yeah it was a sign of things to come :)

for us modern folk what's 476hp in kw?

nice work mate, though it may be about 470hp more than you can handle sunshine :P

edit: figured it out, about 350rwkw. not too shabby.

470hp more than he can handle?

or 470hp, more than he can handle?

lol

ps. congrats steveo! drive safe!

ah finally a power figure :)

Congrats..... I thinks that power will satisfy you for all of say a month !!!

btw... any more boost left in the turbo out of curiousity??? or is it at its peak???

But this at least makes me get off my ass and get my final tune done..... 306rwkw just isn't the same as it was last month !!! You were right I need more boost!!! Looks out, my lil 25 is chasing your figure ;)

Shaun will no doubt post up what he thought in detail...

May as well

Yeah, the wet-road acceleration in 2nd and 3rd gear is best described as 'hilarious', at least thats the effect it had on us. lol

It's a fairly tractable engine- You can feel the torque curve really starting to swell just before 3500rpm, then it gets more serious at 3800, and goes absolutely manic from 4000... and flings the needle from there to 7000 in a blink while all four tires break traction in the wet :)

It should be an epic thing in the dry; a real workout for the neck muscles. If it ever stops raining for more than 30 minutes at a time, that is =P

It's going to require an ECU change to run the last 5 or so pounds of boost that the turbo can run efficiently, but I reckon that, combined with cams and a better intercooler and some silicone lower hoses should see around 550rwHp (410rwkW) without too much trouble. That would only take the injectors to ~90% duty cylcle too, which leaves plenty of safety margin.

Time for that dry-sump setup now...

Got the obligatory shot of the manifold glowing tomato-red during some constant load tuning-

Good stuff Steve. 2 years is a hell of a long time to wait. Ive waited 6 months so far with my car, thats bad enough!

We need specs,i know they are here somewhere but please jog our memories. :)

nah can't

gotta study and pack.

Weak

Good work, Steve-O! It's nice to see it come to fruition after all this time of us bagging you out!

Sure is! - Cheers

NICE ONE STEVO!!!! Congrats on finally getting in done....

Yeah, finally :( - It had 240hp when we rocked up, so thats what it had when it was at your last

Yeah its cranking along, almost at daves figure (only 30kw more to go), but he has cams and cam gears etc so ill do the same and try and match his crazy thing ;)

5 psi left in it, but cause its on stock cams and gears i figured its got a fair bit more to do before using the last 5psi, i want 400kw at the treads for this car. Next car will have a bit more but use a to4z with a huge rear housing and stay 2.6L

You DO need more boost, but you also may need more traction ;) Which is something i dont have to worry about

Thats cool, chase mine ;)

I was definitely laughin in the car tonight and not from excitement. I said come back when it's dry and then I might stop trying to push my feet through the floor.

lol, scared much?

congrats steve. looks good.

wheres my thanks ya bastard? i help put the engine stand together that day aaron copped a crow bar to the face.

Forgot, updated

haahahah almost 500hp atw.......that is insane....good shit steve-o

it will get to about 550hp at the treads before im finished with it :(

so the important thing

it does good skidz ya?

lol, we'll see on saturday i guess :)

I know its not afraid to get the oversteer happening

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
