Outright Classic allows ABS? Apparently. What a joke and what will some 'competitors' do to win.

spot on, and that is the tip of the iceberg in classic. all before the cheating even starts.

tells you all you need to know about that competition.

speaking of classic, sav how did you end up in early modern instead of classic? Was that because Marlin Ben upset the porsches a few years back? great work this year in what was probably the cheapest car in the event

I started my car 1-2 months after wooster ran his car in classic, then we were kicked out, and ABS was restricted to cars that it was avaliable on when new. Most peoples (and mine) guess is that Rex complained that a cheap datsun was beating his $300,000 Porsche. There was talk that there is external video evidance of Rex's wheels doing the ABS shuffle this year.

A journo I was talking to, said he was talking to another compeditor about my car and the position I was in, in a cheap 2wd. And they responded by telling him how my car is a huge $$ car and has had heeeeeaps of development. I had to laugh considering I'd run on one of the smallest budgets in EM, if not the field.

mr druncan you know that porka drvers are not allowed to be upset

lol... got to love motorsport, cheating and protests from shit drivers who cheat more than everyone else

love it!!!!!!!!!

Was someone running a hiclone ?

i loved the look of his AM diffuser but how it didnt smash every time he gassed it i will never know. Speed boat anyone.

at the end of the day this event is what it is and sheep stations are neither won or lost because of results, every one wins a prize for a reason and winning the event doesnt give you new found glory, but does bring the bitches.

if you arent enjoying the car your in and the challenge infront of you than you will have a bad week and a empty pocket.

If your enjoying the car, the team, the friends and the adventure then the position you finnish is irrelevant. im sure if Sav thought about the likely hood of actually beating R34 GTRs than he would stop running his car but he turns up for the fun of it all. not the bitches.

bring on next year.

..............................................

My reliable source says that there was no dispute that the porkchop's ABS was fitted and working but, you know, 'winning' so many times is good publicity so......................

I'm not sure what your tryin to say, but fu k it, group reach arounds for everyone!

"If your enjoying the car, the team, the friends and the adventure then the position you finnish is irrelevant"

Of course the enjoyment and participation is the most important part but rolling over to cheaters is OK?

i loved the look of Hendys after market diffuser but how it didnt smash every time he gassed it i will never know. [bbecause ]the car was so low and soft in the back it looked like a speed boat[/b].

winning isn't everything

Ben is dreaming if he thinks he can beat the R34's and/or get bitches

bring on next year.

translated for Ben

At least this year cars were getting stroke tested mid event, it's a move in the right direction. But Rex's ABS has been an ongoing issue for 3 years now

Ah, ok, thanks Benny M.

I noticed the Hendy rear diffuser, looked cool. I dunno how it survived either given the low rea rend.

Stroke testing was VERY welcome. I know some competitors were very gratified that the testing was done. It vindicated their results. Why some people insist on stroking their cars when it's plainly obvious they can't drive for shit escapes me. Spend the money on driving lessons champ.

Re the ABS issue. I don't want to go into a big discussion over it because I get along with and really rate the bloke in question, but I have a long conversation with him and he stated that, while he does have the ABS fitted to the car, he switches it off. I was taking a breath to reply, "yes but surely you switch it on too?" when he quickly added "but but but I also remove the wiring harness to the ABS unit". Take from that what you will.

I'd like to express my gratitude to Messrs Perry and Benson for putting on an awesome Targa. I even enjoyed the two nights in Strahan! Rinadeena in the semi-dry on the way in was a stage of beauty. And new STi's are GOOD THINGS! Me and my mate Rhino really enjoyed our split roles this year. We're still smiling!

I really enjoyed Rinadeena in my Kia Grand Chancellor mini motel service barge too, although I'm sure the STI might have been just a touch more enjoyable. YT's service crew overtook me like I was going backwards though, that must be where the other spare Lambo engine is kept?

I had a busy week looking after a couple of Porsches of the front engined type, but both finished 10th in their respective competitions (Classic & EM). Leigh in Classic did most of day 3 only using the handbrake after a disc rotor failure and no spare- so a super effort that!

Congrats to the organisers for what looked like a gruelling event, 34 wet stages in the end?

The wife enjoyed the Zero car gig too, bright blue race suits and all!

As Jim Richards said on the 2001 Targa tape I watched last night, "You spend 5 days racing, on the 6th you are glad its over, and on the 7th you start planning for next year" So this being the case, 2 days after the event we heard of a DR30 that was raced in Targa 2001 and has been idle ever since. Negotiations are in place and it should be heading to our shed soon. This is probably the only DR30 that has ever done the event, and it is exactly as it finished except for paint..Looking forward to getting it here, let the planning begin...

I was only watching the 2001 tape the other night, and saw the DR30. I was extracing infomation from those in the know at the targa bar on sun night, to fix the rear end on a DR30.

    • Well, the trouble with that ^^ is: The configuration shown is absolutely a 1-way, not a 1.5-way. There is no way that a 1.5-way can be said to offer LSD action only on acceleration. If Nismo cannot get that right, then it is impossible to believe their documentation. That ^ is not a 1.5 way setup. That is a 1-way.   And so now I have allowed all doubts to flourish and have gone back to look at the MotoIQ video. I originally made the mistake of believing him when he said "this is a 1.5-way" at the ~6:10 mark. Because what he did was take the gear assembly out of the 2-way opening and just rotate it one place to the left to drop it into the 1-way opening. When he dropped it in there, the cam was "backwards" compared to the correct orientation shown in all other photos of that config. The flat shold have been facing the 1° ramp side of the opening, not the 55° ramp side. And I thought, "gee that's cute", but I was concerned at the time, when he put the other ring back on, that the gap between the rings looked like it was wider then in the 2-way config. And then I said a lot of things in my long post on Tuesday that could only make sense if the guy from MotoIQ was correct about what he'd done. BUT... I have now done my homework. I grabbed a frame of the video with the 2-way config, and then grabbed another with the "1.5-way" config, snipped out the cam and opening of that frame and just pasted it direct on top of the 2-way config. I scaled it so that the triangular opening was almost exactly the same height in both. AND.... the gap between the plates is wider with the cam installed in the triangualr opening backwards. That is.... it cannot go together that way. There would be massive force on the plates all the time, if you could even reassemble it.  So, My statement on the matter? The Nismo diff is actually only a 2-way and 1-way. There is no 1.5-way option in it, regardless of what they say. Here's a photo of a real 1.5-way ramp opening from Cusco (along with the 1 way option). And the full set of 1 through 2 way options from their racing diff, which is not same-same as what we'd typically be using, but...the cams work the same. A little blurry, but it comes from this Cusco doc, which is quite helpful. AND.... Cusco do in fact do what I suggested would be sensible, which is to have rings that do 1 and 1.5, and 1.5 and 2. Separately.
    • Welcome Adam. Car looks great!
    • "With a 1.5-WAY, the LSD is effective only during acceleration."
    • Well it wasn't as easy as I thought.... and it also wasn't in my original manual which I did end up finding. They discuss the process in the Nismo catalogue though and it requires slight machining. Page 145.  NISMO PARTS CATALOGUE 2020
    • I'm an idiot, my intercooler is rated for 1000hp. I had clicked on the wrong product. Knowing the delta P would be nice, but I'm doubtful I'll do it. Now as for an EMAP, that would be great and I'll get around to it eventually but from my findings in my last post, I'm considering a turbo swap now.
