Hi All,

Some of you may or may not know me, I'm a member of SAU Vic and compete in club level motorsport as well as Dutton Rallies, in addition to that I work for Unique Cars Magazine.

At Unique Cars we have just signed a partnership for an event which gives club level drivers the ability to race against one another in the same vehicles, over a two day event for a total of $1,000,000 in prize money. First place prize is $500,000 and it scales back to $25,000 for sixth place. The organisers have previously run this event in America with huge success, there are also no proffessional drivers allowed.

Unique Cars is very excited to be involved in this and I'm sure a lot of you will be interested in participating.

We will be giving away a free entry in Unique Cars so keep your eyes on the magazine from January Issue to go into the draw to win a free entry.

The media release has just been put together and here are the details, please feel free to call Jason (Details below) at any time for further info, mention that you heard about it from Unique Cars and your club forum as he is monitoring the response to this:

AUSTRALIA’S RICHEST MOTORSPORT EVENT

From the 4th - 5th April 2009, Wakefield Park Raceway will welcome 300 challengers competing for the chance to share in an unprecedented $1,000,000 in prize money.

The inaugural Million Dollar Driver Challenge will be Australia’s richest premier motor sport event for amateur drivers.

Unlike other motor sport events, The Million Dollar Driver Challenge is unique in that it will pit drivers against each other in identical track-prepared Subaru WRX’s to showcase the drivers’ true skill and ability.

The 2 day event will provide drivers with the opportunity to display their talents through both timed track sessions as well as challenging gymkhana courses to test their speed, flair, agility and car control.

Use of the track-prepared Subaru WRX, service crew, safety equipment, track facilities and catering is all included in the entry fee of $12,390 + GST.

In addition, entrants who pay their deposit of $3,500 by 15th December 2008 will automatically go into the draw to win a brand new Mercedes Benz C63 AMG sedan, which will be drawn as part of the prize giving at the conclusion of the event on Sunday 5th April 2009.

Prize money is on offer from 1st – 6th place:

1st Place = $500,000

2nd Place = $250,000

3rd Place = $100,000

4th Place = $75,000

5th Place = $50,000

6th Place = $25,000

All good points, thread has been "cleaned up".

Further posts on topic only thanks, and anyone who has an issue with SAU trader rules can take it up with Christian - snide posts do not help.

*Disclaimer*

I have nothing personally to do with the organisation of this event and The company I work for has no financial interest in this event at all. It did come accross my desk from a work collegue so I thought it may be relevent here on a Motorsport forum.

I have put contact details of the event organiser for you to contact in my first post, should you be interested in further info.

I'm as skeptical as some of you in regards to getting 300 entries with a 12k entry but am not going to judge, if it happens it happens.

If this event is not relevent to SAU Motorsport, I'm more than happy to delete the whole thing or one of the Mod's can do it.

Have a nice day. :P

How many cars would they need if they had 300 drivers?

How do you know that the HP of all the cars are the same?

What if your car isn't performing as well as the others, do you get your money back?

I would suggest it would work in the same priciple as the Louts Challenge thing did a few years ago. If you aren't fimiliar with that what they did was they offered a chance where you could pay $X (can't remember but was about $3K) at 3 different state venues for a competition in either the Lotus Elise or the Exige Cup cars (was more $$$ for the Exige one obviously). During the day they had 6 cars and the competition was such that over the weekend you had to drive in all 6 cars with I think the combined best time from all of the cars you drove determining the winner. The top 5 from each state went off to a finals thing and the winner in each class (Elise and Exige) got a fully paid for drive in the Lotus Cup challenge the next year.

But my bet would be that if there were X number of cars you would have to rotate through all of the cars, rather than just using the same one for the whole competition to make sure there were no "his car is faster than mine" cry babies.

Yep- its sounding like another take on the Chance of a Lifetime concept, most recently run by MoPro a few years back.

I had a go at it in a Daewoo and it was pretty fair- you rotated through the cars throughout the day to make sure noone had a power advantage.

Big entry, but a bloody awesome prize for whoever pulls it off.

Wish I had a lazy 13 grand and some driving talent lying around >_<

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
