"On a worked engine like this, using very close to -5 turbos, I'd estimate around the 3800-4100rpm range. Once up in the revs and racing, boost will be there full time."

What fuel did they run in Group A racing?

whats your definition of "full use" how exactly do u define "full use" on the street?

-5s are the biggest you would go on a 2.6L engine, anything bigger is gonna be rubbish

if your worried about response but still want decent power, get some GT-SS's or -9s

full use as in not waiting till 4000 RPMfor boost to come on, Next thing you know your at 180kph,

-9's seem the way to go, 350kw would still be achievable with -9's and supporting mods.

thats probably why Paul recommended a stroker if u wanna go the dash -5s

but yes -9s will do 350rwkw with the correct supporting mods

If you don't want to wait then its -9s

Read the 300-330rwkw thread mate, there is simply soooo much info. No need to talk about it in this thread.

Read the existing ones, they have more than enough information for you.

GTFO with your 300kw talk.

+1 Dave. So sick of the "how do I raise my boost for free" shit threads and people wanting mega power on a shoestring budget lately!

How's your setup coming along for power cruise? Give us some good news!!!

N1GTR if you had bugger all cash would you settle for stock power? Or would you get as much as you could get?

I think what Steve (n1gtr) is saying these engines have been deveolped since 1989 and there is no magical cure for power for nothing , ive owed 5 gtr's over the years and things have gotten cheaper but getting power and moding a gtr/rb26 is not cheap you can get good power fairly easily / relitively cheap , but go over certain power and prepare to get wallet raped !my 2c

^pretty much exactly my point. Horsepower isn't free, and as Aaron mentioned there comes a point at which these cars go from a reliable fun toy which doesnt cost much to an all out black hole for money. Spending within a persons means is fine-good on people who do that, but I'm not talking about them, I'm talking about the increase in people who for example bolt on a highflow turbo, fmic, injectors etc then won't spend money on a quality ecu or quality tune and wonder why the car drives like crap.

Anyway, this is off topic, anyone in this thread with 400kw plus understands the expense and is under no illusion that certain things can't be done on the cheap :)

Exactly right, Aaron. I know more than a handful of GTR's that had $80-$100K spent on them to get over 400kw 20 years ago.

These days it is fairly easy to get 350-400kw on a low budget. Chase 500kw+ and things start to add up fairly quickly.

If you keep the power at a moderate level it should be sustainable. Then again, u hear of ppl popping engines with less than 300kw but many variables come into play such as poor tune. These work horse engines are 20+ yrs old hence a refesh should take place...whilst you are at it, u may as well set aside 20k for a solid donk with more powaaaaaa

HaHa , think im one of those 20years ago people , but like steve said anyone that has done it knows and people that have done it are just trying to help the virgins !

Getting some stuff done at Speedfab, should be back at JEM by the end of the week to get all bolted up.

Cutting it fine as usual.

    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
