For those of you who get yelled at by the people for using buckets and sponges at the car washes, point to the sign about not using them. It states it's only in affect in California...

As for desal plants. If you set it up properly, you don't need the electricity to seperate it away. Hence no power in that regard needed at all!

Plus, if the government were smart, they'd be buying electricity from places like Bluescope Steel (The amount of waste energy that goes up in the air, is MASSIVE, the only reason they don't harness it, is because they have enough to run the whole plant on there own, and no one wants to buy the excess) There's your extra power, with the same amount of gasses being released now.

As for the greenhouse gasses, it's all a crock of shit. Have a look at how the earths climate shifts over thousands of years. We're just hitting to the natural point of melting the polar ice caps (Basically, the opposite of the ice ages we get!) It's all natural, green house gasses are only SLIGHTLY adding to this affect!

As for recycled water. Do a bit of research into it, we have one of these plants at my work with your "6 star rating" and it's claimed unfit for human consumption. None of this "perfectly safe" we're told, straight out, it's unsafe and for industrial use only.

I don't think anyone wants to actually drink the recycled water from the car wash... they just want to wash their cars.

Bore water is probably safer to drink than "recycled water".

Desal plants are able to power themselves these days, but the cost involved is huge, and our govt is tight, and has no vision for the future.

Otherwise we wouldn't be suffering such harsh water restrictions right now.

Environmental impact studies should have been undertaken at least 20 years ago, in an effort to get more dams/reservoirs in place to cope with standard population growth.

This hasn't been done, so now we've got the population boom combined with drought, and we're pretty well screwed.

Sounds like you use a car wash which has been imported from the USA and hasn't had it's signs changed?

Ive worked at a carwash for over 2 years now and I still get all these heroes coming in telling me they will use their buckets here and I cant do nothing about it (well I just turn the hose off on them mid wash and make them leave with a soapy car) 99% of carwashes wont allow you to use a bucket their and will have signs up stating so, everything you need is at the carwash, bringing your own products takes away a lot of business and while ur hogging the bay sponging your car down someone who is actually going to pay to use the proper equipment could be using it.

The foam brush will NOT scratch your car if you rinse it with the hose beforehand (I agree it could scratch if you dont rinse it beforehand as the person before you could of left it clogged up with mud etc), ive used it on my cars for 2 years and havent got a single scratch, I also had my front end resprayed on my R32 and used the brush on it for months, not a single scratch again.

I think most people just hear someone else go "yeah mate i used the carwash and now me cars scratched" and it gets around like that and people talk about it like the have firsthand experience with it when they dont know sh*t.

No offence but you sound like Ronald Mc Donald claiming big macs are healthy for people with zero fat content...

The bristles on the foam brush got stuck in my commodore, they got jammed between the rubber and metal bits. There is no way a foaming brush is as gentle on the paint as the sponge...

These stations will still make around 2-4 dollars even when people use their own buckets. One or two dollars to spray the car and fill up the bucket with water and then another 2 dollars to hose off the car itself. I spend 6 bucks on the car wash using the foaming brush...

What were you doing jamming the brush in between the rubber and metal?

That sounds more like "user error" than a problem with the brush...

Common sense would stop most people sticking the brush in an area where bristles are likely to get caught.

Plenty of people have stated that they have used the brush for years with no ill effects.

correct me if im wrong but i have never seen a full self car wash there is always 1 or 2 places free

There's normally a queue in all bays and the laser wash at both my local car washes. :w00t:

It got stuck between the mirror and the main body... where the rubber seals are. The brush was obviously old and used. They also got stuck on top of the roof to the side of it... it wasnt fun trying to rip them out...

Do you go at night?

i go after work and never had an issue, ive even been there at times when the ppl who own the joint are there and only once they asked me to move my car as someone was waiting for the bay to wash there car.

but if they question it just tell them ur using the water to rinse the car and wax it (even if its a lie) and u just prefer to wash by hand as the brush scratches ur paint, and when saying that they have let me do it.

i'll get pics of my car when i hand washed it and waxed it and how smooth the paint is....and ill post a pic of my car at a car wash with the brush and u can see freakin scratch lines really fine in the paint and its dead obvious if u look at the car in the sun... i dont car what no car wash attendent says it does scratch!

yup.. there is no denying that your cars are immaculate!

i think bayside is only on level 3 water restrictitons, because we get our water from the island which i really cant remember the name of right now.

7am-7pm restriction and you only get certain days dependsing on your house number.

Lucky i guess

yes Redlands shire get water from the Stradbroke aquifers, which would otherwise flow straight into Moreton bay.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
