I’d like to announce an addition to the SAU-Vic Motorsport Championship.

Sunday 9th November – Phillip Island will be added to the championship as the eighth round. The motorsport committee has decided because of the loss of two rounds we would like to make this addition. The championship was originally comprised of seven rounds. But in actual fact, even with the edition of Phillip Island we ultimately will only be competing in six rounds.

Morewell – 10th May was cancelled due to the old hill climb track being decommissioned and relocated.

Calder – 5th July was cancelled due to becoming financial unviable for the WRX club to run. Calder Park have significantly increased their hire fee’s this year and it was going to end up costing around $350 per entrant to run this event. Which I’m sure we all agree is not worth it.

The event on Sunday 9th of November is run by the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC) www.piarc.com.au and will be a timed sprint day. PIARC also run an untimed practice day on the Saturday (8th Nov)

Many club’s and days were considered, but the PIARC day was chosen as our best option from a club championship perspective because its everyone’s favourite track, everyone will get a spot that wants to come and the price

is good usually good at $140. We know the track gets busy at these events but given half the SAU crew are probably going to attend this event regardless it seems like the best option.

Hehe, it will be my one and only day this year :D I may get out there on 21/22 September but dont know. Jack, can you PM me your email address. The old girl needs a tow from workshop to workshop to workshop getting some work done, ready for a triumphant comeback, ready to ... crash again :)

can we just do the practice day or do you have to compete both days?

Of course you can just do the practise day. But as far as the SAU Club Championship goes only the Sunday counts obviously (since there is no timing on the Saturday).

cool. How does it work with $$ though? Does the $140 (or whatever it will be) cover the practice day and sunday timed day? Or is $140 each day?

Feck Troy, imagine we both got our cars ready for this day... I think the world would stop turning on it's axxis and we'd all vanish into a black hole... or some such nonsense

lol. Yep, but your car is cool and will be a weapon when it makes it title fight return to the ring. Mine is just getting some fresh bushes and wheels etc. So will still be pushing shit uphil with my index finger with regards to imroving times ;) LOL, i will die trying for my 1:21.4 with an RB20 at Sandown. Have to beat Scotsman's GTR times :O

My car should be quick in theory, if not for the schmuck behind the wheel! lol

I've got a long way to go to catch you mate... but chasing the GT-R's should keep the motivation going :D

Shane: It'll be good to get another S13 out there, should be some good battles

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
