hey ppl

want to upgrade my cams. dont really no what is a good upgrade. so are the nengun cams any good

what kind of duration and lift am i looking for... also can the cam be different for inlet and exhaust as negun offer a slightly different exhaust cam

now nengun knows my car is a 1996 and highlights these as suitable but am i seeing that its for a 97/98 model only???

any advice on cams would be cool

my car makes crap power any way. i would be putting adjustable pulleys on at same time aswell

If the car is making "crap" power. You have a "crap" tuner.

Simple as that really.

Definetely have to agree with Nismoid. How much power are you making at the moment and how does the car feal? You are better off investing in a highflow or something in the likes of that to get you more power. Cams dont have to always give you more power, but usually just bring the power on better throughout the rev range. On a stock turbo set up the difference you will get from cams will be very minimal and honsetly you wont be happy with forking out a couple of grand with labour on a modification that isn't going to do much on your setup.

Go the turbo option at the moment, get all the necessary add-on modifactions to go without, then if you want to get more out of the setup go the cams.

how about for the RB25DE is it worth getting some made up for bottom end torque or midrange or top end ??

i know its up to what i want and wat im doing well id like to get some more bottom end midrange power..

keep in mind that i am doing a RB30DE conversion.

so it might be top end i want...

i dont know any one who has changed them so i cant really ask for experience.. except from u guys

I agree.

There is a R33 Gts-t in QLD that makes somthing like 800rwhp with N2O thats still using standard cams!!

Cant remember who owns it but it was in HPI or ZOOM.

I think you're refering to Phil's maroon r33 number plates NIS-33 that is one awesome car, he lives across the road from my mate.

yeh i read that in a thread... was that you who had that problem???

im looking at the HKS cams should i keep in mind the same thing with the build year and the crank angle sensor

Cams work quite well even on the stock turbo, even if you are limited in terms of it's peak power capabilltiy.

How well?

Enough to say that a properly 'performance cam' equipped RB25 will offer much greater performance than a non cam upgraded motor of the same ancillaries. Factory cams are for factory power (low power) and ecconomy goals and give the motor a breathing pattern suited to those goals.

My old R33 gtst ran a standard intake cam and a HKS exhaust cam and made decent gains across the power band with the factory turbo. It was substancially faster than 'without' cams, with the same peak power made at lower rpm, with less boost.

The old R32 GTR ran 260 tomei cams and was substancially better off as well, with factory turbos.

The point of cams is to open up the breathing potential of the engine. If you do this right on even a stock turbo'd engine you will realise very decent gains in power across the power curve.

In the case of keeping the factory turbo if you are happy with 200rwkw-ish peak power, with cams you;

* increase the average power

* lengthen & fatten up the power curve

* reduce the amount of boost and rpm needed to reach the peak power (less wear and lower intake temps).

* Don't need a fuel system upgrade, injectors / bigger fuel pump(if you keep the peak power number around where it was)

* Your car will be much faster

If you decide to upgrade the turbo later on all these things apply with greater magnitude.

The down side of cams is the cost and the need to have a brain to set them up right (additional tune costs). With a turbo upgrade it's bolt on more or less + tune, where cams are more labour and brain intensive.

AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.     • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
