Bush Fires-narre North & Surrounding Areas

Recommended Posts

I was kicking back at home around 3ish when i got thick smell of smoke wafting through the house. Stepped outside only to see a shitload of smoke. I went for a drive 5 mins up the road and came across 'Elvis' filling up.

The amount of water that thing sucks up is unbelievable. I could literally see the water level drop every singe time.

i live in lalor, not far from the edge so you can say on the end.

as i hit the "fast reply" button that water carrier thingo flew overhead. going towards wallan.

god its loud

be on your feet dude, just heard on 3aw . 6houses are gone down there in narre south.

just saw that chopper over my house in keysborough about 20mins ago

I was on the western port fwy earlier and could see all the smoke near the high voltage power lines.

I could hear sirens non stop about 20 mins ago but it seems to have subsided.

Also earlier today i spotted a 180 on fire outbound on the Monash just before stud road.

When i was coming back from chadston earlier i went past a spot with the remains of something that was burnt there and a guy in white sitting on the side of the road not looking real happy.

It's now dark & i'm paranoid cause i cannot see where the smoke is etc!

The flames are what you have to worry about and you will see them better now, my mum and nephews are in traralgon and apparently traralgon is surrounded by fires.

And the flying embers.... :P I lived in Macedon when the Ash Wednesday fires went through, and I've seen embers fall from the sky like rain, and the start even more fires!

Bushfire's are mad and crazy beast, don't ever treat them lightly!

Take care everyone near these fires!

Oh my God,

Only this morning everything was ok now there are 14 confirmed dead and the number could reach up to 40!!! 100+ houses got destroy...., RIP.

yeah i heard at 7pm when the first report of fires in bendigo started. 5hours later at 11pm they lost 42homes.

they were ready for another ash wednesday, but fire and wind, its bloody unreal.

BRING BACK STONEING FOR FIRE BUGS !

Very sad and worrying 24 hours :D

My brothers mates parents are all in Yarram with a few losing their homes. The fire reached the edge of my g/f's parents Vineyard on the Hyland Hwy but turned on the edge of the property we are hearing. The access is still closed off so unconfirmed. Also unable to get hold of them for nearly 2 hours as the lines were all down and no mobile reception adding to the worry. One of his mate's mum works with the choppers in the area so was able to give updates from mid afternoon yesterday yet the Herald Sun didnt report it until nearly 10pm getting to Yarram. She had lived in the area all her life so every property is pretty much personally known making it even more devastating.

However, g/f's dad's friend who owns a huge hotel in Marysville lost it all yesterday. News reports are saying that only the bakery is left in Marysville.

Flew back in from Syd this morn after Top Gear and the scale of devastation and smoke is monumental.

Hope no one else has to go through this

However, g/f's dad's friend who owns a huge hotel in Marysville lost it all yesterday. News reports are saying that only the bakery is left in Marysville.

They've just shown overhead views of Marysville in a news report on the ABC and it's virtually all gone. Kinglake is apparently much the same. Many, many burnt out cars are being found on the roads and this is where many dead might be found.

Very sad to see those people in Narre Warren interviewed. One minute they were watching TV, and the next their house and virtually everything else they own is gone.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
