If you could do it cheaply I guess it makes sense... It would be an interesting comparison though. Do it and we'll have a track off in 12 months time somewhere :whistling:

I have the engine figures here at (including transmission)

SR20DET 490 lbs / 222kg

RB25DET 667 lbs / 302kg

You'd have to allow the greater weight of the RB25 box vs the SR20 one (20kg?) in the above to compare the engines themselves.

VQ35DE+T in an R32 GTS-T (or an R33) could also be an interesting one?? assuming of course it can be made to fit relatively easily. In a few years when the cost / availability of the engines is a bit more down to earth.

sounds good to me. let me finish with my GTR first, then it's SR2032 for the win! 80kg weight saving is not bad at all. hell if you had some dough to spare just build it up as a tomei 2.2 and like I said use GTI-R valve train and the quads (need to adapt to NS mounting though). It would be a very nice track car i reckon.

Just strip it, get radiator, oil cooler, sump, some proper gauges, suspension and a roll cage and you are done.

Then spend the rest of your money on tyres, petrol, oil, brake pads/rotors and every single track day you can get to.

Project cars with a million horsepower are great... to poop on!

Ok using IPRA regs from memory

R32 RWD (min weight can be 90kg lighter)

strip interior, seam weld shell

8 point cage with lateral bars at a/b/c pillars and front strut bars.

'Glass front dam with splitter and undertray (push that as far as the rules will go)

Polycarbonate windows

Everything above the axle centreline either gets mounted onteh floor or turned into plastic/CF/'glass (where applicable)

Flat floor with tunnels (I can't find anything to say you can't do it!) :(

Turn P/S from mechanical to electric pump (not as expensive or as hard as it sounds)

Here's the bit that'll freak people out

RB30 Naturally aspirated with double cam head

12.5:1 CR

50mm ITB's

Big cam

EFI Euro96 ECU

Bosch 044 pumps X2

Aiming for 350-400hp at the flywheel

Why?

Because then you can run at 1225kg min instead of 1455! Turbo engines have a 1.7 equ factor so a RB30 turbo is a 5.1L (1455kg RWD/1545kgAWD) and even a RB26 is the 4.4 so it falls inteh same weight class.

Exedy clutch with light flywheel

A Hollinger would be nice but I think that's getting a little too much

Suspension

custom bars

Koni 2812's (if budget allows)

Otherwise Koni yellow

Eibach springs (I'm guessing 300-500lb)

Fiddle with geometry/mounts/bushes

Brakes

Bias bar

Brembo's F&R

PFC rotors and pads

Quiafe/Torsen LSD

Digitek logger with dash and as many sensors as I could afford (shock pots, steer angle, etc)

I think I've blown the build budget for the year so far.

But then, if you want cheap, buy a Playstation! :)

But by the tim eyou have all the Data Acq gear you could have a pretty quick car...though i suppose to have areally quick car you need it...meh, im slower then the car i drive at the moment so i still have to try and catch the car

LOL, the DAQ gear is there for the drivers benefit more than the cars most of the time.

TRADER!

You choose a nissan because your a nissan man...who cares if its cost practical or not...I wouldnt care if it cost me three times a porsche to make a gtr just as competitive. It might take me three time longer to do, and complete but hey im loyal :D

Im gonna get a sticker for the back of the 33 racecar. BANNED FROM TOURING CARS FOR A REASON! if your reading this then you know why :D

Funny how they werent banned from Touring Cars, but yeh.

Interesting to hear you think its CHEAPER to buy a GT3???? From what i have seen a decent Skyline, bet it GTR or even GTSt will be close if not quicker then GT3 Porsches.

A GT3 Cup Car is another thing, much quicker, but still surprised you think its cheaper to buy a 200k ex race car rather then spend 40-50k on a GTR, and im betting the GTR will be as quick as a Cup Car

you can buy a older model GT3 cup car(Track only) with cage and MOTEC for around the 130k-I have spend 100k on a R32 GTR before and it was quick but when it came to cosistant lap times at Qld raceway the Porsche was faster, more reliable and better engineered all day every day(and this was with a well known V8 Supercar driver doing the driving of both car)

GTR's are good but by no means the be all and end all- I have had 6 of them but no more

How many Porsche in the top 10 at targa this year??? ummm any GTR's???....

And as for being called a trader by num nuts(R33 Racer) i have had 30 plus Nissans over the last 10 years and at least 15 were Skylines and 6 were GTR's

Edited by gtr660hp

as in no more turbo cars...back to only 5.0 litre v8's. Not going into hardcore tech here..just being general.

ok was only joking about it mate....christ almighty...the internet warps everything you say unless you specify it exactly.....hey this is sarcasm or hey this is a joke...im guessing that much as you are on this forum and didnt join yesterday :( no need to go calling names buddy. Dont actually mean that your a trader...geez. Just that your thinking impure thoughts by suggesting the porsche idea... and once again im being dead serious...people need to lighten up abit.

our car hasnt been beaten by a porsche yet! ever!!

and we have raced many and we havent spent there kind of money either, gt2's & the bi turbo gemballa, cup cars whatever , we have been faster on the track and in a straight line.

nissan all the way

cheers russ

Fair enough, but i dare say you have spent money in all the wrong places...as i can seriously spend 50k on a a number of cars and you will be quicker over a number of laps. If you are talking about getting 30 laps out of a set of tyres rather then 25 yeh then maybe.

Its all a game in spending the money in the right places....

Ok here is an example...

Series 8 RX7,

Completely gut the car, put in a full cage, 15k on suspension and wheels, 8k on gearbox and clutch. 25k on engine, fuel system and electrics. 5k on brakes. 5k on ReAmiya Aero parts. The car as a race only import is only 10k. Say another 5k opn race seats and harnesses. I would gladly bet my money on such a car beating a GT3 Cup Car....most definitely wipe the floor with a road GT3.

Throw those numbers at any decent platform and you will end up with a quicker car. At the end of the day a Cup Car weighs 1240kg and the engines are sealed GT3 RS engines...so whats that 260rwkws? Those numbers arent that hard to beat with turbo Japanese cars, especially if you are throwing Penske/Ohlins/Proflex shocks etc under them

If you're throwing Ohlins at tehm then you'll need your 15K for the shocks alone.

If you're throwing Ohlins at tehm then you'll need your 15K for the shocks alone.

It really depends. Ohlins as a description doesnt really mean much does it. Like anything you have your cheaper Ohlins and you have your pricey top of the range Ohlins, Bilsteins, Proflex, Penske. At the end of the day a Cup Car uses control shocks, so im pretty sure that $2,500-3,000 a corner on supsension , so max 12k all up and 3k on forged 17" wheels is a adequate budget. Suspension arms etc do not have to be anything radical or expensive. Anyway thats my thinking

Im tlakign out my a55 anyway so :P

    • Hey crew, Failed my WOF cause of a lower control arm, and I've decided to hit both arms, and also the compression rods at the same time(seems they're gonna be the most likely upcoming failure points from some discussions with the lads over on the G35 reddit). I've looking at these form Z1:  https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-compression-rod-p-40716.html https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-lower-control-arm-p-40674.html I asked Z1 if they'd work as it's the same platform, just RHD vs LHD. I basically got told "Lol dunno". Specifically they aren't aware of any difference but can't guarantee fitment as they haven't done it on a 350GT. So guess I'm asking is if there is any issues with using 2005 G35 coupe suspension parts on a 2005 350GT coupe? Orginally I thought it could be something in the way of the arms that each control arm is designed to be positioned around, but that'd be an engineering nightmare for Nissan needing two different shaped control arms 😅
    • ^ This. The mode door actuator is a common failure, as is the actuator and/or the actual valve for the coolant flow control valve. I also don't know how available the mode door actuator is these days. I've been meaning to look into it and get one from wherever is possible, to keep in the shed for the rainy day when mine eventually fails. Anyway, the advice to you is to search the usual NOS part supply places, or even just go to Nissan and see what they list.
    • Have you got a pic of the actuator? My guess is that unit has failed internally and was flopping around, so the previous engineer who owned it forced it to be fully open to cold air (blocking the heater core path). As far as you can tell, is anything else wrong in the system? Likely you just need a new actuator (not sure how available they are) and then "installation is the reverse of disassembly"
    • I'm happy with the Lsailt unit that I put in, it puts full Android on the top screen so you can run whatever Nav and other Apps you want, while still existing inside the factory functionality like automatic reverse cams, audio input switching, retains factory bluetooth etc. Not cheap and the install was moderate (not simple, not hard) Yours is a V36 not V37 though right?
    • Yeap, all the NC's that I originally looked at that had a hard top were PRHT, which makes the roof line look horrible, hence why I said nope to them My only caveat for another MX5 was it needed to have a hard top, and initially I didn't think you could get a detachable hard top for the NC,  like my NB had Again, a big thanks to Matty for helping me source the detachable hard top for my little girl, they are as rare as hens teeth in Australia, and the few people who have them, keep them Also to Greg, for initially pointing me in the NC direction NC PRHT 🤢🤮 Not mine (I really should take more photos of my car), but a NC with the detachable hard top 😁 To me, the difference in how the detachable hard top roof line looks, and how it actually follows the bodies lines, like they do on NA's and NB's, is chalk and cheese compared to the bulbous looking PRHT
