Thanks for coming - Banned.

In NSW a pod filter must be shrouded from the engine bay (to stop it catching fire and making too much 'noise') and must not be of the oiled type.

In any case, what is wrong with the stock filter/airbox? Enlarge the hole and run another intake tract to the airbox or similar.

Boost controller should be legal.

Most mechanics are only an AIS and can only provide pink slips.

AUVIS workshops can clear your defect for you (they also provide blue slips) but they won't risk the fine if you haven't fixed your defect in most cases.

in WA its legal for a pod filter but it has to be an oil type and securely mounted, AFAIK boost controllers arent legal. it gets frustrating with each state having different laws on shit most of the time

And where were you driving? And what were you doing at the time to be pulled over for the cops to "pick on you" ?

Even better, I had to put my car over the pits as it was bought unregistered / recovered vehicle. Pods were passed as soon as they were mounted on sturdy brackets, K&N oiled type on M's adapters non-enclosed. Boost controller and turbo timer were left in but turned off for the initial inspection but was advised by the inspector that they could be left on and it wouldn't be a problem.

Had to get front ball joints replaced and a few other bits done before they would pass it.

Just lucky I guess..

ok people....I didnt clear a defect notice at the RTA without a roadworthy slip im just talking shit for no reason its good for your health im telling you its not illegal if you think otherwise thats up to you

Pods are illegal no matter what!!!!!

Boost controllers are illegal no matter what!!!!!

Where do these people come from????

my son got defected a few weeks ago for a pod filter and fmic this is in sa. was told we needed a full inspection at regency . i rang regency and told them what we got done for his reply was and i quote a pod filter is not a defect if it is mounted with a bracket it does not need to be covered in . the front mount is not a defect and he told us to take it too the local police station and give him a ring at regency he will tell the police neither are defectable items and to clear the defect .

we went to the police station the copper rang they guy at regency 5 mins later we are driving away without the defect had to pay a 29 buck fee for the copper to clear the defect .

we dodged a bullet this time lol as car had other things that would have been picked on if it went over the pits

true story

cheers dean

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
