  1. Depends on the build really. 10w60 maybe OK for some.
  2. Don't bother, just drive it. Straight through exhaust to optimize response with varex muffler to keep it quiet when you need to.
  3. Illogical statement. It was crap because the set up for your previous engine was crap. That's why you are having the issues now because you are using the same suboptimal setup for your new engine, which is crap right now. Right? Logical isn't it? Not having a go at you, just saying now you have the knowledge that your set up from when you bought the car was suboptimal you know why it drove the way it did. Don't ignore the elephant in the room when you are critiquing your previous setup. Anyway all the best with it and I hope you get exactly what you want and even better than what you expect.
  4. I think the point being made here is that for anyone else considering a new setup and reading this thread, is maybe they should consider optimizing what they have first and see if it satisfies. To say to make this setup better you will fix the exhaust restriction and put it on e85 is great but if you did these things on you old setup, I am sure it would have driven closer to your liking, ie more response and power, actually i think it would have changed it significantly. And its not a matter of people spending more money its a matter of spending it smart. No disrespect here just an honest view on what I know from your history on the forum. Hope it all is smooth sailing from now on mate.
  5. With those turbos and the restrictive exhaust setup..... no shit it was laggy. No wonder the thing can't make power and is far from sorted at the moment. But surely the builder would have told him that when they were considering the build. Given the current circumstances, running rich is a given.
  6. Still can't believe your running a 3 inch restriction in your exhaust. If that was on your original engine before, it could explain why it was so laggy. Hope you sort it out. Sounds as though it will be nice to drive.
  7. If it has back pressure problems get the exhaust sorted before the tune or you will be back for another one
  8. I still suspect an issue from the compressor to the plenum.
  9. Yes that's what I mean. Also a consideration is the turbo not being supported correctly.
  10. I thought exhaust gases are hot when u r running lean
  11. Maybe it's just the IC can't cope with the higher rate of boost increase in the lower gears
  12. Where is your boost pressure sensor. It would be interesting to know the pressure before the intercooler to see if it's similar to that of the plenum.
  13. The only logging it has is in the log works program on a pc. You can log while you are connected to a notebook and save the data for review. It will plot a graph over time or rpm (x axis) of boost and afr (y axis). When you hover the mouse over a point it will give you the value summary. Hope this helps.
  14. As above I am very impressed with the unit. Sorry not sure what you mean by this but if you are asking if it holds boost right up to the shift point, yes it does and if it drops off you can manage it by adjusting the gain function. Please explain further if I didn't answer this correctly. Thanks mate.
  15. 80w140 just causes a bit of chattering when cold. That's about it. Been running it for 2 years with no issue at all.
  16. So just a question. Is there a diagnostic procedure to check this sensor or similar or is it just a matter of fault diagnosis.
  17. It would be nice to log EGTs as well which would give you a better idea of the situation. Better to measure the happiness of the engine than just listening to it. You could also get it right in a short time. You might not realise you are running too lean until you reduce airflow, then a slight increase in intake temps may be enough to detonate a hot chamber when you are in low speed traffic and your intake temps aren't high enough to retard timing . Hope I make sense.
  18. Do you think this is a good thing. I always worry about the better cleaning properties of some oils may flick off deposits and cause more issues in bearings. Don't know, just a thought.
  19. What's your fuel consumption like.
  20. Best thing to do is go for a drive in a responsive car and a laggier car. Doesnt matter what car. And work out what you prefer and then you have your answer. Go to a jdm meet or something and I am sure someone would be happy to take you for a drive. This is the best way to choose you prefered setup.
  21. Sensor is too close, needs to be just before the cat. And need to be calibrated free to air.
  22. Would be nicer to drive than something coming on boost at 3 grand that's for sure. But I love lag so this comment doesn't count.
  23. This is definitely my type of build. Congrats. Post up some vids asap. I want to see it come on so bad. Preferably doing a four lane skate on an empty freeway. Congrats again.
  24. I would be checking AFRs too but johnnilcte pretty much summed it up.
  25. With all due respect mate if anyone pulled out a crowbar to take the balancer off I would snap him one in the mouth. Just make sure these cowboys didn't f**k up your oil pump. Just check with a torch and make sure the cover isn't damaged. If it was me I would be towing it to the rb garage. Get him to do an assessment before he touches it, with pictures. Sorry mate but I wouldn't be risking a motor.
