Day At Mallala - Professional Coaching + Driving On The Track

Recommended Posts

I've come across this website : trackskill.com.au, because i want my dad to do a V8 drive (hes not into turbos!)

They do Club Drive Days at Mallala...

"Typically we include a short lecture on vehicle dynamics and racing techniques, including: cornering, braking, steering, oversteer, understeer and much more."

"Our range of programs caters for all groups, from the more conservative through to those looking for high speed performance training."

"Current competitive race drivers are available to provide race-tested advice on car set-up."

Cost looks like about $150 per car - which i presume would be a day of driving your skyline at racing speeds, and professional coaching and advice.

Is there anyone that would be interested in this, before i make more enquiries?

It's good fun.

I did it in my R34 a few years ago.

There was only about 11 people in total and two groups. 1 fast 1 not so fast. So it was good.

I didn't really learn anything about car control, breaking, conering, etc, etc which was a bit disapointing. They didn't really have the time to go through it with me correctly.

Was fun hooning around the circuit though.

I'm interested to do something like this but my GTR will be off the road until March as I can't get the HKS GTSS turbos until late January and then have to wait for postage from Japan and then get them fitted.

Otherwise I could push the car around the track but I doubt that would be as much fun. :P

Steve Cramp's track days at Mallala are much more useful if you want to learn driving technique - but are more like $400-$500 in your own car from memory.

A bit more information...

Don't need CAMS license for this day, not sure why, maybe because its not a "racing" event?

"We have done a day for the WRX Club and I would think that program would be ideal for you, it had fast laps, lecture, racing lines, motokhana etc." "We do have a very experienced drifter on our team but as you stated that’s a different day all together"

Any more thoughts / feedback guys?....

yep I am keen, but more keen in March/April when it is cooler, and after I have my oil cooler and upgraded trans cooler fitted. Last time I went in the S15 I boiled it in under 3 laps, so could only get out once per car session while I waited for it to cool down.

yeah for sure i tried to organise this when i had my R31 on the r31skyline club forum this was with tutoring was gunna cost like 300-400 so this is quite a bit cheaper

would be great

for 150 bucks i'd definitely be keen, any more than $200 though and i'd be out cause u also have to allow for petrol, tires and brakes etc.

Yeah I'd seriously be interested in going for that money. But yeah much more & I'll be dipping into my holiday savings. A track course of any sought is better than none at all.

What ever happened to this thread? Why did the idea stall? Every year it seems someone suggests a track day and gets some positive responses and then it just stops... why? Can someone please let me know where it all falls down?

the big issue is deposits - it is normally $x00 deposit per person, and while you have 20 guys say 'yeah yeah I am in', when it comes time to do it, if we are short numbers then someone forfeits the deposit. Basically someone needs to cough up a total of $2k deposit for everyone, then hope they show up.

yeah true

plus here in Adelaide were a bunch of slackers we talk a lot but don't do a lot

i used to work next door to track skill i will go see if Adam and Gary Baxter are still there and see how much and how many ppls we need with how much of a deposit

i know of ppls not on these boards that will come so im sure given enough of an advanced warning people can adjust there schedule's

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
