Hmm may have to fire up FAST and order some parts.

Thanks Fellas!

i have a full list of parts required if you need them...but back at the workshop and i wont be back there until tonight. If you have FAST it will be a snack.

Funny thing is most of the bits are cross referenced to the Nissan Navara...lol

So I just found out lol

All of them bar 1 washer they have in stock and can pick them up at 2pm :D grand total a whopping budget crusher $14.50 most expensive part was a washer at $5 even the stud was $2.50

Cheers

Well,

I finally got the top of the Head back together, and strted the car... Guess what the sounds still there.

I am scratching my head to what it could be! Its running fine, Revs fine, No smoke no missing nothing out the breathers just a god awful tapping sound coming fro mthe top of the engine.

I recorded a lil vid with the sound, be aware some of the noise is the clutch shaking from the low idle so I will post that as soon as its uploaded.

Sounds like rod knock to me. Forgive me for not reading through the thread, but have you confirmed that it's not rod knock?

It could also be piston slap, I had a bad knock noise from what I thought was my head after going to the track once. I could have sworn it was coming from the lifters... I rebuild them, put them back in, and the noise remained. A couple weeks later the motor started smoking really bad, and I took it apart and found a destroyed piston, I'm pretty sure the noise I heard was piston slap.

Good luck, hope you resolve it.

Roy, Oil pressure was perfect and stable.

We pulled the head of this afternoon and this confirmed my nightmares for the last couple of weeks....

Number 1 has Hit the Head, We pushed on each piston and when we got to number one it moved down a mm or 2 :-(

So we will be pulling the res of the motor out tomorrow to strip it down and see what in the world went wrong, But its sounds like the little end thats kuput :)

;)

Well I dont have much to say but yea the pictures will Explain it.

Have to replace:

- Crank

- Bearings

- Maybe 1 rod, should be fine hopefully

If anyone know anyone who works for nissan and can get me a R33 GTR crank at a good price and they let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

Cameron

RB30 cranks and blocks are only like $100.. :)

Sorry to hear though dude, good luck!

ive thrown RB30 blocks and cranks out...lol

got another whole engine given to me the other day because i wanted the oil pump housing off it.

    • Jack the back of the car up, pull that wheel off, pull that sensor out, and put a bore scope into the hole to inspect the outer casing, see if anything looks damaged before you pull the whole thing apart.
    • Ergh... So I pulled the speed sensor out again and the tip was shiny so I think it's rubbing the bearing. The bearing contains the magnets for the speed sensor so I think when the first sensor broke it damaged the magnet ring on the bearing.  This is just a Google image, but there is a hole going to the bearing. So when the tip broke off the old sensor I'm guessing it fouled the bearing... As the magnet is only protected by a plastic cover it would be easy to damage it. So I guess I'm doing a bearing again.
    • My thinking is that if the O2 sensor is shot then your entire above described experience is pure placebo.
    • Here is the mess that I made. That filler there was successful in filling dents in that area. But in the middle area. I can feel dents. And I've gone ocer it multiple times with filler. And the filler is no longer there because i accidently sanded it away. I've chased my tail on this job but this is something else lol. So I'm gonna attempt filler one more time and if it doesn't work I'll just high fill primer the door and see where the issues are because guidecoat is of no use atm.
    • Ok, so I think I sort of figured out where I went wrong. So I definitely overthinked it, and I over sanded, which is probably a large part of the problem. to fix it, I ended up tapping some spots that were likely to be high, made them low, filled them in, and I tackled small sections at a time, and it feels a lot better.    I think what confused me as well is you have the bare metal, and some spots darker and some are lighter, and when I run my finger across it, it' would feel like it's a low spot, but I think it's just a transition in different texture from metal to body filler.    When your finger's sliding on the body filler, and crosses over to the bare metal, going back and forth, it feels like it's a low spot. So I kept putting filler there and sanding, but I think it was just a transition in texture, nothing to do with the low or high spot. But the panel's feels a lot better, and I'm just going to end up priming it, and then I'll block it after with guide coat.   Ended up wasting just about all of my filler on this damn door lol
