Shhh! don't tell people that. They won't be able to bash HKS products anymore

You cant argue though the HKS series one gears were decent.

The marterial was shit and the teeth wore down over time therefore making the Gen 1 gears the worst of the lot

bummer. my advice for ANYONE who fits ANY BRAND of cams gears is to check them 4 weeks after installation. being alloy there is always some 'give' in them. you tighten the bolts on installation but they can and do come loose. on one of my 32 GTRs. big build in japan. brand new crate motor, fully built from new, HKS turbos, 600ps all the good gear, cams, springs, head work blah blah blah. about 2 months after it was built we checked the cam gears. sure enough the bolts had loosened off. and these were tomei gears which run 5 bolts (i only use the 5 bolt jap gears, either tomei or trust). well worth checking.

Or just use stock modified gears

Were they HKS cam gears? Contrary to popular belief, not everything HKS puts out is even half way decent. I have seen their cam gears kill 2 motors. They only have 3 little bolts holding them in place. Really need to crank them little buggers down.

yeah, they really dont have a very god track record.... i went greddy because of this

I don't know what to tell you. I have seen two motors with bent valves that had an HKS cam gear which had slipped all the way to max adjustment. I doubt it was tuned that way and just a coincidence.

And HKS is really good at one thing with their parts. Adevertising. Nevermind, two things. Advertising and over charging for rebadging other peoples products.

bent valves. the pther problem i've seen with HKS cam gears is that shiny blue shit wears down/chips off, resulting in a tooth half the size of what it should be.

at this point, i'd guess its jumped a tooth (loss of power) then jumped another tooth and smashed valves.

I don't know why we are still discussing causes. the only way to suddenly get no compression everywhere is stuffed valves.

But you forgot the other very plausable option, some one stole his pistons.

lol very true....

maybe the gnomes that keep making hammering noises in my bottom end jump into his motor and took them

now we are getting some where, they stole his pistons and rods so they could do band practice in your sump.

This one time, at band camp............

Stop being silly.

You can't have band practice without the lead guitarist and that would mean his turbo would be f**ked too.

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
