R35 Gtr
Beer Baron replied to JesseJames's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
yeah no way would I risk trying to buy say a 2008 R35 at auction with say 2,000kms and then wind it back to 80km and try and bring it in (that is assuming it is easy to clock them, i don't know if it is). they would be all over you like a rash wondering how you managed to buy a march 2008 model with 80kms at this point in July 2009? plus they want to see the original invoice from nissan proving it was bought new, and once on the docks here they may well choose to go over it with a fine toothed comb. like I said the one car of mine that they singled out was a waste for them as it was race use only and thus not subject to the rule (dumbies!) but if it had been they may well have tried it on even though it was brand spankers anyway. they crawled all over it for day taking photos etc and I was not allowed to be there. luckily I have a good customs agent who has been acting on my behalf for years and he insisted that one of his staff be allowed to be present to see exactly what they were doing with my property. -
Quick Castor Rod Question
Beer Baron replied to gucio's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
good man. and good memory. I had a set of the cuscos too and couldn't remember but now that you mention it I do remeber thinking how clever of them. the little "cones" that fit into the rod end are different sized to offset the position of it in the bracket at the front. thus negating the need for the bend. BUT the china ones I had tried once (for about 2 weeks!) did make bent ones for GTR and straight ones for GTST. -
Quick Castor Rod Question
Beer Baron replied to gucio's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yes the GTR castors rods should have a bend in them. most likely you've got 32 GTST ones instead. perhaps some aftermarket makers don't make actual 32 GTR ones, but the aftermarket ones I've bought had the bend. (except for the ikeya ones which come with their LCAs as they are completely different design). -
word. seen it happy many a time. fuses fine, PFC toast. Power FCs are much more sensitive than standard ecu often with a weak ground or weak power supply stock ecu works fine, power fc doesn't. and same goes if you get a short circuit. often standard ecu fine, power FC not so fine. i have nfi why, but that's the way it is.

Gtr Factory Exhaust Manifold, Turbo Side Porting

what a bummer. i have noticed over the years buying the tomei manis and dumps that some were a little better than others. I guess welders sometimes have a bad day... even at tomei! and you're right, ones like yours that had poor penetration in that area should have been binned. but in japan they probably deduct the material cost from your pay packet or make you commit ritual suicide if you fk one up, so the bloke welding yours either has a bad sake habit and needed the dough, or does not like the idea of committing seppuku on the workshop floor. -
the nurburgring is in some ways a bit unique though. for one thing the surface there is very bad which may contribute. and it has some unique types of corner too.

hell yeah! I'm using one of the guns I got with house of the dead overkill bang bang box, i have to hold it a bit weird when driving but apart from that it's cool. you aim/look with the gun/wiimote and move etc with the nunchuck. graphics nothing really different over PS2 but it's such a fun game. if you haven't had it on PS2 before then definitely get it for your wii. even if you have had it before get it anyway. the soundtrack = awesome. the level of swearing is up to the standard set by the movie too. "Die Hasa!" "fk you mang" etc. gameplay is no where near GTAIV neither are the graphics but if you're a scarface fan and who isnt? then you'll love it. oh, can't find it in stores any more but there's a few on ebay. I'm impatient and had a bidding war and got mine for $35 but the next one I had on my watchlist as backup went for $15. with that in mind you should be able to get it for $20 + post I reckon.

thank god someone spells it out. I can't believe everyone does do this. trying to figure out your fuel consuption on a tank, half a tank, a tenth of a tank or whatever is like trying to circumcise yourself blindfolded. yes you'll get a result but it wont be very good or very accurate. particularly as the gauge will often stay on or near full for about half a tank, then drops suddenly thereafter. it's completely useless. all you need to do is: fill tank reset trip meter drive car fill tank. look at how many litres went back in to fill tank look at how many kms you travelled. say you travelled 310kms and put in 40 litres to re-fill tank. (40/310)X100 gives you litres per hundred kms (in this case 12.9L/100km). or you can do 310/40 to give kms per litre (in this case 7.75km per litre) if you are so inclined. either way they are actual measurements and you can compare them and understand what is going on.

i'm currently playing scarface again. had it ages ago on PS2 and loved it. it didn't play too well on my PS3 though, so I just finally got a copy for my wii. it's quite fun on wii and a few small differences. great game. so sad they never did a high def version for PS3. that would have been kick ass.

looks great how is it to use? now make me one!!!
-
well I'm crap at the circuit but just did a dohnut of over 5.5million points! got tired and had to pull out of it... lol.
-
very well put. I think that sums it up quite nicely.
-
i have a sinking feeling it may be. although I don't think the PFC boots up on ACC only when the key is turned to ON. I recently farked mine and the HC lights up but the screen doesn't come on and engine won't fire... d'oh!

yeah that's a big possibility. I've cracked a few headers this way. particular on the alfa which has a side pipe which of course sits quite low. it gets nailed and transfers that up to the mega $ headers and we end up with crack. :) -
Oil Control In Rb's For Circuit Drag Or Drift
Beer Baron replied to Sydneykid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
like gary said I don't think there is a PCV there. look at where the fitting is. it goes to the brake booster and has nothing to do with the catch tank system. there is no need to recirculate the breathers back into the inlet on a track car. all that does is feed that dirty air back into your system. it's simple. you just need a good tank to seperate the vapour from the oil, a tank to catch that oil and a filtered opening to allow that air to escape and under vacuum to filter the air coming back in. as for the sump breather that's a good idea too. -

yep, I am sure it's the head. I have heard this exact story too many times now. one guy I know even had it happen with a brand new head, he was understandably pissed. it can be hard to find or spot the crack and is often missed in a pressure test. the sad thing is sometimes people have not found it only to have fkups again and again. the head needs to be hot tested. when it's cold the crack is closed and can hold a reasonable amount of pressure. as the head heats up crack opens up and leaks. it doesn't have to be very much to spoil the party.

Dazmo's R33gtr Build
Beer Baron replied to dazmo's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
sweet! best of luck for a trouble free first day mate. yeah my opinion of the HKS vs generic turbos is about the same as you. as we both know the money especially in the GTR turbos is that the HKS ones put that money into the turbine housings which has a big bearing on how the turbos will behave on the car. I currently have the HKS GT-SS for my car and was thinking that with some decent boost (25psi or so) and with the level of headwork etc that it should make the 350awkw or so that I want, but like you it's not so much the number, mainly I want it to be responsive but not sacrifice any top end (or too much). for my mind on the 2.8 RBs the 2530s are without question the perfect choice. for a 26 that isn't revving to the moon (no dry sump) then it's a bit more tricky to chose between HKS 2530s or GT-SS. hmmmm. I might go the 2530s, I went the GT-SS on the last motor (granted it was not as advanced as this one and had stock diffs. now have GTS4 diffs) and a change might be good. anyway, enough babble. I hope it's a good day tomorrow. -
good stuff. I expected that like most cars on good rubber it would benefit a fair bit from some decent camber. you're right the factory 'track' setting was pussy and almost impossible to tell arpart from the stock setting the changes were that small. have you experimented with some toe? a little toe out on the front should liven it up a bit.
-
should be good. it's nothing new though (well it is for the 35 I guess). that is how you achieve alignment changes on most cars when retaining the factory arms - offset bushes.
-
that would be about right for one axle set. ie both front calipers (4 pads total). they never sell just 1 calipers worth and PMU sometimes offer full sets too (ie all pads front and rear, but $600 would be a bargain for a 35).
-
also, one other thing. try it in R/R/off. I prefer'd it like that. not sure if it's faster or not but a little bit of tail out (little bit!) doesn't always hurt.

I have to say, I'm car enthusiast first, nissan enthusiast second. I love my nissans and have liked everyone single one I've owned, from a POS R31 5 speed 4 door that I bought for about 500bux, right through to the first 32 GTR I bought (and loved and still own) through 33GTRs, 34GTRs and even yes 35 GTR. I've also enjoyed my JDM 06 liberty GT (2l twin turbo), I love DC2 integra type Rs, and I'm about to import a 2004 JDM Honda Civic Type R for my gf and I as a daily. I love my RX7 and my silvia too. and I love my holdens and fords as well. hell I even love some euro junk. E30 M3 is up there with my favourite cars, love the old 840 BMWs, love old alfa. I just love cars. sure I have a particular soft spot for nissan product and R32 GTR skylines in particular but that doesn't stop me enjoying just about every car i've ever stepped into. I cannot stand people who seem to think that the particular car they own is the best car ever made and even worse is the ONLY car worth owning. that's not true. I say own and drive as many cars as you can, cause there's lots more good ones than bad ones out there.
-
congrats on the purchase. yeah john munro is right. getting a JDM R35 is worth it just to have a nice japanese female voice say good morning and goodnight each day and tell you what day of the week and what date it is! lol. I wouldn't worry about the gearbox too much. the second R35 I bought in to aus went to giant on this forum and has seen more trackdays and rallys in this last year and a bit than most would see in a lifetime and it's held up fine. having said that the dealer that I stored the car at in japan before shipping did perform a 'gearbox system update' before it left which I understand is just a clutch map update or similar. and yes, once it's run in have a go at launch mode. it's awesome. so much fun it should be illegal! I have driven some very special cars lately (ford GT40 supercar, the new one, porche 911, latest m3, lambo gallardo etc) and can tell you none accelerate quite like the R35. some claim to have more power and less weight but somehow the GTR seems faster. it has plenty of power any time you need it. and you'll get used to the paddles and flipping down through each gear as you pull up from 5th or 6th for a second gear corner. you are not missing too much with the bose system either. to my (basic) ear it was not amazing. and the basic system is not too bad. about on par for cars in it's bracket. I see you have the basic silver wheels. I've hated them on just about every colour, but on the white they actually look quite nice. and dunlops are a good tyre, though on road the bridgestones did seem a little quieter and little less prone to tramline to me (i've had both). as for the warranty the chances are if anything went badly wrong nissan would find a way to get out of it using some clause of abuse or misuse or your part or try and come to a 'compromise' with you to pay half knowing that if you ever chose to fight them in court you'd be up against a big legal team (Minter Ellison for nissan, look them up, and don't ask how I know that!!! lol). The Cobb AP is a good little gadget and if you are not planning on taking mods any further than a chip and exhaust then it's probably the best option. get the cobb AP and a midpipe of some kind. if you are planning to get a little more serious in future then definitely consider the haltech platinum. it's a nice piece of gear and has many, many features that will be useful when winding up the wick. Anyway, enjoy the car. they truly are an amazingly capable car for the money and are a great drive on the road and on the track.

you got it sussed yet John? if not send me an email and I might be able to talk you through it.
