as above, i have bought 6.5" splits, believing that they were the same size as the factory front speakers.

i have just pulled off the door trim and the woofer cone is just too big to fit into the black speaker holder thing stuck to the door trim.

what to do? :S i splashed $400 on focal splits so buying newbies is NOT an option..

cheers guys

Ric

Too big as in too deep? The magnet is hitting the door?

Mine were like that (MBQuarts, not cheap either) so some spacers were made up... You're going to have to make some spacers no matter if it's depth or not cause it's not fitting as standard...

not too deep, the cone diameter wouldn't fit in the factory spacer. so all the people on here who have said that the car came stock with 6.5" splits were high?

and the so-called 'expert' where i bought the speakers telling me they will fit no dramas.. grrr..

anyway thanks for your help buddy, at least i know theres a way of making them fit.

Ric

i just put a set of 6.5' focal splits in the front doors in my r33 s2 96 and they go very hard and sound great, i put a set of 6.5' twoway alpine R in the back side panel too, and a set right at the back too. 6x 6.5" speakers = 600watts rms just with speakers

back panel pics, i was bored so i thought i would give it ago

check out the 'installing speakers into skyline doors tutorial' at the top of the car audio and security page. Its pretty much what i did except i made the mdf spacers longer (exactly the same shape as the factory ones) so i could put the plastic plate on (as this is what blocks off the trays in the door trim). Hope that made sense

done the same thing with my panels dont have pics but looks great and different.

im assuming it wont fit into the black moulded peice in the door. just trim it mate and drill new holes its what i did and they fit fine :D

yeah ended up getting out the angle grinder and shaving the sides a bit... just got it to fit. pain in the ass though!

btw focal speakers KICK ASS!! no sound deadening and still pumps fair hard..

When you put your tweeters in don't put them in that little triangle bit next to the window, do this instead,

med_gallery_47680_2598_13942.jpg

just need to mark it out and cut it with some snips or use a hole saw on a drill.

and Skylineboy84's idea kicks ass, I'm doing that someday!

Hey man quick question, what size are ur woofers..6"..or 6.5"...cas my speaker covers dont fit the OE door grilles.

Also how did u mount ur speakers to ur door?

Cheers...good job by the way.

6"s

Someone else pulled out the stock grills to put some crappy speakers in and they did a really hack job, so a had to mark out the alpine grill and snip out the door skin to make it fit without showing the door skin.

The speaker itself is mounted in the factory plastic speaker mount behind the door skin and the speaker grill is on the door skin. So theres a 1" to 2" gap between them.

I have got some hertz 6.5inch spilts on the front with stock pods

Just basically had to trim a bit off the sides etc.

They deff fit. Just try and trim a bit off

Heres what i did few years ago: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Sp...-H-t103289.html

When we did our Project car we worked out the factory speakers are actually 6-3/4" (oversize) which are 17cm speakers. Pioneer make a direct replacement if you don't want to stuff around with chopping and grinding and re-use the standard black insert and speaker grille.

so if 6-3/4" speakers fit into the factory speaker housing, why did my 6.5" ones not?

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
    • Bloody apprentices! 🙄
    • Not sure yet.  Was considering speedtek because it was rated to 800hp, but when I did some research about him I don't think I will go for that🤣 So maybe giken gear set, but I'm afraid it won't be strong enough🙄
