I was thinking of doing it this way for my build. what PSI would you set on compressor? also would you use a torque wrench to test the bolt afterwards?

threadlocker?

cheers

rob

What ever the air tool manual recommends (usually 90psi). I wouldnt use a threadlocker on the bolt personally. I mean, the nissan manual suggests you use oil which is the opposite of a threadlocker so if they feel confident that it will hold then so do I :P

As for the testing afterwards then yeah sure if you have a way to lock the motor then go for it. But knowing the strength of most decent rattle guns ide say you would be overtightening if you went any more.

I was thinking of going into Nissan and asking them if theyve got any info in this issue.

By the way, the new bolts from Nissan are $8.50!

Shaun.

Give it a go but every nissan mechanics are not exactly the pinnacle of brain power i have found.

I know exactly what you mean. Every time i go to Gosford Nissan for a part, they ask me for a fcuking VIN number! As soon as they hear you say 'Skyline' their care factor goes to zero. I actually quite enjoy pissing them off when asking for obscure parts.

Hornsby Nissan, however, are awesome. They'll do anything for you.

Strange, 2 pages down from that diagram, theres this...

Is that 446Nm for the crank pulley bolts?

Hi there, you all most likely know this already but for the record, the use of oil on threads of bolts to be torqued (to any value) is to avoid getting false torque settings due to "thread binding" before the bolt/nut has pulled down to achieve the stated torque setting. Regarding thread locker liquids, provided the threads (male/female ~ bolt/crank) are clean & free of binding media then I reckon liquid thread locker of the correct grade will do as a lubricant & provide some insurance after correct "pulldown" on this particular critical fastener. Thread lock compounds do not activate until all oxygen is excluded from the mating metal to metal surfaces. (thread faces) I refer to the Locktite range of products. Having said all that there are locking solutions in the Locktite range to do many different jobs, studlock/bearinglock/threadlock (several grades) select carefully.

Regarding the correct setting, the originator of the ATI harmonic balancer group buy is as stated on this forum getting his balancer installed by "dirtgarage", Red R racing?. Perhaps this fine gentleman could have the final say on the relevant Nm settings for RB25/RB26 before we start.

My 2c.

Cheers GW

PS: I absolutely hate drilling out snapped bolts/easy-outs. Even worse than housework! :D

Bump.

And.........whether the crank bolt is left or right hand thread?

Cheers GW

I always thought the correct torque setting for the rb26 balancer was VFT?

Double hammer rattlegun at warp 4 on full charged air reciever? :( C'mon Mr dirtgarage, I think you could help & you owe me one I reckon.

Owe you one?...were you not the fella that accused me of lieing to you? Over the sale of a Power FC..Then i proved to you that i wasn't?....I think you may owe me one. (or was that someone else with a 260?)

150Nm with ARP lube on the bolt and both sides of the washer....then 1/2 a turn more with a piece of pipe over the torque wrench handle....So Duncan was correct...VFT

Why don't you ask Sydneykid?...he thinks he knows everything...lol

Is this for RB25 Sir? Or both 25 & 26?

Cheers GW

PS: Put the gloves away champ. I'm the guy that thort he was buying your fronts & dumps. My bad as I said then but I did wait patiently for you to make up your mind as to whether you were actually selling anything at all & at that time I did say that it would cost you down the track with technical information as my project progressed. (which were why I purchased your parts) I can post up the pm's if you like.

Peace brother, I will call on you again down the track no doubt.

Sorry Graham...i DID have you confused with another 260 guy...my mistake. The guy i had you mixed up with is from Melb. with a very similar username. Actually it wasnt even that close..it was MyStag260

feel free to call on me anytime mate.

we did my crank bolt up VFT and it still managed to come loose and damage key way, and also bolt damage..

Autosport came to the rescue!

i think the rattle gun was on warp 10 that night and everything was very clean when assembled..

No worries & thanks for the info. I take it that the suitably lubed bolt/washer @ 150nm + 1/2 turn with enforcer bar (for all the ATI group buy guys) is for RB25 & 26

+1 for the VFT torque setting..

the highest torque setting ive seen on any import that was legit is 300NM for 1 of the bolts in the subaru 6speed gearbox.. subaru supply there mechanics with a 3/4inch torque wrench that can do up to 600NM for that 1 bolt... f**king awesome tool!

    • You can use your VIN to look up the factory part number somewhere like amayama, and then look to order new if necessary. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan Depending on price you might want to rebuild instead. @GTSBoy I had an interesting insight into US market parts when the Titan rear calipers were sticking. New calipers were dirt cheap, about 20% more than a rebuild kit....they are just considered throw away maintenance items

    • Lots of votes for driving onto a plank first; that is the quickest way I've found, 25mm is enough for my case but that will vary by car It also depends where you are going for. On the 32 I can get to the rear diff with my floor jack if I do that end first, and get it up on stands. Then I lift the front from either front tow hook as high as needed, also onto stands. Sometimes I need a small lift on the other tow hook to get it level enough If I do the front first I can't get to the rear diff because of the angle of the car Other options are getting to the front mount of the rear subframe from in front of the wheel (if only lifting one side, or just do both which is a bit of a pain compared to one lift from the diff), or also the gearbox cross member mount on the driver's side if you are  just trying to lift the driver's side. I This is the jack I use; it says 75mm clearance but of course that is only on the lower section so if you have to reach too far in like the diff you still get stuck. https://www.snapon-bluepoint.com.sg/category/Floor-Jacks/product/Floor-Jack,-2-Ton-Low-Profile

    • Ok so i will NEED to have this sensor anyway even with Nistune (or standalone ECU) https://justjap.com/products/genuine-nissan-boost-pressure-sensor-evap-control-system-fits-nissan-r34-skyline-c34-nm35-stagea-pnt30-x-trail-rb25det-vq25det-sr20vet?currency=AUD&srsltid=AfmBOoqfxX48bW9bEwH62orcNhtBfp7ekAL0C9Ca89ySFGUiBzXfXeze Is this the correct one? And this is only thing i need? No other "things" connected to the sensor or something? I do have the wiring.
