It would be interesting to know if it were a batch or if slide had some one else do the machine work/balance etc at some point?

R33God, you said the motor had a tapy sound or something.. what's oil pressure like? Drop your oil and look for metallic in it.

If there's a tap/knock coming from the motor it is possible for the motor to drop oil pressure and as a result starve the journal bearing turbo as they require considerably more oil than the BB cores.

im looking at the garrett cartridge replacements from rotor master in campbellfield. they do a similar job to slide but with garrett ball bearing cartridge and a hi flowed exhaust housinhg.

olts straight back on coz it uses ur stock turbo

I am not going to speculate what happened.

BUT

If you are looking for pieces of the turbine or whether "something went through it" i would be looking at the intake to the FMIC or the pipes leading to it. When pieces fly off the front compressor, they will usually get stuck at the fmic, they don't go to the exhaust side :D.

Looks like exactly what happened to my turbo

didnt even last 3months or 5tho kms, electronic boost controller so no overboosting...

NOTHING at all went through the turbo

wasnt even booting it when it went bang and didnt make boost...

im still trying to get a refund..........................................................................

One would image that if there loosing blades the wheel is possibly being over sped or surging . I can't say with certainty but many found over the years that compressors with lots of blades like 71mm 8 blade T04's don't like high speed high pressure ratio use .

If in that pic it was a complete blade detached from the compressor then its very likely let go at its root and rubbed on the inside of the housing . I reckon that would do all sorts of nasties balance wise and if it managed to jamb between the wheel and housing that would make itself heard .

Cheers .

Well i got a response from Slide and they basically handballed the problem onto the manufacturer of the turbo for me to sort out....thanks guys!

here is a pic of what became of mine....massive shaft play side to side, nothing in the cooler piping and definitely no overboosting!

oh and I used 8mm speedflow fittings for the oil feed over the recommended drilling of the banjo fitting :S just so there were no excuses

dam...

wonder if I should sell my hi-flow and go something else now...

goodluck mate, the bad rep these turbos are getting i'd be surprised if you got a buyer.

same with me Tazz.... i sent mine to GCG and got a very interesting report...

i think some legal action might be required?

same thing here.

GCG have printed me out a report on the receipt of the turbo i got rebuilt by them.

R33GOD, let me know how far you get with getting your turbo repaired.

yeah mate, click on the link in my sig for all the details.

heres a hint... Murnane Motors were the company who REALLY built these turbos.

Thanks for setting everyone straight as to where the warranty obligations lay. There has been far too much confusion in this thread about this subject.

Good job.

Cheers.

i have had my slide highflow on my car for about 10 000 ks now,no problem yet!!sorry to hear about the problems people are having with these turbos!

my engine needs a rebuild now anyway, will be putting in some good forged pistons and conrods in!will now maybe consider putting a bigger turbo on,will diffnately be garrett!these problems are not good, but some guys have really good luck with highflows, one of the guys in the rb25 power dyno

section got 263kw at the rear wheels with the same turbo i got from slide, the max oversize one,so it seems weird that these problems are happening to these turbos, maybe the rush that they had with orders at the start of this year made the people that do the turbos make mistakes with the rush, but that should not happen!!i was lucky i got my turbo before the rush!

    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
