The only way to accurately measure if you've lost muscle would be dexa scans. Pretty hard to trust even an honest eye, given a 16" bicep can turn into a 15" bicep dropping from 12% to 9% bf, yet retain the same muscle tissue. Fat does make muscle look big, even if it detracts from the shape of it / look of muscle separation!

Ahh looking good in a T shirt versus looking good without the T shirt...the eternal struggle.

Its why I come across as a prick, I genuinely hate what society has become.

Its superficial.

You guys are all talking about choosing. Astounds me, youre not paying attention.

Martin and Max, in my opinion, look better than anyone on this forum and I can guarantee, by their WR, can outlift them. Now I havent seen everyones physiques, so its a silly comment, but you get the jist.

If I am to have a 1000hp GTR, does it have to look like a shitter? Pretty sure it can have nice paint and wheels yet still be fast. Sure, its harder to have both, but so more satisfying.

There are only 3 rules in life

1. Be aggressive

2. Be more aggressive

3. Never be satisfied

Could my guys have achieved their physique without getting stronger? Of course

Could they lift as much and look like crap? Of course

How good though to have a brilliant physique and be stronger, I suppose it makes them the kind of guys you want to avoid at parties when your chatting up chicks

Society today is what has made these 2 standout

They would be decidedly average in the 50's through to the 70's

Nothing people do or dont do today surprises me, nothing. At 51, I reckon I've seen every example of person I never want my sons to be, in and out of the gym.

On our car forums we mock guys with NA cars that are covered in bling. Amazing.

society is what society is.

since being on 5 x 5 my lifts have certainly increased, but my physique has become a lot more sloppy then it was. This is with no change to diet or other habits. I think this routine isnt intense enough, especially for someone who doesnt consider themself to be strong to begin with and require large breaks between sets.

thinking I might change it

Edit*

Have been thinking something simple, full body 3 times a week. Focusing on strength, cardiovascular health and obviously looks.

Wide grip chin ups 3 x to failure

Squats 3 x 10

Bench 3 x 10

Cable Seated Row 3 x 10

Military Press 3 x 10

SLDL 3 x 10

Under grip chin ups? 3 x to failure

Rest is a maximum of 2 minutes per set.

verdict?

It depends Markos - most people these days just want to look like Zyzz clones for example, regardless of strength or how much they can lift. sad but true.

Going to start with your program as of Issue 39 next week, still unsure on what to do on the cardio days though due to the gym not having kettlebells or the room to do things like the Farmer's Walk. Will have to devise something. Got one gym partner on board, the other is full of excuses such as not enough rest time, boring etc etc, what would "some guy in Melbourne" know bla bla bla. Can only lead a horse to water I guess.

BTW what is the difference between the IPF and GPC?

Yeah I don't entirely hate what society has become. Sucks for them, but it allows me to stand out more from the average person, with even less effort.

So I'm content with that part, but you know what properly annoys me? A good body is hard work to get, and most people know this (except those females paranoid about sprouting too much muscle). But it's not THAT hard. No, compared to all the miracle bullshit I see people slowly injecting their time, money and effort into over years and years, for little return in the way of looking, feeling or living better...it's a piece of f**kin piss.

shit cant believe i forgot dips, hmm dips or dip machine

the second set of chins is to compliment the first (because i suck donkey at chins) also more to focus on the gun show, least thats my logical way of thinking....

I've only just started doing weighted dips again the other day (f**king clip on my weight belt just snapped LOL) - used to manage +50kg for 8 reps, now I can only manage 10-11 reps of +30kg. FML.

It'll come back.

what he said!

I'm so excited about gym tonight, I'm getting that 45kg bench again. Did 3 reps of 45kg on decline on Wednesday, so my thinking is I can do at least one again on flat bench, I've done it before!

Trying for 60kg squat tonight too for the first time :)

It'll come back.

Indeed it will - and the best part is I haven't actually lost any noticeable muscle size, which I'm hoping will mean I'm back to constantly overloading the muscles again even with less resistance than previously required.

Probably not how it works, but it's certainly back to being "difficult" and leaving the muscles tender again haha

Man, I haven't been able to train for 2 weeks now due to a bad spell of tonsillitis, and I've been doing around 2 sessions a week only previously. Some sort of illness about 6 times in 8 weeks now. Having some serious withdrawals...

sorry to hear that, hope you can get back into it asap.

I feel your pain.

I haven't been able to train properly for well over 6 weeks. Uni exams, then some weird stomach virus for about 2 weeks, then got back into it for a week and now I'm coming down with a cold.

Have gone so far backwards it aint funny.

Was squatting 140, deadlifting 170 and benching 120 (all 1rm) and now I'd be lucky to get within 20kg of any of those lifts...

You can smash the 45kg L33SH . A 1rm after volume is a sure way to introduce a poor performance. Do a warm up , then the 1rm set and you have the job done.

My caution to you is that the volume routine + a meaningful high load set/s (1rm) = rotator cuff fatigue/stress and injury potential.

Just take care with the bro-press and have fun.

    • Good tips, will get on those tomorrow. When doing the maintenance I did move a few of those connectors around, and things that are old tend to not like moving around. (Like me).
    • Don't try it. It will be shit. Better chance of damaging the engine than gaining any knowledge about the old one. Maybe, but unlikely, especially if the O2 sensor is working. You can use NissDataScan to look at the stock ECU.   Cleaning the AFM is seldom necessary and seldom helps. The R35 coil & loom conversion should eliminate dud coils or plugs. But as you still have misses - look to the plug where the coil loom connects to the engine loom, and the CAS plug. Need quality connections there. Also look to injector plugs. And the AFM plug while you're at it. Also look to whether your injectors are clean and flowing evenly. Get them out and onto a testbench.
    • Good to know, I feel like I am in for a rollercoaster ride that looks like a sine wave.
    • You'll fit right in. Acceptance is the first step.
    • Hey folks. I've been lurking and browsing the forum for a while, since I got into my head that I wanted a skyline. Having purchased an overpriced completely stock GTT, (only "mods" it has is HKS pod filter and catback) now that it became legal in the US, it was all glorious and sututu noises here and there. But then I wanted to do things right and went to do basic maintenance. After all the fluids, filters done, I did the spark plugs, that's when the problems started.. First the car started spluttering at around 4.5k RPM. Which I gapped down the new plugs and that solved the sputter there, but the car now always misfires at idle with pops when lifting off and shifting 2nd to 3rd. Similar to the issues in this recent thread. I've been banging my head against the wall, reading the threads here and trying suggestions for a couple months now, so decided to start this one to explain exactly what I tried and what is going on. The symptoms of the issue: Idle and low revs misfiring intermittently. You can hear the exhaust tone change and the shakes on the shifter knob. It happens frequently, but doesn't seem to have a rhythm to it. Pops when backing off throttle. It pops and or burbles almost feels like it spits fire when it pops. (Happens mostly in 3rd gear at around 2k RPM). When under load and after 6k RPM, it also pops when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. There's a ticking noise at around 2k RPM in 2nd gear going downhill, seems unrelated though but I am out of educated and downright dumb guesses. Not noticeable lack of power when putting the car into load. The attempted diagnosis and solutions: Unplugging coils when the car is running This did nothing to change the idling and tone shift for every cylinder. Checking the exhaust headers with thermometer They all are within what I'd say it is margin of error of the laser thermometer New spark plugs Tossed two new sets, copper, iridium and using the old ones, still misfiring, even re gapped to 0.8mm, still same thing. MAF cleaned with the "specific" spray cleaner No changes in the issues what so ever. Brand new loom and r35 coil conversion (was going to add the r35 coils anyway) car runs arguably better, still misfires, but seems like does less frequently. Placebo? Code 21 now being thrown, thanks nissan gods. Removed the CAS to check the shaft for play or anything. CAS seems all fine, nothing that indicates any issue, visually speaking. Things to attempted next: Ordered a new MAF (chinesium from Amazon, to be able to return regardless of result). Fuel with proper gas, maybe it is this California water that they sell as gas that is to blame? Plugin the link ECU and check the info using the built in base map. Go back to BMW and eat my rob bearing breakfast without milky oil mixture.   Do any of you have experienced anything like this or have any suggestion?
