  1. i think the amount of time it takes just to load the game will be longer than the half life of the xbox...
  2. i have no experience with them as far as turbochargers go, but i know that in other areas where they are used they perform well. they spin faster/more freely (which results in less heat generated), wear much better (last longer) and require less maintenance. they have been used in skateboards for a long time, and while they might not see speeds anywhere near close to those of a turbo, they do take a hell of a pounding when jumping over or off things. and i think they survive better if starved from oil. i could see the spool times of a ceramic bearing turbo being quicker than that of a standard ball bearing turbo due to the lower resistance of the bearing. and they are used by NASA, although they are a ceramic hybrid bearing.
  3. go the ps3. less chance of the system crashing half way through
  4. it could be the fuel pump, but it could also be the spark plugs or coil packs. do you have an aftermarket blow off valve on the car? if you do then that will more than likely be the cause, combined with weak spark plugs. it could also be the IAC/AAC. do a search on how to clean them.
  5. see this thread http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Re...lin-t69998.html also i wouldn't trust a rb20de box behind a turbo'd 25de. i reakon it won't last long before it packs up it's bat and ball and goes home.
  6. i couldn't find any birds (until you pointed it out), but i could see and angry face
  7. the gearbox may be the reason here. they are a stronger box and probably have more drag/resistance in them with that. gear ratios will be pretty close as it is usually just the diff ratios that vary between the turbo and non turbo, but if your car was originally auto i think they ran a taller diff which will slow your acceleration down. there are so many variables that could come into play here. his engine may be stronger than yours (yours might be tired and have lower compression), or his timing may be a bit more advanced than yours. your cat may be a bit blocked, or your knock sensors are more sensative than his and are retarding the timing a bit. his injectors may be a bit more clean than yours and giving a better spray pattern. his coils may be in better condition than yours and giving a better spark. the list is almost endless.
  8. wow, it has a massive 37 members........ somehow i think you'd find more bits and pieces on here
  9. ok post 2.0 (first one got lost after i hit the add reply button and the site crashed) it took me 3 mins to get into this thread last time, and took me 5 mins this time. the site keeps coming up with a notice saying that the connection was reset. it hasn't been getting really bad. i've had it happening all day at work and it's even worse tonight. it is completely random. i opened up a few windows today (about 6 i think) and only 1 of them loaded, the rest crashed, and then the one that did open crashed when i tried to submit a post. yesterday the site only had a few downtimes, but today i'd say i've had it crash 4 or 5 times an hour. sometimes (like at the moment) it will crash, then come good, then crash again within 20 seconds of coming good again. over the last few days it was just hanging and taking ages to load but today it has been coming up with the error i said before about the connection being reset. i did have 1 UPS error or whetever it's called pop up, and i've also had some pages load with a shortened web address at the top of the page in the title box thingy. so at the moment this page has "site hard to load? - skylines australia - mozilla firefox" but a few times it's had the web address in there. also sometimes tonight when it has crashed and i've hit refresh it's come up with a box asking me if i want to save a file or open it and asking what program to open it with. the file usually says the thread name and has the file type .info (i think). ok, lets try this again *crosses fingers and hits add reply after copying this reply incase i need to post it again
  10. just because you like them better doesn't mean everyone else will or has to, otherwise we wouldn't have so many different car brands out there. we'd have 1 car and 1 car only. i too would take a 370 over a r35. the r35 just doesn't do anything for me. i don't care how fast it is or how much wank factor it has, it just doesn't excite me enough to even want to hop into the drivers seat. i'd take any of the previous GTR models over the r35. if i was offered a r35 i would only take it to sell it and buy something that excites me more.
  11. i wouldn't get a sunroof for 2 simple reasons 1: i'm tall and the sunroof makes the roof lower and i find it cramped and my head nearly hits the roof 2: sunroofs leak. they might not now, but they all develop a leak over time.
  12. microsoft's mission statement: to have a product in every home and business, reguardless of whether it works or not. LOL
  13. no i read it. ecu has full control over lift and duration of cams. and currently on some cars the ecu has control over the butterfly in the throttle body. and if you have ever driven a car with an electronic throttle you will know that sometimes you put your foot down and it takes half a second or a second before the car reacts to this, and sometimes you can lift off and it is half a second or a second before the engine reacts. yes i know that the new valve technology can do away with the throttle body, but my point remains the same. they currently can't make a simple electronic throttle assembly that works without lag, so what makes you think they can make a much more hi tech valve adjustment assembly that doesn't also have lag in the system? and we all know that nothing electronic ever stuffs up.... i mean you never hear of problems with afm's causing a car to run like crap, or faulty o2 sensors causing poor fuel economy. or water temp sensors, or fuel gauge sensors or crank angle sensors. the list goes on of all the things that commonly start to play up on cars, however up until now they have only been controlling auxillaries which you can manage without (except the afm and CAS). if you happen to get a fault in an electronic cam system you may end up with it getting out of sync (maybe from a faulty CAS), and you could end up with the valves making friends with the pistons. sure that can already happen if the timing belt/chain breaks or jumps a tooth, but that happens much less than electrical problems.
  14. if putting any form of dragstrip/track near residential areas (even in industrial since the noise carries so much - where i used to live i could sometimes hear (depending on which way the wind was blowing) racing at the speedway which was about 10-15km away) you would probably need to restrict it to street legal cars as a full blown drag car is going to be way too noisey and the complaints would start rolling in straight away. so you'd need to have cars have a full exhaust, or at least be under a certain level.
  15. sounds like something else to stuff up and cost a buttload to fix. and i wonder how much lag they will have, since as it is the electronic throttles have some lag issues with lag, both when you put your foot down and when you lift off.
  16. yes but the loss of points gets backdated to when the incident occured.
  17. points are taken off your licence from when you recieve the fine.
  18. i have a few cars to add. i am adding them because of their technical feats, not from a styling point of view. - oldsmobile cutlass and chevrolet covair: the 2 first production road cars to have a turbocharger fitted (turbos were used on race cars and trucks before this) - some of the early 1920's cars such as the mercedes which were the first production road cars with superchargers (again, superchargers were used on race cars before this) - 1932 ford model 18: the first v8 production car
  19. for me the nearest drag strip is a 3 hour drive, nearest race track is the same, but drifting track only about 2 hours (archerfield). so for me that's a min 4 hour round trip to attend an event. 6 hours if i want to drag race. when i did go to the drags i got in i think 5 runs. so that's 6 hours driving for 75 seconds of racing. we have a skidpan in town but motorkhanas, etc are only held every 2 months or so. so yes, accessability is a major issue for me.
  20. i'm thinking i might cash in my credit card points and get me few hundred dollars worth of harvey norman vouchers and go get a ps3 and ff13 in the next few weeks
  21. what boost are you running? if the car is boosting up then it feels like someone has just turned the key off then you are hitting the inbuilt protection in the ecu. this happens at anything about about 12 or 13psi (differs slightly between individual cars). as for the backfire, is it a proper backfire or is it a misfire? if it is a misfire (lots of small little backfires) then it will be either your coils arcing out, or you spark plugs need gapping down (because your coils are failing, or the plugs are old and worn). there is the possibilty of both being caused by a leak in the cooler piping though, as when the pressure builds up it can force open a tiny gap which makes the car run more rich and this will make the car run poorly.
  22. that depends on whether he has the boost set at 10psi, or whether he is using the stock actuaotr setup and it is simply creeping up to 10psi. if he is using the stock setup then that is fine. if he is using a boost controller to set it to 10psi then there is something wrong
  23. if you want to put new plugs in to see if that is the issue don't waste money on platinums. in fact even if you just want to replace them, don't waste money on platinums. you can get a full set of copper plugs from autobarn or repco, etc for about the same price as 1 platinum (or iridium) plug. the NGK part number is BCPR6ES. however i would more than likely say that you coilpacks are shot.
  24. yeah i have to agree. looks wise this was way more ahead of it's time than the r32. it is a much more modern looking car. if you sit the 2 side by side and actually look at the styling, you can tell that the r32 was a product of the late 80's and the 300zx looks like early 90's. it looks more like it should be compared with an r33 as far as age goes. also someone said earlier that the r32 was ahead of things like the commodores and falcons as far as shape goes because holden had the vl and ford the xf, but you have to remember that in 1988 ford brought out the EA falcon and holden brought out the vn, both drastically different from the previous model (much more modern looking) and i disagree with the r34gtr being ahead of it's time. looks wise it isn't a massive change from anything previous. if anything it is just a cross between the 2 previous models. and as i said earlier, the technology is 3rd generation by the r34, so nothing new there
