My 2 cents... Sounds like someone making up another model. Like on carsales once i saw a R32 GTS-T 92 model was a basic standard M spec car.

Advertised as "R32 Turbo SE (special edition)"

I laughed when the guy, he explained it was one of 100 cars ever build when i went to have a look at it.

All R33 GTS25Ts are Type-Ms

However Spec 2s (otherwise known as Series 2) versions kicked in from 1996 production cars onwards. There were some 1995 produced cars with some of the Spec 2 features, which are colloquially known as 'Series 1.5.'

The following thread contains a discussion about the differences.

We are looking at a couple of cars at auction in Japan , and it does say SPEC 2 on the detail sheet.

LSD's standard in all 96-98 cars ? , what about rear wipers do all R33's have them ?

Thanks for answers so far . Brad

Not all of the 33's are type M's. My friend had a 33 Gts25t that wasnt a type M.

Chris

That's the first I've heard of that.. well there was a GTS25t type G, but that was a sedan. All the model info on the net and on SAU doesn't seem to indicate otherwise for the GTS25t.

LSDs are standard in the Spec 2s. Some have the 'Active-LSD' which is similar to the diff from V-Spec GTRs, you can tell if it's one of them because the dash cluster will also have two lights for 'slip' and 'traction control' (something like that anyway).

Rear wipers are optional on any model Skyline.

yes they are referred to as gts25t.

any manual turbo 33 is type m.

and there were a few limited edition skylines made. they started doing them with the old DR30 skylines. a mate of mine has one. they came out with no stereo, and not much sound proofing. they are basically a race model. i have a HPI mag somewhere that talks about them. it is in a article about buying a skyline and says that they are so rare they aren't worth mentioning, as most were bought and used for race cars. i'm going to try to find the article and scan it.

YeeHaa thanks , we are going to bid on the car tomorrow anyway , the info we have the better . Much appreciated .

Captain Obvious would like you to know that there is a sticky thread at the top of this section which has a link to details on where you can get all the model specific info you need.

So..... what about the automatic ones? (Which were also sold as Type M?)

Going by the "all turbo manuals are Type M" theory, there would be no such thing as a 33 GTR.

All turbo R33 GTS-t's are type M. It really is as simple as that.

If someone can give me the vin number of the guy's car that supposedly isn't a type-M i will send him a screenshot from FAST indicating that indeed it is. If I am wrong then I apologise but i'm pretty damn sure.

What is he basing the not a type-M call on? Unless it came from the factory with a non-turbo engine and had a turbo engine dropped in....

Preaching to the choir.. :D

Type M came in manual and auto, and as you can see, the post I quoted stated that "any manual turbo 33 is type m"

.. which to an uneducated reader (yes, there are a few around) would assume by that comment that the Type M was only available with a manual transmission, and (engine capacity aside) this would make the GT-R (which is manual & turbo) Type M also.

I suppose I was looking for an explaination of the posters thoughts in regards to the automatic Type M's?

Perhaps the comment was based on the assumption that the "M" in "Type M" means that it has a manual transmission? :)

hi, just wanted to know what the difference between an mspec s2 33 and the normal one.

reason being i went to chek out a 33 today but the guy said mspecs only come with side skirts and rear pods? i remember they had a different front bar?

Just as the guy said... the normal Series II Mspec does not have the side skirts and rear pods, the front bar is the same across the board though. There is an aftermarket Mspec front lip too but it does not come as standard on the Mspec version.

    • perhaps i should have mentioned, I plugged the unit in before i handed over to the electronics repair shop to see what damaged had been caused and the unit worked (ac controls, rear demister etc) bar the lights behind the lcd. i would assume that the diode was only to control lighting and didnt harm anything else i got the unit back from the electronics repair shop and all is well (to a point). The lights are back on and ac controls are working. im still paranoid as i beleive the repairer just put in any zener diode he could find and admitted asking chatgpt if its compatible   i do however have another issue... sometimes when i turn the ignition on, the climate control unit now goes through a diagnostics procedure which normally occurs when you disconnect and reconnect but this may be due to the below   to top everything off, and feel free to shoot me as im just about to do it myself anyway, while i was checking the newly repaired board by plugging in the climate control unit bare without the housing, i believe i may have shorted it on the headunit surround. Climate control unit still works but now the keyless entry doesnt work along with the dome light not turning on when you open the door. to add to this tricky situation, when you start the car and remove the key ( i have a turbo timer so car remains on) the keyless entry works. the dome light also works when you switch to the on position. fuses were checked and all ok ive deduced that the short somehow has messed with the smart entry control module as that is what controls the keyless entry and dome light on door opening   you guys wouldnt happen to have any experience with that topic lmao... im only laughing as its all i can do right now my self diagnosed adhd always gets me in a situation as i have no patience and want to get everything done in shortest amount of time as possible often ignoring crucial steps such as disconnecting battery when stuffing around with electronics or even placing a simple rag over the metallic headunit surround when placing a live pcb board on top of it   FML
    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
