 91 RON The difference is that some companies have their premium at 95 RON and some at 98 RON. They're not lying saying 95 RON is premium as it is. But stick to the 98 RON premiums of vortex98, synergy8000, optimax, or ultimate Personally, i like ultimate but i think the differences between the big name 98 RON's are physhological rather than fact Warren.
  14. man, from that pic the rear bumper doesn't look standard to me...
  15. oh, and as for aftermarket parts... it will cost less to strengthen and upgrade the auto box than it would to upgrade a manual box do a search on "MV automatics", they are a shop in adelaide that makes shift kits and the like for the akyline auto and many on these forums have dealt with them before wtih great results...
  16. ok i'm going to get in here before all the manual guys jump in and say "do a manual conversion" DON'T DO A MANUAL CONVERSION! seriously... the auto ain't a bad thing. Its still a skyline, still makes good power, still drives well. some people will post up that "auto's are a piece of crap" and the like (oh yes, i've seen it before), but really go and take it for a drive and you will see otherwise... this auto vs. manual argument is just as bad as the jap vs. local debate, and makes us skyliners look as one-minded as commodore drivers
  17. have you checked out he FS section? some people sell their rb20 turbo for less than 150... as for your question... i would have thought the vg20 turbo was from the vg20et from the older 300zx? or was that the vg30? not sure...
  18. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...?act=Search&f=8 click on the above link. its the search function. search for the following terms: "auto" "ECU"
  19. the only advice i can offer is: don't makethe all-too-common mistake of thinking that modifications add much value to the car if the car is worth 8k stock and you have 4k worth of bodykit/wheels etc on it, its probably only worth about 1k MAX more than a stock version Warren.
  20. factory was 1290kg, but from what i have read its more like 1320kg
  21. my exhaust sits about the same level to my stock rear bumper and i am running about as rich as it gets with 10.5:1 AFRs on full load... and i have no problems with burning of the bumper do you have an aftermarket bumper? maybe its that?
  22. i drove when i moved from melb to brisbane as the cheapest was $900. it cost less in fuel and accommodation to drive, plus i got to stop at byron bay
  23. sorry haven't got any pics i just used existing holes, unbolted something, slid the horn attachment into there, and re-bolted. didn't affect anything. its pretty easy.. shouldn't be a prob if you are capable of mounting a FMIC that's for sure...
  24. you might get some info at www.aus300zx.com cheers
