  1. well I got back on the horse today. out at oran park. A little tentative at first as the turn 10 EC excursion was my biggest off so far by a long way. I suddenly found myself noticing where all the walls are! got over it after about 3 laps. had some fun. got the exhaust fixed yesterday and took the car to heasmans to make sure it's all still straight and that the alingment was ok (which it was on both counts thankfully). next week will have it all fixed up as looking at it damaged is just a reminder. Thanks for the encouragement greg and the excuse for me. haha I hadn't thought of oil, but it certainly was a savage loose. looking at the tape I think you could be right as I was a little bit off line and as I turned in car just snapped backwards. I had time to get about half a turn of opposite lock on, but it didn't do anything. After it happend I thought I must have just been slow to correct, but looking at the in car tape I was on the wheel pretty rapidly but just to no effect. I do remember a torana was putting oil down around 9/10/11 and 12. hey it works for me! How is your car? Darron was saying just the lightest touch? It was a good thing I was out at Oran today. Glen Seton was there testing a sports sedan and as some of you guys know the seat in my car is out of Glen Setons old FPR V8 Supercar. I told him about it, and he signed it for me! Nice guy.
  2. well i'm still in. but bring your ear muffs people as I have a new ghetto 'exhaust'...
  3. yeah top day. paul was down to 1.22 or there abouts and I was a second or two off that. I used the video camera for my times, will have to check it out later. yeah it was nice to rub shoulders with glen seton and he even signed my seat. happy days.
  4. well here's the update. removed bent bit of exhaust and replace with pipe for the meantime. went to heasmans to check that car was straight and alingment was good. thankfully everything was fine. washed car to try and remove the kilos of dust all over it. heading to oran park tomorrow to get back on the horse. and for those keeping up with the lingo. blown engine = B-man'd, or D-man'd drag explosion = Ben-man'd circuit wall love = brisbied or possibly just "doing a fatz" who is renowned for being attracted to concrete. OZGTR and I are going to go out for a little play tomorrow. GTR jason is coming out too so it should be a ripper. john will be polishing his helmet though so we'll have to carry on without a zed.
  5. well i have noticed the cheap chinese oil coolers seem to have very, very small passages through them which could certainly cause high pressure. anyway, forget the cold pressure. what is important is the pressure at operating temp (ie 80+). 5 kg/mm at 3000rpm is actually not that high oil pressure. i'd say it's about right, or even a touch low. BUT the issue here is what was the oil pressure like before the cooler? if it was lower then obviously the cooler is a restriction.
  6. sadly times were nothing special. Had only done about 12 laps, and only about 2 clear ones (lots of slow traffic). still good enough for 11th. It was annoying as I had just got the pressure stable-ish and was getting quicker every lap. I also have what I think is a badly slipping transfer case. out of corners the revs are flaring. sounds like either clutch slip or wheelspin, but it doesn't have the symtoms of clutch slip (I can't make it happen in a straight line at all) and the attitude of the car doesn't change (so not wheel spin, unless it's very slight). so I'm going to have to have a good look at that. probably would have been quicker in rwd!
  7. ahh, you know just what to say yeah, EC can bite you hard. my friend did $80K damage to his porsche there at turn one. another friend pretty much wrote off his car there too and most track days I see one or two bad smashes. some of the walls are quite close to the track. inside wall at turn 1, and outside wall at 10/11/12 are all very close, in fact outside wall at 6/7 is pretty nasty too. hell they all are. and all concrete. well I will try and drag myself out to Oran park GP this wednesday so if anyone wants to come out there is a reasonable probability of me making a fool of myself. entry is free, but must pay for drinks afterwards if I bin it again.
  8. no injuries. just felt like more of a wanker than usual.
  9. yeah, it was a nice effort. turn 10 is 4th gear, flat. It was a combination of things. rear end is not well set-up (too much swaybar and too much spring, so very stiff and very taily) basically I was pushing hard as I finally had the tyre pressures semi sorted and was catching another car at a few second a lap. it was last lap of the session, and by far my best so far so I was just pushing. I went out wider than I normaly do and turned in a little too agressively and the rear end came around far quicker than I could catch it. so the contributing factors were lack of rear end grip (poor rear end set-up on my part, and rear tyres not working) pushing too hard lack of talent act of god choose 2 out of 4.
  10. Thanks for posting that. it really brightened the day a bit. There is a good shot there of my coming into the hairpin with cars everywhere. I passed 5 cars on that lap! noice.
  11. lol, don't tell troy you said that! it didn't really shake me up too much. It was pretty scary though I guess as it was a pretty loooong slide. I lost it around I guess 140-160 and it was a very sudden spin. I then spent what seemed like forever just sliding backwards across the dirt and not really slowing down as fast as I'd like. lol. then i met the wall. the first part was over in a split second (from turn in to backwards) the slide seemed to last forever and gave me a good chance to sense the impending wall. after the love tap I just fired er 'up and drove onwards, completed half a lap and went into the pits.
  12. i was going to try the all show no go line, but for that to work your car would have to be good looking... but I guess at least if you come out I wont be the slowest guy on the track. like I always say, if you can't be the part, look the part. and I certainly look the part...
  13. so johnny, are you going to take off your slippers and come out? If I can drag my battle scared GTR out, surely you can wheel out the love boat for a play? I was talking to Jason this morning and he reckons you are a bit scared of his GTR, but you should come out anyway just so he can show you the lines etc.
  14. just don't make 3 posts one after the other? if you think of something extra to say, just edit your last post
  15. well both of the 15yo cars I imported had compliance plates fitted when I had them complied so it is definately possible for a 15yo car to have a compliance plate. but I do understand lots of 15yo cars were complied and rego'd without having a compliance plate. I would say it will be hard to get one for it now considering it's already been complied.
  16. Hi guys, I need a 32 GTR rear bumper bar. colour and finish doesn't matter but the bar itself has to be in excellent condition (ie, no past repairs, nothing cut or dented. has to be in sydney too. please pm me if you can help out.
  17. any photos you've got please put em up or send to me. it will help me remember the good times! lol.
  18. lol, I think they have a photo of fatz in the control tower with a "ARDC's most wanted" at the top due to previous incidents dating back a few years... dunno what their problem is. the grass grows back afterall...
  19. basically poor set-up rear end (was trying new set-up, but 8kg springs + 28mm sway bar = no rear end grip). poor driver snap oversteer concrete wall
  20. lol, only in that we are both sydney boys and both have far more mouth than talent. I am far better looking than troy though. yeah, it is not too bad. pride is dented about as much as the car. BUT I will do my best to get it semi-sorted for this wednesday. nothing like getting back on the horse that tried to kill me... the plan is: remove the kinked part of the exhaust (just the rear bit) replace it with a straight piece of pipe so at least it's exiting in the right spot try and wash off some dust (it's fcking everywhere) get alingment checked bleed brakes then back out there to show it who's really boss.
  21. pm prank and blitz to enquire about advertising, and trading on the forum. they can help out. all the gear looks good
  22. looks like a top event. sorry I had to quietly opt out and didn't make it down. Instead I stayed in nsw, got work done on friday, then brisbied my car at eastern creek on sunday looks like I would have been better off at deca.
  23. YES!!!! it really sucks having to drive behind a 4WD as you cannot see past them at all these days. and like you mentioned at night with their high headlights they blind the fck out of you. all the taxi driver rants are true too. most taxi drivers I've been with are shocking drivers. they brake all the time at weird moment, then violently accelerate, then have to brake again. they seem to have no forward planning and no judgement either they seem to have no idea about distances etc. really weird. I would think driving all day every day would make you a better driver...
  24. yep, you will get a printout.
  25. yeah, they never showed the whole replay of that wheel nut effort, but I seem to remember the wheel nut man put wheel nut on, raised his hand. look at it. realised nut wasn't on, put hand down and started doing it up, but at this point the car had already been released. i don't think it was the controllers fault, i reckon wheel nut man was at fault. BUT by far the worst part was that he stopped, the toyota mech picks up the nut and is waving it at them, and they all just stood there doing nothing and let him continue on his way.
