Was a great race!! lots of passing, good battle between Alonso and Shuey. Webber should be happy with the result, Rosberg looks very promising. Rosbergs fastest lap gives hope to Williams for the future, hopefully their cars will remain that fast throughout the whole season.

yeah it appears rosberg may be a superstar in the making. Webber did very well and i thought his 6th was a pretty good drive. Kimis race was outstanding and i was pissed that alonso got past MS. if cars had jumped out of mikes way like they did for the bithcing alonso then schuey would have had those vital tenths to get past the bath dodging wanker. how about him carrying on with his hands out of the cockpit and getting on the radio to bitch about blue flags. fark me, often the car was about half the length of the straight ahead of him. knob.

let's hope webber can stay on top of rosberg for the rest of the year. and that schuey is just getting warmed up.

how about him carrying on with his hands out of the cockpit and getting on the radio to bitch about blue flags.

WHAT?? Are u kidding me??? Schumi is the worst culprit of all time with sort of behaviour... he waves his f*king hand around like "Hey, 7 time WC coming thro, get the f*k outta my way!!", wat a dick

Not a bad first race of the '06 season. Good to see Schue back up the top, I thought he had it in the bag until that last pitstop. It appears Webber is up to his usual stuff, spend the entire race chasing back the coupla guys that get past him in the first corner rather than actually progressing anywhere up the order.

I actually had abit of trouble picking out some of the cars (Williams vs Sauber etc) and was getting confused who was who.

I will have some short divx's clips uploaded soon.

agreed, the 'SMWBH: small man with a big head' (alonso) is very annoying. he was waving his hands like dog getting its balls chopped off. I wish MS got past him aswell. The cars that were in front of SMWBH were like 400 metres in front of him, what an asshole.

Well i was rapt alonso got past MS.Alonso had the better car all day and you could see he was going to get past.

And how about Massa, lol lost it under breaks and almost t-boned Alonso, lol. What a dick.He pulls a lucky lap in QUALI and everyones saying hes a gun and thats why hes in a ferrari.Look forward to seeing him write-off a few Ferraris this year.

Its one race. I will wait until they get back to Europe before readign too much into anything. Massa didnt seem to have done that bad a job, hell even everyone golden boy binned it on the first corner and was lucky not to be out of the race.

Klien gets my amn of the match award, unles DC was having problems that im not aware of

Are you for real? lol.Klien?

Raikkonen was the star of the show and Rosberg was his side kick. Now theres a driver line up!

I still carnt belived he set the fastest lap on debute. That is going to be talked about for years to come.

Also how early did Webber break going into the first corner he would hace been right up there but lost out mybe 3 vital postions. And like someone just said spent the rest of the race playong catch up. Im sure he'll get em next time. Not a bad drive.

I was expecting a little more from the Hondas.Lets see at Sepang they should be qiuck there.

fair enough everyone has their opinion, but to me alsonso will always be a wanker. he carried on like a girl in those laps before his pitstop, and that was what got him the vital tenths to get just ahead of MS for turn 1. MS was a bit like that too in his day, but generally when things were tough he got on with driving, not bitching. as much as it pains me i must admit alonso is very quick, but i still think MS outclasses him in so many ways.

what troy said is so true. it's just the first race. give me three more then we should be able to see how the season is shaping up.

Massa did a great Quali-luck or no luck-P2 not bad way to start the season. He is no superstar but maybe with a bit race craft(Rather than testing all the time)he will be exactly what Ferrai want him to be >>No. 2 to Mr M Schumi-The 1 min pit stop didnt help his cause either-That pit stop looked like Ferrari in the bad old days-guys yelling and waving there hands with a flury of Ital swearing

With the Massa lock up well... guess its hard for us to know or understand braking in an F1-these things stop harder than anything on earth(exept when Sato hits a wall or someonelse) They even out stop a road car under full braking just by lifting the throttle at 300km/h-something us mere mortals will never experience

If Rosberg managed fastest lap, then clearly Williams has the pace (it's not like Alonso and Schumaker didn't have oportunities to set fastest lap). If Williams has that much pace, why the hell did Webber only manage to finish in 6th place?

Webber is only a 5-10th place driver, that's all he is good for. He has the talent to hold that position but doesn't have the talent of say Alonso or Kimi to go and hunt down the cars ahead and actually make a go of it.

In the 2005 season Webber averaged 7th place every race (36pts) and Alonso averaged 2nd place every race.

I can see Rosberg actually beating Webber in the Championship. Webber will have consistent 5-10th places, where as Rosberg will have afew 3-5ths and just as many out of the points finishes.

williams are still coming to terms with the bridgestone tyres. thats why it takes them a bit to get going in a race. they dont have the data that ferrari do.....

i agree with benm, webber is good, but he's not great. it takes him a while to get his brain into gear during a race, the opposite of trulli, who starts great, then fades. webber is also one of the worst starters on the grid. almost every race, he seems to loose a spot or 2 or more from the grid, then has to waste time trying to recover those positions. i thought he'd have it down pat by now. oh well......

im a big webber fan, i just find these "im-perfections" a little annoying :

I'd rather see Webber go out of the race on the first corner from actually having a go (at either holding his grid position or trying to grab another spot or 2) than playing it extremely safe in the first corner and then waiting for the cars infront to pit to actually move up a spot.

He reminds me of Glen Seton. Always in the race, always getting a point or 2, but never ever anything spectacular... just making up numbers.

:turned: god damn thats pretty spot on, as much as i hate to admit it his performances so far in his career (in F1) have been very Glen Seton like. Bastad, i hate Glen Seton! Webber is awesome, hopefully he comes out and goes nuts this season.

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
