Can you and your mechanic do a comp test?
> if required, check if your belt has slipped a tooth on the cam gear?
> if so, what belt brand is it?
n11smo has had his VS2 at a painter 2 weeks ago

Offender was the poncam on inlet? Or the belt (gates)? Or the painter starting the car who may have revved it whilst moving it? Don't know.
