unique1
Im looking into a race seat for my skyline track only car and its got to be a fixed back and fixed rail arrangement, i am using the car for circuit, drags and possibly abit of drift work too. I am wanting to limit the budget to around the $1200 mark if possible, ill go abit more if its worth it. Im also pretty slim so tighter seats are no problems either. I'd prefer a good quality one that wont wear through the fabric in 3 months time too. I am looking at brands like OMP, Sparco, Cobra, etc as they seem to be well known brands in race gear from what i can tell. i dont know whether its worth going one with the wings to protect the head as im thinking it might create a problem with visability when drifting, but if anyone has experience on the subject that would be even better. ok here are a few options i have found so far... Sparco Circuit Sparco PRO2000 Sparco EVO3 Cobra Sukuka Standard OMP Pista OMP WRC OMP GRIP anyone have any personal experience with these seats or anything they can reccomend (something around my budget) for a pretty serious track drivin car? DCIEVE
Another option is racetech and I'd say anything with wings would be over the 1200mark. My last fixed back was pretty uncomfortable so I'd be heading to a few places that carry stock (ie gogear) and pick the one that you fit the best. BBGTR
Sparco PRO2000anyone have any personal experience with these seats or anything they can reccomend (something around my budget) for a pretty serious track drivin car? I have used one of these for the last 4 years and it's been terrific. Car sees regular track work and a bit of daily driving as well. Can't go wrong. Duncan
Or...you could buy a paid of ADR approved OBX seats for about 500 and spend the other 700 on making the car go quicker. extensively crash tested and comfortable enough to live with for 8 hours a day 6 days straight at targa. Not sure why such expensive seats are so popular to be honest. I sat in a Sparco Evo recently and the amount of flex it showed in corners was alarming (I'm sure it's safe and fully tested, but it is now way as solid as a steel seat). Give me a solid seat that is going to hold me in the right place in a crash any day. Tektrader69
Why havent you looked at an Aussie made Velo seat? I had issues with almost all the seats I sat in. Including Sparco etc etc I spoke to Velo and they did a few mods on one of their stock seats and hey presto now it fits great. Velo do nice work, are local & best of all can be specced up so you know they fit before you buy them. Marlin
Spent alot of time in lots of race seats. For my magnificent body, nothing fits better than a Cobra Evolution. FineLine
To each his own. I sat in as many seats as i possibly could for about 6 months. The first time i hopped in the sparco evo 2 I knew it was my seat. What fits one may not suit another, Just keep trying them till you find the one that suits you. phunky_monkey
The nices seats I've tried are the Recaro SPA/SPG (which I ended up buying), the Cobra Evolution above (slightly too thin for my shoulders, and XL was too large in the hips and a pain to fit), OMP and Racetech seats. Your best best is to try them on, as their is a lot of variables. I've got a relatively thin waist, but wide shoulders and I'm tall so it was difficult finding a seat where the harness holes sat high enough, and that I wasn't swimming around in the bottom section. They're all good at that price range in my opinion, so get whichever feels nicest. evil_weevil
I had an OBX daytona (the type Duncan mentions) in the R33 and I also have one in the mx5 as the passenger seat. Not bad for what I was using it for! My drivers seat in the mx5 is a sparco, it has more shoulder support than the daytona and is a bit more confortable. Thats really the experience I have, my .2 cents This is my sparco Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/264774-race-seat-choice/#findComment-4525597 Share on other sites
PHaT MR30
Ive sat in a fair list of different seats I would say the worst was a Cobra Monaco and the best was by far Cobra Evolution S Ive been quite disappointed by alot of Bride seats just not offering much padding or girth (and im by no means a big person) plus their bolt in rails are rubbish. Sparco Pro 2000 is another good seat thats doesn't have wings. but then I prefer the Cobra Suzuka S over that. phunky_monkey
I thought the Sparco 2000 was a really nice seat, but the harness holes were very low. I prefer the Cobra range for sure. Roy
Cobra Evolution or for a lot less money you can get a Velo seat. I find them very comfortable, and flat out the best value for money. The OBX stuff is cheaper again, they may be ADR approved, but i am just not convinced. Is there any proof that they are ADR or is it just like a Supplement Company saying "this shit will get you HUGE!" ? I say Velo Viper or similar, Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/264774-race-seat-choice/#findComment-4525723 Share on other sites
phunky_monkey
The Velo I bought before my Recaro was a really nice seat, but it was too big for me. But good value that's for sure Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/264774-race-seat-choice/#findComment-4525729 Share on other sites
Risking
I had the same problem some time ago. I had a Velo GP90 for a while and switched it out for a cobra sebring S. Ill never change the seat in my GTR again untill I have too. Its comfortable and the head wings are not as intrusive as you'd think. Ant97GTR
+1 for all those saying you should sit in the seat before you buy. There are soooo many variables it is the only way to be sure. Maybe even take your helmet along if you are looking at seats with wings to make sure that they don't get in the way. Noddy
From a trimming point of view I have seen a fair wack of the seats avalible and what ppl like. I have to say it is a very personal thing. Having said that There have been ppl who have found a seat that fitted them but not found comfortable to sit in. Seats can be modified and bolstered to suit what you find comfortable. Finding a trimmer willing to put the effort in is the hard part. The point of the Velos is they are available in different widths so you can get anything from a slip hipped nancy boy fitment to something suited to the fat bastards of this world. Most Japanese seats are very narrow. Also try OMP - they do good stuff.
