M35 Wins Re Customs Dyno Day Shootout

Sif not share the full results how much atw? -
yeah, its a common misconception unfortunately. The atessa system in the stagea is based on a R33 GT4, and it was the R32 that you could just "pull the fuse" on. As any 33-34 GT4/GTR owner will tell you (and a few stagea owners as well, come to think of it) its not that simple IMO a RWD stag with a 26 or 30 in it is a much more a "skyline wagon" anyway, and staying RWD opens up a lot more possibilities for performance etc. Sure you lose the surefootedness of a AWD, but you gain a fair bit in stuff like parts availability and interchangability, weight (and ergo, fuel consumption) and with the wider strut towers in the engine bay, the ability to do what most people here have dreamed of at least once - and drop a V8 into it
-
um, no you cant, unless you have an endless supply of transfer cases, attessa pressure plungers and clutch packs... Putting an AWD into RWD mode involves pulling the front shaft at the least, and that means losing a minimum of 5% of your torque You would be a lot better off deciding first up which way you want to go now, for all the reasons listed above and many more besides. Dont fool yourself into thinking a RWD can be converted to AWD because while it may be physically possible, the work (and cost) involved would far outweigh any benefits. If you want AWD, then start with an AWD platform. If you start with a RWD platform, then be happy with what you have.

coil pack harness getting old and brittle mebbe? Probably just a simple earth leak, and when you changed out the plugs a second time you made it worse. I would throw a multimeter across the whole harness and check the resistance before anything else.

Close, but no cigar. You have to think in terms of an NA vehicle, when you are this close to the cylinder. Air speed is king at this point, so a longer inlet tract allows the inllet charge to speed up at lower revs, allowing better cylinder filling, which allows much cleaner combustion, and ergo, more torque generated at low revs. The offset of this, is as revs increase (and by default, airspeed) the advantage of a longer inlet tract becomes less of an advantage due to the pressure differential caused by the bottlenecks in the short turn radius, valve stem guides and even the valve throat itself. There is a certain RPM threshold for any motor when then length of the inlet tract and the extra air speed it generates become a liability. This is why manufacturers have played with variable length inlet tracts for years now (first one I know of is the EL-EF "snail shell" inlet manifold) -*warning - physics alert* because according to Charles Law, with excessive air speed, the added pressure generated at this point will lead to an increase in the temperature of the inlet charge. Its for this reason that a phenolic spacer would make the most sense, by not retaining any of this extra heat being generated, although carby spacers were traditionally made from this material more for their ability to isolate the carb from vibration (which allows for much better fuel atomisation), as well as increasing inlet tract length, As for the increased volume of the plenum, this would be a neglible percentage, and if it did affect the level of RPM that boost was acheived, it would be so tiny as to be uncalculable (we are talking microseconds here) Keep in mind that the boost limit is set by the efficiency of the turbo and its ability to provide a given level of boost at a given RPM. Its only when you put something with the volume of, say, a FMIC within the inlet tract would you notice any difference.

Not Entirely Sure If It's Thread Worthy...
Stinky Rooster replied to M I K E's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Dun bother, its just a couple of pics of the other front end conversion to the oooooold skyline. Almost as crap as the one in the OP As for the 32 front end, while not as sexeh as a 34 front end conversion, I think with a little more care and attention to the conversion, and some properly made guards I think it would look pretty good. better than an M35 anyway *flamesuit on* -

Forced Induction V8s To Be Banned Soon
Stinky Rooster replied to bitsa's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Although my personal favourite "monster" engine is actually a 4cyl... Built for the 1912 Benz 82/200 it had a displacemnt of 21.5 litres!!! That is 5.375 litres PER CYLINDER!!! -

Same bloke just wow'ed 'em at summernats with his latest creation based on the same sized engine, but this one is from a tank (the chev had a P51 Mustang aeroplane engine in it, and when you consider that aeroplane engines run in the opposite direction to every other internal combustion engine, it makes the engineering of that thing all the more impressive IMO) BTW - 1650ci? thats 27 litres in the new speak kiddies -
Selling My Stagea In Aussie
Stinky Rooster replied to pure_methamphetamachine's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Not with thise mods man - it would still have to go through compliance and that means all but taking it back to stock for registration purposes. The only way it could happen is if you sold it to an aussie over there, he owned it for 12 months and then brought it in as a personal import. I "think" it may bypass the compliance proceedure, but dont quote me on it. Plus the arse has completely fallen out of the prices here. Just ask anyone trying to sell one thats already here. -
Even when I bought mine though (4 years ago) and a good S1 RS4 would set you back $16-18K they were still excellent value, and there was nothing else even close to comparing to them for performance, level of luxury etc etc Just keep in mind that they dont make them anymore, and ergo are becoming a LOT less desirable at auction in Japan, hence the much lower prices. Also, with a lot more people doing compliance on them now its much easier to import than it once was. When I got mine there was only 1 place in all of WA that would comply them, and as the company also sold them out of their own yard, turnkey, it was cheaper for private importers to bring them in, send them 4000km's away to get complied. I know a few people that got turned off the very idea of owning an import for that reason alone.

Best Rpms For An Rb30 Engine In A Small Bus
Stinky Rooster replied to busboy's topic in General Automotive Discussion
/\ +1 for the falcon motor. HEAPS more torque, and you could slap in a single rail borg warner box behind it, or even a C6 auto out of the F100 - F150. If you can find a good alloy headed EFI 250 X flow I would go for that over the later 3.9 / 4lt, although the EF onwards 4tl with the variable length snail shell intake from the EL would be a great goer with a baby towing cam. You could set it up to pull around 2000rpm @ 110km and not worry about clagging up the heads with the high torque loading, and probably use less fuel doing it - eleventy billion taxi drivers cant be wrong -

S2 C34 Stagea That's Hard To Start
Stinky Rooster replied to Whooby's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Woah back up a bit. What do you mean when you say timing is 0 deg at idle? Are you looking at static timing or advance? Because at static timing (idle) you should have about 12-15 deg, and then advance should be pulling about 10-12 deg in after that. If it was an old distributor engine you could set the timing up (via the balancer marks) and then ratchet the dizzy about with a multimeter attached to the coil until you can pick up the primary field collapsing. Its not perfect, but it is usually enough to get it idling and you can put the timing light on it. Now, any consult guru's out there know how we can try the same thing on an Neo RB? Another thing that will complicate this is the Neo's "constant" variable valve timing. You will need to make sure any timing adjustment is done with the VVT module disconnected. (When doing the timing on an S1 you can just keep it under 4500rpm, and as full advance is gained by about 3000rpm usually its not an issue) Also, the marks on the belt are for cam timing, not ignition timing. While cam timing (when variable) has an effect on ignition timing, its not the same thing. -
A Barn Ful Of Classic Ferrari
Stinky Rooster replied to Kujotk's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Um, this happened almost 17 years ago....... The guy who owned them was a "recluisive" (read wierdo) millionaire property developer named Walter Medlin, more famous for the fact that he lost everything to the IRS, and his vehicle collection was valued by them to be in excess of 20 million US! Obviously that "barn" was for the lower end of his collection, because he also had a 1967 330 P4 V12 racer that was 1 of only 4 ever built. A car that I personally, believe to be quite possibly the most beatiful car ever created. Its also the car that the GT40 whupped at Le mans. -
