Get the rotors machined and if the pads currently in there are decent then chamfer the edges and reuse them till they wear out.

If they need to be replaced the easiest option is bendix as they availabe from pretty much everywhere.

Thanks for that....also found some threads that mentioned other things that may contribute to the problem as well, so will try everything that's been mentioned. Need to get this sorted, just had enough of this squealing sh!t.

Hey guys Im looking for a some good pads for my R33 standard brakes atm. Car is making 400hp at the wheels so need some good pads.Used for street driving 90% time.

I was recommended Ferodo DS2000's ("Formula") rather than anything higher. When driving on the street you *need* good cold stop performance so it is a total waste of time buying high end pads that need a good hard stop to get heat into them before they work.

I did a track day (standard power output) and these pads were fine, so on the street you would have no trouble. Changing pads is trivial anyway, so you might as well run basic pads on the street and have a set to throw in if you're going to do a track day.

R32 GT-R. standard brakes and lines.

I have used DS2500 all round, a little noisy OK for the street. Ran out of brakes on a hot Perth day after a few long track runs around AHG. Ok for an occasional belt around AHG. More of a street pad than track, definite compromise.

added...GB braided lines, Brake Cylinder Stopper fitted, Hawk HP+ pads on front

Car stops no problems from cold. Very noisy for the street, probably same amount of dust. More laps this time and much lower ambient temperature. No fade, good bite from initial application but I suspect disk wear to be much higher based on feel and sound. The wear rate is advertised on the website so no surprise I suppose.

hey mate, yep ive had em in my r33 for about 4 months now and given them a hiding. the dust is quite low, heaps of bite even when cold and claim to withstand 700 degrees. i have tried most brands and these would be up there with the best but less than half the price. i bought them off www.carbling.com.au at $110 but a mate has just bought them from someone on ebay who have them on special - buy fronts and get rears at half price. i got a brochure of the pads in my delivery and they also do a full race pad withstanding 850 degrees. totally recommended

Can anyone tell me please how the QFM K750's and K500's are?

These are the same pads available in the group buy...

Keep in mind these are for a street driven R32 GTR with some drag strip days...

Hey guys, I have set of TRW Lucas pads on my r33 gtst with braided lines and new brake fluid.

Disclaimer: This review is valid for very hard driving and for most people im sure they would be ok for spirited road use.

These are cheap pads at around $70 and I think they are fine for the price, providing adequate stopping power for normal use but dont stand up to hard performance use and no way would they be suitable for track use in a Skyline.

Talking about these pads from a performance perspective only, when compared to Bendix Ultimates, Ferodo Formula(TS2000) and I would rate them as a clear last.

Compared to Ultimates and Formulas, I find they have:

less initial bite (less confidence)

less overall bite

more wooden pedal feel

similar modulation to Ultimates but worse than Forumlas

no advantage in cold braking performance

The most negative aspect of their performance is overheating. I have used Ultimates and Formulas on the same routes that I took with the Lucas pads many times and I have never experienced a major loss of braking performance with the former pads. Sometimes the Ultimates might have faded a little, but not enough to cause worry. Even when the rotors have been glowing red hot, and the pads are smoking they have always performed fine.

With the Lucas pads on the other hand, after around 6mins of hard use I experienced some fade, then gradually got worse within the next few mins. I slowed down and although the rotors wernt even glowing, there was big plumes of smoke coming from the pads after which I quickly sped up to cool them down! From this I am assuming that although they are rated at similar temperatures to the other pads, they overheat at a lower temperature since the disk was not even glowing when I experienced the major fade.

Bottom line, for normal use they will do the job fine and are a great buy for the price, but they are not for hard use. Personally I would avoid Ultimates since they eat rotors, but would pay the extra to get the Formulas over these pads. My set of Formulas with only a few mm of material left were easily more resistant to fade and better performing than the new pads.

I put in a set of Project Mu Max 500's on the 33 gtst and they have been pretty good IMO. The rest of my setup are DBA4000 series rotor, braidied lines and dot 5 fluid which standard calipers.

I did a good 5-6 hot laps at calder which no fade wotsoever....so was quite happy!

Peddal feel was a bit different to the Ultimates I ran before (less confidence), however they certainly hold up much better over more laps - although I did the rotors and pads at the same time so probbaly the combo of both that helped.

Bought DBA 4000 series slotted rotors front and rear with lucus pads .....pads were $75 front and $75 rear $946 all up for rotors and pads they are rated to 650 degrees are easy on the rotors and ill get 15 laps at mallala in a r32 GTR that runs low 11's down the 1/4 mile and mallala is very harsh on brakes these brakes are awsome could not fault them best up grade I have done hope this helps....

PS: still got stock lines brake lines and no special brake fluid yet so brakes should only get better....

Supposedly rated to 400 degrees, there's a guy on ns.com selling fronts for $165 and should be less dusty than ultimates... Can anyone say if they're any better than Ultimates? or the Bendix "street road track" pads?

performance friction carbon metalic.

omg insane pad. so easy to use and instant pedal responce. my pic of the list. but due to the fact that they work so well you cant tell your overheating the discs. cos they feel the same from warm to a orange hot disc. (as used in most top level motorsport. nascar,v8 supercars etc etc)

I was planning on getting PF pads for the front and rear for my car. Would be running 332mm front rotors and 300mm rear on a GTSt. Not sure if i should use the Carbon Metallic or the . My thinking is i will have plenty of brakes under the car so aim was to go for a nice pad that isnt of such a high temp/torque rating that they are hard on rotors. Was looking at using the PFC 97 pads or 93 pads but wondering if you are able to make use of the more street orientated Carbon Metallic then perhaps the PFC97 is massive overkill??? People i speak to and trust rate them, including guys in race teams for their feel whilst being kind to rotors. So do you know which Carbon Metallic you use?

I run them in my other sports car, seem ok. no dust and seem to grip up when cold.

Hey mate, not having a go but I find it hard to believe the Lucas pads would survive hard track use, they overheat quickly for me with hard street use. Its been a while since my initial review on these and they consistently fade and overheat with hard use.

What other pads have you used on the track so we can compare?

    • The alloy coolant reservoir has a sight glass, so as long as I can see coolant in the sight glass it's GTG, as for PS, it isn't anything catastrophic if it gets low, and as it hasn't lost a drop since I have owned the car I cannot see it being an issue, even after putting the "big block" 2.5 in....LOL The only time it gets slightly messy is at oil changes, as the oil filter sits above the frame, and I need to use a plastic bottle with its bottom cut off to catch the flow when loosening the filter
    • Good on you for taking on the job, but it is a big one. Even if you have bolt on manifold and turbo, you will need: Post throttle pressure source to boost controller to wastegate (and FPR, and ECU/MAP sensor) Pre throttle pressure source to top of BOV(s) Oil feed - you can take that from the standard port in the middle of the block Oil return to block under the turbo - this is much trickier than it seems to route a decent/wide pipe past the manifold. You really can't use rubber hose because it is way too hot there, and also the oil out of the turbo core is a bit frothy so it needs to have a decent diameter Water feed - you can take that from the standard port in the rear of the block. Water return - mine runs to a T into the heater box return, just make sure you don't create a high point making bleeding hard. All of those lines should use 200 series style teflon braided hose with heat shielding because everything needs to be routed past the manifold. Also a turbo beanie is a really good idea to minimise the chance of the car catching fire (under bonnet lining in particular) You also need to decide a cam cover breathing solution as well, will you vent externally via a catch can (probably illegal) or return to the intake (plumbing required and can oil up everything over time) Keep in mind the intake and exhaust piping in the engine bay will be custom so you either need to be able to fab ally and steel or have someone you can get a car that isn't running to. Get the wideband fitting welded into the dump pipe at the same time. Also, just my opinion, a screamer pipe attracts attention and doesn't add power, I'd plumb it back if you want to be allowed to keep the car on the road. BTW do you know anything about how healthy the motor is, and what power you are targeting? Doubling or tripling the factory power on an unknown motor is a little risky. Also fuel system will need some attention (pumps, high current hanger, direct power and earth feed, injectors etc)
