i wouldn't risk driving a turbo car without the appropriate license u get caugh u loose your license not points!!!
Did you just make that up yourself, or did a mate tell you ?

Either way, you're wrong.

yeh, well the car im looking at, is completely stock, ride height and everything, i thought that if i didnt drive crazy in busy and public places lol, id be fine, im from the vermont south area, and i hardly see cops, but then again once i get a car, im pretty sure ill drive everywhere my gf wants me drive haha. about the gts thing, like i know its all legal n stuff, i just reckon they are gay, like how many people would be like why the f**k are you driving a non turbo skyline, you get me? plus i wanna kill all my mates commodores :D

cheers, Kv.

Sounds like you'll be killing yourself before you kill any commodores in a bog stock R33 GTS-T...If your mates commodores are stock as well, then you don't need a GTS-T to beat them

emsta2003 im pretty sure gts-4 is single trubo all wheel drive

R33 GTS-4's are non turbo. R32 GTS-4's are turbo.

FFS!

you're

:D

look - its up to him if he wants to buy one. He knows the consequences - let the boy decide now. yep? :D

They're not telling him what to do, they're trying to educate him considering the fact that he's basing his decision on bullshit that he's been told by his mates/cousins/whoever.

i dunno if anyones posted it, havent checked.

Isnt the law 125kw per tonne? at the fly off stock factory figures for P platers..

thats what i orginally thought.

Thats the current power to weight restriction...125kw/tonne, going by factory figures. Therefore ALL R33 GTS-T's are over. Some R32's are under and some are over...depends on the year from IIRC.

The new laws coming in dont go by power to weight (which is more accurate imo, as opposed to the new blanket bans) rather they ban ALL V8's, all turbo/supercharged cars and then some other cars that are listed as being high powered.

If you want a skyline.

A. your not gonna keep it legal

B. your not gonna drive it around like an excel.

Also worth noting, having one on your Ps is not only illegal, but it Voids your insurance.

Despite insurance companys willing to cover you, when it comes to claim time, they will not honour it as you were driving an High powered Vehicle.

So If you were to hit a 100k Merc and they investigated due to the large payout you could be up for some serious bills!

Honestly man , you can do better than a Skyline!!! What happend to buying up a older performance car and building it up- if you have a budget for a R33, you should have a budget to build up something way cooler.

Plus it will be legal and you will embarass slower R33s!

Its a risk, not a given.

Tell it to the many people on their p's that have had claims paid. Some of them on seperate occasions.

I know of 5 people with R33s that have had claims denied. They would probably let it slip if you hit a 6k Excel or Commodore. Not an expensive car.

Im not one to take risks.

Kim's right.

When I was on my P's I remember only one guy had to worry about power to weight laws - and that was with his Mum's Volvo 740 Turbo wagon. TX3s were OK IIRC.

Most people had Corollas, Escorts, Lasers, Celicas, Geminis (and the occasional Lada).

These days you have E30 BMWs, DC2 Integras, EK Civics, MX5s, SSS Pulsars - heaps of other fun, sporty 4-cyl cars under $10k that are fun to drive, look cool and relatively economical to run.

Each to their own... but if I was 19 again, running the gauntlet of the law and 6-cyl turbo fuel bills is something I'd rather not worry about.

You can get a non turbo supra for under 15K these days (probably less im not 100% sure) but the supra should perform like any stock r33 gts-t (heard it is 140kw for a non turbo supra???).

But then again everybody probably agrees that they are heavy and shit lol

Theres heaps of other rides out there...honda legend, prelude, integra, nonturbo MR2, non turbo GTO (costly)..................

absolutely wrong

how is that wrong? he asked if it was legal to drive TURBOS on your ps. and i said in july 08, new p platers cant drive any TURBO at all, no matter what.

god damn, whats with you mods, stop getting so angry, where is the love

PEACE XOXOXOXOXO

oh ive made up my mind, r33 gts-t f**k yeah !

i dunno about you, but I THINK those cars are just tird, i aint no rice burner. im picturing it now, *in my nonturbo mr2* then some fresh gtst coming up next to me at the lights, and i looked to the side and i think to myself wtf did i just buy??

now you think about it lol, i didnt sign up to this forum to buy no honda or toyota...

It's wrong because it's not right... well it's right, but it's misleading. :D

What you actually said was:

my cousin just gave vicroads a buzz, the new graduated licence system start on JULY OF 2008 and will not effect any other P'plater who has got their P's before this date.

Do you think that when vicroads say "The new high powered vehicle restrictions for P drivers will start from July 2007", they actually mean 2008?

Perhaps you should ring Vicroads and tell them that they got their information wrong, and they weren't listening to your cousin when he told them which new rules were being introduced, and when it was happening.

Give them a call, here's their number 13 11 71

:D

No, wrong

You said

no no no, the new laws start july 2008, from then on p platers cannot drive turbos/v8s/supercharged, so if you have your ps or get them before july 2008, your fine :D

That is totally wrong.

You are not fine before 2008 at all.

oh yeh ! 1 other thing, about registration and insurance, whos name should i put it under? one of my parents, or me? i know if it was insurance and under my dads name, and if i was an "extra" driver itl cost way more but would they pay out to say if i crashed...since it is a high powered vechicle...and me being on my ps?

thanks !!

Put it under your own name, it will make little difference to the cost and you will build hopefully a good insurance history lowering your premiums over time.

Technically they don't have to pay out as you would be driving illegaly but they most likely will.

Honestly, some young drivers with High powered imports think its just jealousy. Why do you feel the need to jump in a skyline straight off? Most V8 commodore blow the doors off stock skylines did you know that?

A Mitsubishi 380 Hire Car I had blew the doors off my mates 32 GTST off the line, on the run and the 32 had a full exhaust and filter as well.

If I was in your situation for the money, Id buy myself a KE70 Corolla and dump a 4AGE motor in it with usual mods, cams, ecu, fuel pump. coilovers. Youd have an absolute screamer power to weight, be able to destroy commodores and actually learn HOW to drive. You would have so much cash left over to bust on nice wheels and a paint job plus the fuel money saved and the 200 dollar 3rd party insurance bill.

Driving and thrashing in old cars over the years has given me the best experience I could ever get.

    • My thinking is that if the O2 sensor is shot then your entire above described experience is pure placebo.
    • Here is the mess that I made. That filler there was successful in filling dents in that area. But in the middle area. I can feel dents. And I've gone ocer it multiple times with filler. And the filler is no longer there because i accidently sanded it away. I've chased my tail on this job but this is something else lol. So I'm gonna attempt filler one more time and if it doesn't work I'll just high fill primer the door and see where the issues are because guidecoat is of no use atm.
    • Ok, so I think I sort of figured out where I went wrong. So I definitely overthinked it, and I over sanded, which is probably a large part of the problem. to fix it, I ended up tapping some spots that were likely to be high, made them low, filled them in, and I tackled small sections at a time, and it feels a lot better.    I think what confused me as well is you have the bare metal, and some spots darker and some are lighter, and when I run my finger across it, it' would feel like it's a low spot, but I think it's just a transition in different texture from metal to body filler.    When your finger's sliding on the body filler, and crosses over to the bare metal, going back and forth, it feels like it's a low spot. So I kept putting filler there and sanding, but I think it was just a transition in texture, nothing to do with the low or high spot. But the panel's feels a lot better, and I'm just going to end up priming it, and then I'll block it after with guide coat.   Ended up wasting just about all of my filler on this damn door lol
    • -10 is plenty for running to an oil cooler. When you look at oil feeds, like power steering feeds, they're much smaller, and then just a larger hose size to move volume in less pressure. No need for -12. Even on the race cars, like Duncans, and endurance cars, most of them are all running -10 and everything works perfectly fine, temps are under control, and there's no restrictions.
    • Update: O2 sensor in my downpipe turned out to be faulty when I plugged in to the Haltech software. Was getting a "open circuit" warning. Tons of carbon buildup on it, probably from when I was running rich for a while before getting it corrected. Replaced with new unit and test drove again. The shuffle still happens, albeit far less now. I am not able to replicate it as reliably and it no longer happens at the same RPM levels as before. The only time I was able to hear it was in 5th going uphill and another time in 5th where there was no noticeable incline but applying more throttle first sped it up and then cleared it. Then once in 4th when I slightly lifted the throttle going over a bump but cleared right after. My understanding is that with the O2 sensor out, the ECU relies entirely on the MAP tune and isn't able to make its small adjustments based on the sensors reading. All in all, a big improvement, though not the silver bullet. Will try validating the actuators are set up correctly, and potentially setting up shop time to tune the boost controller on closed loop rather than the open loop it is set to now. Think if it's set up on closed loop to take the O2 reading, that should deal with these last bits. Will try to update again as I go.
