Which Stroker Kit

I'm seriously torn on if i should buy a stoker kit for my rb26 or just build it and leave at it a 2.6L. My question is whats the best kit on the market. I still want to be able to rev it out if I ever feel the need .... :D . I was looking into the HKS Kit but I'm not sure what step to get or if I should go with a completely different kit from someone like JUN, Tomei, OS Giken, or Brian Crower.

Now I'm from the US but have taken a lot of notice to the cars from Croydon Racing Developments. I want to keep the twin turbo setup, but I want to go bigger.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated seeing as to how its kinda hard for me to find information here in the states.

It depends on what you're going to be doing with the car, what works best for a 1/4 mile may not have the response, or revability, you would desire on the track/street. I personally would stick with the stock bore and stroke, they love the revs and with the correct turbo selection, and tuning, you can make very usable power.

the best 2.8 imo is the HKS step 3. but it's pretty exy. second to that would be the tomei with cooling channel pistons, then after that HKS step2, then the step 1 HKS and the regular tomei are about even.

a properly built HKS Step 3 kit will still give you plenty of revs.

I can't even find a price on a HKS Step 3 LoL. All the stuff I find is in jap. writing. Do you know of any place down there that I can order one from?

HKS stopped making the Step 3 kit over a year ago. I can only sell you the Step 2 or 1 these days. The only way you will purchase the last Step 3 kit is to buy the complete HKS R33 Drag long motor I have for sale. It's a spare that was built for the R33 Drag Car that retired before needing this engine. If anyone is serious about it enquire to [email protected]

Otherwise the HKS 2.8 gives more capacity than the rivals if you are going to stroke it and will happily see the revs required to make the RH9 club.

THis is easy

If you money was not a concern i would get the Os Giken 3.0lt. and pair of HKS GT-RS turbos for all the mombo jumbo power you can eat. Cost=30K

But if you live in a reality world and know how expensive it all can add up (all the supporting mods) I would stick to the orginal proven 2.6lt (nissan thought so too for over 10 yrs) and build it stronger and stick in some HKS GT-SS or for bit more power GT2530 turbos for a well rounded car. Cost=10K

Ill start by saying listen to the guys who've built them moreso that dreamers like me who are still planning and saving haha.

But ive done a bit of research on the whole subject

I want to keep my engine as revvy and true to the original formula as possible, so im planning a overbored built motor, with standard stroke, so something around 268x cc.

If i had the cash (im an automotive engineering student = no cash) id be looking at one of the fully counterbalanced jap stroker kits so 2.6 or 2.7.

Anything bigger, HKS 2.8, that magnificent aussie made 2.9 that ive seen of the forums, or the OS Giken 3.0 are fantastic for grunt but ...i dunno...not quite what i want, dont know why.

I like wringing my engines out, always rowing throught the gears. If you dont maybe a 2.8+ is the way to go.

I think its a good idea to have a shortlist of bottomends that you would be happy with, and be on the lookout for the best price/deal.

trust me there is no problem with revs in the HKS 2.8s I have witnesssed in japan. and been in. they all revv'd very nicely. :)

RB30s yes, HKS RB28 still retains almost all of that nice revvy nature of the 26.

im also planing to go stoker kit for my r34. my goal is 400-450kw's @ all wheels. i was looking at the HKS 2.8 but i think the tomei one is better? and the RB30 doesnt like high rpm

i heard sumone on the forum sayn about destoke rb30 cranks to fit rb26 which makes it a 2.9L????

Not going to vote because I've not purchased/used ANY stroker kit as of yet... However I anticipate going for the Tomei kit, I've got an RB25 and I intend on keeping it, and the NVCT, that way, I can get some Poncams to slip in nicely and still work with the NVCT, and the stroker kit itself has been tested by Tomei to work with the RB25 as well...

Mind you, you've got an Rb26 so none of this is really relevent.. Just dropping my 2cents.. :)

    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
