R34 Gtt Swaybar Advice
hardsteppa replied to mystery_kid's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Wait, you're not talking about the outer nut on the front linkage just turning around when you try to undo it, right? As in you need a 14mm spanner on the inner nut, to stop it turning. -

33 Gtst Seam Welding And Front Bracing
hardsteppa replied to Touge Kyousou's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
further to this, spent some time over the xmas break doing some more bracing on the front. The car is really nice and stiff now anyway from previous bracing done but mid-section of the car across the front seats feels the soft point now as far as chassis flex goes. So, pulled the seats out and did some spot-welding along the centre bracing that is in there from factory. Then made up a brace to run underneath the car to box in the transmission tunnel. The brace bolts through the floorpan on either side of the factory bracing bar; theory being this will complete it as effectively 'one piece' running across the car now rather than missing in the middle. Initial thoughts are it does feel a little flatter/solid early in the turn-in but really haven't had the chance to give it a good drive yet. While I wouldn't expect it to transform the car or anything, it should help, similar to a canoe using the same type of cross-brace along it's length to keep it rigid and box it over rather than having it open-sided. -
I can't believe you consider in any way a morally superior person; every post I read from you that replies to a person presenting a different opinion to yours in drug use, results in you insulting and belittling the poster. How dare you, you rude arrogant prick. By all means have your own views but keep the insults to yourself and learn some manners.

Tein Adjustment Knob
hardsteppa replied to Zman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Ok. I have tein superstreets on my other car and the adjustment knob is just a hex shaped rod with a green knob on the end. Its in storage and not that close but will check next time i'm there, i don't think it will tell you anything an allen key will do anyway though. -

hardsteppa replied to Zman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
iirc the adjustment knob is just an allen key/hex head key. So forgive me, i am unsure of your current status in ability to turn the alleged adjustment module on the coilovers in question - you can turn them now and would just like the knob to see how far it turns, or you can't turn them at all at the moment? -

Look either they click when you turn them, or they don't. If they don't then amount of clicks is irrelevant, innit. If they do click, then count how many from full softon to full hardon, then work back. -
Where Can I Rebuild Mine's Ohlins
hardsteppa replied to etang789's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Probably best to do it in your garage, might get messy in your loungeroom. -
just saw how Lemurs like to irritate millipedes to make them secret a toxic liquid....which the Lemurs then use to get thoroughly intoxicated..

Pulsing Exhaust Sound At Cruise Speed - Help!
hardsteppa replied to ausdrift's topic in General Maintenance
Weld plate over exhaust outlet, see if that fixes issue. -
That's the point though, you're only seeing one part, the worst, of the overall picture. So while yes, it can lead to some very bad situations for individuals, and control is needed, your view isn't a balanced one because it appears to be based on the worst case scenario and not the overall big picture.

The implications of all you idiots that drive an illegal industry that is responsible for most of the crime and human injustices in the world nope, that's religion. nope, that's you, and it's just a shame you can't see it. You're a bit on the angry side too bro.

Air Conditioner Making A Soft 'choo' Noise, Power Affected
hardsteppa replied to tridentt150v's topic in General Maintenance
sounds perfectly normal to me? Aircon compressor kicking in/shutting off causes power change, more noticeable depending how shite it is (used to be like putting on the handbrake in my old celica) and the system gives a little pssh as pressure activated/released. Also if you happen to be driving in the tropics and going 100k and the aircon is on and you start to see steam/smoke coming out thru the aircon vents it does not mean your car is on fire, just water vapour apparently from the change in humidity coming through the system too fast for it to disburse normally...or something similar, forget the exact reason....(but caused me some brief concern when driving back from Cairns, I tells you) -
well, the situation of the teenager who died in Adelaide on the weekend is an example of why there's no point continuing with the Govment approach of tackling the issue with 'drugs are bad, don't touch them'. Cos while young mate died, thousands of others had a fkn awesome time there on drugs, so the danger threat is not relatable until it is directly applying to them. The angle of 'don't be afraid to go to authorities if you or mates are in trouble, no criminal action will be taken against you' is a much better direction to take. Although, if I was a youngsta again i'd be sceptical of that offer myself and maybe wouldn't go to them even if in trouble.

R33, New Brake Upgrade Idea
hardsteppa replied to hardsteppa's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
i will also add, hey, if you don't think there's any need to upgrade stock braking performance then no worries, just don't do it. No need for any drama or argument. I've been happy with the results of upgrades (namely increasing rotor size) on various cars and so consider it worthwhile and recommended, these days as i get older i consider it even more important than chasing higher power figures, but each to their own. -
R33, New Brake Upgrade Idea
hardsteppa replied to hardsteppa's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
you say you're getting it, but you're not. I'll try putting it a couple of other ways - ask anyone who's done one of the common brake upgrades for the R33 if they regret it, and want to go back to just having stock brakes. Also - swap 'brakes' for 'power increase'. If I push the car to the limit of it's power in stock form it is reasonably capable, but I don't want to be driving around pushing it to its' limit. I'd rather enhance its' power capabilities and get much more enjoyable driving performance at moderate acceleration, and know that its' overall capability is increased, should it ever be needed. -

R33, New Brake Upgrade Idea
hardsteppa replied to hardsteppa's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yeah but Johnny, and there's no disrespect intended in this; if you've only used stock brakes with good pads you can't really say if it's worth having upgraded rotor sizes, as you haven't experienced the difference. On my other car I went from completely stock brakes to a big rotor/wildwood caliper setup and it completely changed the car. Brake kits have come down in price heaps since then, it was a long time ago, but even then, it was money well spent and much nicer to drive, and that was 100% street use. My r33 runs the GTR 324mm disc on the front and hfm disc upgrade on the back, and also a decent improvement IMO opinion. While stock brakes might be good when pushed to their limit, I don't want to be pushing them to the limit, i'd rather have better braking and control through a more efficient brake setup. -
New Member Needs Help

You wanna buy some stock springs? Step this way my friend. But i'm guessing then when you say it has stock suspension, it actually doesn't, if not stock springs? -
R33, New Brake Upgrade Idea
hardsteppa replied to hardsteppa's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Sure, but i'd also say, your car will also run just fine unmodified, but obviously thats not to say it's giving anywhere near the potential and performance it could. Upgrading braking performance is well worthwhile, even tho stock brakes are 'adequate/good'...like everything, they can be better, and create a more enjoyable drive. -
that does sound a little 'why' asking, for sure, that's a shiteload of coin to spend doing the opposite to what most ppl would. But, awesome place there mate, was there last year and would be great to spend some more time in. How big's your place lol, need a live-in mechanic for a while...?
