nice vid mate! nice driving too. That blue datto(?) sure had some grunt in a straight line. your thing looked great underbrakes and well balanced through the 3rd gear stuff but he had some serious tow down those straights and quicker stuff but then it looked like he ran out of tyre grip (or maybe concentration) towards then end and couldn't keep you behind anymore. looks like you picked up a bit of pace once past him too. car sounds great and looked nicely set-up too. well done. :)

cheers! power to weight for the datto, taking it easy for me ;-)

I was back out at Lakeside today with a whole bunch of changes including a big wing and bunnings spec splitter, ~30mm lower rear ride height, and a rear sway bar - previously did not run a rear bar. Also tried a new camera position which wasn't great - bit hard to see the track. Was hoping for a bit more of a driver's eye view. but you can see what I'm doing with the throttle on the boost gauge.

New PB on semis by 7tenths to 59.07, but had a fair bit of understeer.

Every single flying lap of the day except the first one was a 59. So that's a decent improvement. But I'm no fan of understeer, I like the car to go where I point it. So I decided to try a run without the wing to see what effect it has. Put it this way, I no longer have any doubt as to the effectiveness of wings! Lets say it didn't end well:

I was there to watch it. I want you all to know I've not seen anyone punt the wall quite that far up the hill in a long long time.

Nice work Harry! :P

Although it's shit that you damaged it, we both know it could have been much worse coming onto the straight! That was close.

yeah, a sensible bloke would have slowed down a bit after that big moment onto the main straight... that would have been worse, no doubt.

Richard, the car was very planted with the wing on - just too understeery for my liking. I decided to try a run with the wing off to see exactly what difference the wing made, and got my answer. Heaps! it was nasty with the wing off, but that's not how it normally handles.

Its just superficial damage - panels, intercooler and a slight bend to the radiator support. Pretty lucky - it could just as easily have gone in sideways or backwards and done some proper damage.

Yeah I saw harry getting rather sideways coming onto the straight - my heart skipped a beat! I thought he was going to go in there for sure. You did well to catch it mate. Pity that you didn't have such luck next time :(

bummer harry. it certainly was trying hard to kill you once the wing was off! no more understeer just replaced it with massive oversteer. i would have thought adding the rear bar would have helped cure the understeer but it must be something else. maybe try some new alingment settings?

hope it all gets fixed easily. :)

probly right. hasn't had an alignment for ages actually.

Yep, the wing certainly worked, and it was only 3 or 4 km/h slower down the main straight even into a headwind, so doesn't seem to be too much drag. It was pretty twitchy without the wing. In the car i was planning to put the wing back on at a reduced angle for the next session...

All the way up the hill I thought I had it. Still not really sure why it snapped back the other way like it did.

I have a bonnet, gaurd and intercooler lined up and will have a bash at pulling the rad support out this weekend. It doesn't appear to have done anything to chassis, inner gaurd or suspension.

I might try some more agressive front aero for next time (not that I really know what I'm doing) and then adjust the wing to see if I can get a decent balance. Maybe leaning slightly towards understeer...

GoPro have finally released the LCD screen addon, additional battery and new casing. All they need to do now is improve the microphone and it pretty much wipes the floor of the competition.

not a bad bit of road. shame it wassn't a bit longer, but looks like good fun anyway.

Used to be longer but they said it was too dangerous after a few accidents.

I crossed the finish line just before the top of the hill at 186 km/h and it felt like i had just left the ground or the suspension was at full stretch hence me taking a big breath as it was unexpected.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
