I watched that show and there was consistancy... it wasn't all about the power and speed it was about the allround package, driver comfort, appearance, features, power, handling, affordability everything all round....

Yea im watching the show now.. 9th aint to bad at all, Considering the Ferrari Enzo only came in at 5th.

Enzo has no steering feel according to the reviews i've read- hardly the makings of a great sports car

Also, the paddleshift makes it less involving than it should be (so i hear :P)

Yeah was about to say, 1.8t is a bit heavy too dont you think...?

I thought r34 GTRs were around the 1500kg mark, 1600kg at most?

not if an american is driving it... apparently their medium meals at McDonalds are the size of our Large.

lol watching this atm, its been on before. its a british show so 9th is a good spot i spose :P. the whole section though theyre talking about GTR's, never call itthat though, just 'skyline' also they show all interior shots of R34 GTR and exterior of R33 Gtst S2 lol, some chick trying to drift who keeps spinning out, they have a power FC and they show host is like "using this coimputer they hack into the engine and make any adjustments they want !" was funny, really talked it up ! no wonder yanks want em so bad hehe.

Actually it was a S1 33. :P

How can you give it any cred if they put a Mazda MX5 in 2ND pos.

I mean..I like the car but..pffft...a little low on power..lol

My top ten are.

Porsche 998

Porsche GT3

Bugatti Veyron

Dodge Viper

Lambro Countach

Nissan GTR

Mazda RX7 series 8

Enzo Ferrari

Jaguar DB9

Mercedes SLR(sure it is called this)

Hey Im an American and ya our burgers are largest

no wonder yanks want em so bad hehe.,,,A yank is someones grandfather who fought in WWII.

The only thing I was trying to do is let you guys know what others think of our skyline.

The show also pointed out one big problem to. why the skyline as it is now will never be on the roads there.

The shows host said the car can get up to 1000HP, and with that kind of HP in the hands of a young man....America said H..l know.

Peace

yeh i remember seeing this on discovery, they showed an R33 - they said it was a "hackers car, because of the way you can tap in the cars ecu (they showed a power fc hand controller) they added timing etc

10th was the lamborghini countach (spelling)

I think its cos people consider it to be up there with the likes of porsche and ferrari (355) or something - i forget......however i dont know how true that is, but thats just what i heard.

A Porsche 911 isn't a supercar either. That car is, to quote Clarkson, just a trumped up Volkswagen Beetle.

It may be as fast, but a supercar is more than being fast. A supercar is an event. A GT-R is no F40, or Countach, or XJ220, or Bugatti EB110. Remember, the Countach was shit to drive in anything but a straight line. So were old Ferraris.

In modern terms its certainly no Zonda, Enzo, Murcielago, or Veyron. It lacks the purity of purpose of the first two, and the excess of the last two.

If we were talking about driver's cars or sports cars I'd rate the GT-R a lot higher than 9th. But a "supercar" its not.

The show was called "The Greatest Ever - Top 10 Sports cars".

Mclaren should have been no.1 in my books.

If its sports cars and not supercars, then the Countach shouldn't even have made it.

An Elise should have been in there. As should have a Westfield / Radical, and possibly the Ariel Atom. The Corvette should also have qualified.

The closest things to japanese supercars are NSX's, GTO's and 300ZX's (all 3 of which were coincidentally sold worldwide, including australia and america).

Variants of the 300ZX came with rear seats, which rules it out of supercardom in my books.

No supercar should ever have rear seats, unless its McLaren F1 style.

I watched that show and there was consistancy... it wasn't all about the power and speed it was about the allround package, driver comfort, appearance, features, power, handling, affordability everything all round....

You must have been watching a different show because there is no consistency in steering, power, comfort, features, affordability etc between an MX5 and any of the other cars mentioned. :(

The MX5 was purely rated on sales numbers. What a joke of a program! Then there was wanker comments like "Oh the Skyline is way too heavy". Yet they glorified heavier and slower cars. WTF? :)

Also, there is no way the NSX is a supercar. It may look like one, but certainly lacks the power of one to qualify as a 'super car'. The next gen NSX should change this though....hopefully!

There is nothing stopping the Japs from making a 'true' super car that would be on par if not better than current examples. It's just that no one would be willing to pay $300k for one. I don't think the people who can afford super cars go for just all out power and handling. There is an element of exclusivity and beauty that plays a part in their decision.

here in quotes the arm chair enzo specialist...

whoa!! JC is the be all and end all of anything to do with automotive...ANYTHING!

sorry...forgot he was God..ahem,..,.,.,.,.

by the way, were all your other dribblings Clarkson misdemeanors too?:no::wacko::yucky::P

by the way, were all your other dribblings Clarkson misdemeanors too?

I made a resolution to play nice, but if you want to start up again we can have another thread that is going to end up getting deleted because of how badly I embarrass you and your inability to grasp basic concepts.

The 911 is an amazing sports car, but supercar it is not. The Carrera GT is definitely a supercar though.

If the NSX doesn't qualify as a supercar based solely on its power, rather than its design brief and execution, then no Japanese car does as they're all making the same 280ps.

    • sold listed as a Tomei LSD 1.5 Way For 1998+ Nissan Skyline ER34 25GT RB25DE w/Open R200 https://www.ebay.com/itm/174006114594?campid=5338967980&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&toolid=10050&customid=&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&loc_physical_ms=108689&loc_interest_ms=&campid=5338967980&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&toolid=10050&customid=71883f2ccc571356e0a757bc7adfdde2&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&loc_physical_ms=108689&loc_interest_ms= it went in like butter all gears, alignment, back lash etc, rotation and clearances correct, and if rolling all rotates smooth and free when coasting down road , clutch in or out over 10 mph smooth... its the binding, clunking and jerking from a stop that is most concerning, also seems like its going to tear the tires off in 10 miles of normal road driving.
    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
