I have been giving the current fuel situation some thought and i have decided that it is not a refinery problem as we have been told. I now believe this to be a conspiracy to remove imports from the streets! So far they have tried everything, whopping insurance prices, "random" defect stations that only seem to pull up imports and the new hoon laws so they can actually take our cars, but it has not been enough. They are not happy with removing imports one at a time, or banning us from the road for a week or so at a time. Some bright spark has realised that imports run on 98 octane fuel, and most of the public doesnt, so it is my theory that they have removed 98 octane in an attempt to stop all imports. The really sad thing is although a few bootleg supplies are available scattered througout Sydney the supply shortage is infact working and a significant decline in import use is occuring.

Ok, im gunna put my tinfoil hat back on because the aliens are at my front door with a video of who really shot JFK

i was going to the 24hr mobil on the hume highway (m5) at pheasants nest, and yet even that not is OUT OF ORDER! found vortex 98 on blaxland rd campbelltown, although i feel awful putting that shit in my car.

no one could expect this to kill imports, or rather, performance cars. how easy is it to buy octane booster? just inconvenient and a bit pricey.

+1 for the whole situation being ludicrous.

:laughing-smiley-014:

Typical government not thinking this through well though.

I wonder what those XR6 Turbos run like on 91 RON... police will start driving around in Holden Epicas/Daewoo Toscas? :whistling:

Caltex has there own refinary..But they were still putting "out of order" on there pumps so could charge the higher price on the certain days

I found the Pheasant nest didn't have any 98 either.. and the same thing with most of the fuel stations on the way to melbourne expect for one BP out in the middle of nowhere in wangaratta VIC :whistling: still 3 hours out of Melbourne but managed to have 98RON at $1.60 a litre!!!

Sucks if this goes on for a long while..

Too hard to do road trips and having to plot your fuel stops around town..its just f**ked!!

Last time i filled up i put a bottle of octane booster in.Lucky for me i wasnt charged for it.He scanned it before i filled up,while i was filling he served a few customers, when i paid for the fuel he forgot about the octane booster :P

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
