The Great R33 Intercooler Dilemma
V28VX37 replied to Pr0x1mity's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Trust turn flow should flow 300rwkw on E85: -
^^^ This. I've now sandblasted/sanded/prepped/primered/painted/waited/clearcoated two sets of R34 GTT stockies and thought exactly the same after each time. It takes pretty much two full days DIY and you need couple of cans of primer, 3-4 of paint and one or two of clear coat, it all adds up. Painting is one of my least favourite things to do, so much prep and it takes so little to stuff it all up at the end. Anyway cool thread mate, keep it up!

Cheers guys. Toyo Australia seems to promote the electronic scrubbing service so I doubt it's complete voodoo: http://toyotires.com.au/toyo-blog/497-using-semi-slicks-part-1-scrubbing-in Tire Rack offer a mechanical (non heated) version of the service: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=66 With regards to temps, from this Toyo UK page - http://www.toyo.co.uk/page/index/identifier/set-up-advice : So I'm guessing an electronic or mechanical scrubbing service would slowly bring it up to that range? Here's the scuffing procedure from the Hankook Handbook - http://www.competitiontyres.net.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Hankook-Handbook.pdf : And here's the same from Hoosier - http://www.hoosierdirect.com/Tire_Heat_Cycle.html : Anyway the TL;DR is: Most tyre manufacturers seem to recommend scrubbing in a new set of competition tyres This consists of slowly (not suddenly) heating the tyres up to track temps, and then letting them cool down for 24h+ In practice most people probably don't bother All I'm saying is that if there's a sufficiently easy way to scrub em in and that gives me a little bit of extra performance and/or longevity, I'm happy to do it

^^^ What he said. In fact, if you still have the stock fronts, might be an idea to chuck them on for a bit to confirm that it's definitely a brake bias issue and not something else? -
Great thread Dan! Have you been down to Sandown as yet?

Cheers Harry. I've been reading up stacks of break-in/scrubbing instructions and unfortunately doing it properly on the track is not really an option for me, as most of them recommend 24-48 hours of cooling and sitting afterwards to cure. Here's what I read on another forum: http://honda-tech.com/acura-integra-type-r-8/toyo-r888-break-heat-cycling-scrubbing-etc-2330967/ Obviously running on the street won't bring the tyres up to track operating temps but I wonder if that or the rest time is more important? Alternatively, I wonder if there's anyone who offers an electronic scrubbing service in Melbourne?

Well turns out that R888 was out of stock in my size so I ended up getting the new R888R after all. The tread pattern is really curious, see below - there are no arrows on the sidewalls just the marking 'outside', so these will roll in different directions on opposing sides. What's the recommended run in/scrub in procedure for semis? Based on some sources you could just run them on the freeway for 20 minutes and then let them sit for a couple of days?

Got some tyres so all sorted, thanks

I like the Genesis, seen a few on the road, they've got a nice presence. The Aston-esque badging is a little much though.

Thanks Dan, does he do any other sizes? A mate of mine has an Evo and is looking to upgrade his NT01's at some stage, I think they're 18's. Cheers Harry, great to know! I found some info here about the UK release: http://www.toyo.co.uk/page/index/identifier/1 Yes the compound designation is the same 'GG' ('SG' also available) but I wouldn't be surprised if it's all new. The tread pattern is completely different to the R888. One article said that the R will supersede the normal R888 over the course of 2015, and the Aus site lists R888 as 'while stocks last'. I priced these with my tyre shop today and they are available, the R888R is around $50 more per corner over the R888. R888 datasheet: http://toyotires.com.au/images/tyres/factsheet/pdf/proxesr888.pdf R888R datasheet: http://toyotires.com.au/images/tyres/factsheet/pdf/ProxesR888R.pdf What's curious is that the R888 is load rated 94W in 235/45ZR17 but the R888R is only 91W. It's also a couple of mm narrower. I've decided to stick with the R888, should be good enough for a first set of semis

I've had both, Intima is ok for normal street but I melted mine on a mountain run. Remsa much better stopping and ok on the track but very dusty. I also have white wheels, for a day at least. There's not a lot of choice for high temp budget pads unfortunately. -
Cross posting from the tyre thread since the semis are relevant here too. http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/72923-tyres-you-used-and-how-u-would-rate-them/page-74 Called around a lot yesterday, here's some fresh Melbourne prices (hopefully I scribbled them down right) using the 225/45R17 size as a reference: Semis: Dunlop DZ03G $640 Hankook Z221 (C50) $463 Yokohama Advan A050 $462 Bridgestone Potenza RE11S $450 Toyo Proxes R888 (GG) $325 Nitto NT01 $285 Hybrids: Dunlop Direzza ZII $290 Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R $276 Hankook R-S3 Z222 $220 I ended up going with the Toyos, will post impressions after I've run them for a bit.

Cheers good to know about Winton. Harry LapTimer's recommends Dual XGPS 160 (Sky Pro) as an external GPS sensor/booster: http://www.gps-laptimer.de/compatibility/ios-not sure if that would work with Track Addict. Track writeoff sounds scary, hope you're ok! -

Yep sounds like a match, good to know! From what I've read they're supposed to sit somewhere between QFM HPX and A1RM. I wanted something street friendly that is still ok on the track, without chewing up the rotors. Also A1RM's apparently can be squealy, the Remsas are quiet, just really dusty. Thanks guys that's great! I've used Harry's LapTimer at Sandown and it seems to work very well for the price. -

Ok so I got all excited about the Z221's but when I went to buy them turns out I had been quoted Z222 prices ($220) by mistake, grr. Oh well it did sound too good to be true. The Z221 is a touch too pricey for my budget at around $450 per tyre in 225/45R17. I got a quote for Toyo R888, just over $300 per tyre. Looking into this more, apparently Toyo also manufacture Nitto, this is from another forum: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/track-autocross/160490-toyo-r888-vs-nitto-nt01.html#post2249681 ^^^ Does that sound correct? If so I'm now thinking NT01 as they can are about $250 per corner. Has anyone run both R888 and NT01, how similar are they? -
Mounting Sparco Sprint V On Stock Rails In R34 Sedan?
V28VX37 replied to V28VX37's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Well I can now run a four point harness without taking out the rear seat or adding any holes, yay! I ended up running the seat belt extender around the rear edge of the seat bottom (rather than through it), works well. See pics below. I've also got the standard Sparco harness eyelet bolt under there (7/16" UNF) so in case someone doesn't like the setup in scrutineering I can just hook directly onto that instead. The D shackle is a 1 tonne item from Bunnings. Just in case anyone else is looking for the eyelet bolts that go in the seat rails they are M10x1.25. Very hard to find, I spotted them via this NASIOC thread (thanks!): http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2696767 They're offered by Moto-Rage in Japan: http://www.moto-rage.co.jp/product/partslist/hanyo/other/index.php I tried contacting them directly but got no response, luckily Jesse Streeter sorted it all out for me, great service as always. http://jessestreeter.com/ I'd say the harness makes almost more of a difference than the seat, it's rad! Not a straightforward install but well worth the trouble. Very keen. With the pricing, what's it all up for a non-SAU/non-CAMS member? Also re timers, are phone apps allowed? -

Part numbers? My Remsas are 0348.02 and 0365.02, from GSL RallySport. They are rated 650 degrees C from memory so definitely not OEM/standard style pads, also much better than the Intima SS that I had prior. Very dusty though. -
