Hi,

Recently purchased a 200SX, with some mods done, and wanted to get a dyno run in before i did any more mods to the car. I know it has a SR20DET and not a RB series engine so its cool if I'm not welcome to attend.

Also - just to be extra difficult - I start work at 230pm on the Gold Coast that day... So if its possible to be slotted in before 1pm'ish that would be awesome.

So can I come along?

Side question - cos im a noob and never had a dyno run - do you guys worry about ambient air temps for dyno runs? Like if its a really hot day, you'll only run 14psi instead of 17psi etc.

also ... how do I upgrade the motor where my avatar should be from an RB20E to an SR20DET? :)

hah, i only found this last night after 2 years..haha

Yes by all means, this is an open dyno day. All makes and models... More than 90% of the cars on the rollers will be skylines, but your more than welcome to come along. Just read the first post and when your happy give us the nod and your in...

As for running early in the day thats not an issue, we will fit you in before 11am so you have plenty of time to take off when needed...

As for the boost setting, you said your car is slightlly modified. At 17psi I hope you have aftermarket fuel management, injectors, z32 afm and an aftermarket turbo... Cause if your running 17psi on any stock components your gonna blow your engine up within 4000-5000km's...

I always say run the boost your management is setup to handle... I wont be turning mine down thats for sure... :)

Please in future post these sorta questions in the help area of the forum, not in the middle of a dyno day thread... Thanks

Thanks Series II...

Awsome! Thanks Col and SAU.

Most ill run is 15psi... I was kinda refering to you big boys with your big toys :) Actually 1/2 the reason for wanting the dyno run is before i do something about the engine management.

Please in future post these sorta questions in the help area ...
 sorry.

So yes put me down and ill internet transfer the money on the 1st or 2nd of the month after I get paid.

No worries your in...

Ill note an early run for your car so you can rest assured that your in and out in no time...

Josh has lead a sheltered life...

Geebung/Virginia are no worse for crime that Noosa or the gold coast... The people who live in the area are generally working in the industries based in virginia.

So they are hard working families and yes I would feel comfortable walking through there at night... Its probablly safer than hastings street or cav ave...

No mase required... Just Josh is scared of everything out side Noosa...

You know i'm just playing  I'll give you a hug at the dyno day to make up for my naughty talk of Geebung :)

P.s, speaking of crime, someone broke into my little red swift.... Took the head unit and amp  Damn Noosa and our high crime rate!

dont think you quite understood... he meant a hand held UHF - for talking to other people - sorta like a CB truckies use

ps ill transfer money when a get paid at the end of the month

OK

Time to ramp up the payments people...

2 weeks till the payments close... I have re-done the list on the first page of the thread, remember your spot is not secured until payment is verified by SMR33... First 40 payments are locked in as a 100% run...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
    • Yes that’s another issue, I always have a front mount, plus will be turbo plus intake will big hasstle. I’ve been told if it looks stock they’re fine with it by a couple others who have done it ahahaha.    I know @Kinkstaah said the stock gtt airbox is limiting but I might just have to do that to avoid a defect so it atleast looks legit. Or an enclosed pod so it’s hidden away and feed air from the snorkel and below Intercooler holes like kinstaah mentioned. Hmm what to do
