I think if u are injured attending one of these hoon event you still would be covered by TAC since it is on a public road, as long as all parties have rego. Don't see why you wouldn't be

And waste TAC resources that could have been put to better use supporting a victim of an accident, rather than someone who intentionally put themselves into harms way, and then cry for help when natural selection tries to take its course.

And the idea for police sanctioned racing? Bigger holes than the Titanic. Even if you sign your life away, there's still a duty of care to be upheld by the event organisers, which would fall back on the police. The moment that an accident occurs, the ambulance chasers would be all over it - Why wasn't there a medical team on standby, why weren't ANDRA rules/guidelines enforced?, Why were spectators permitted free access to the 'track', Why was the road surface in such poor condition but racing allowed?

To put it in simple terms, if you want to get into drag racing, join a drag club. They can be found at http://www.andra.com.au/. That way you're doing it safely, with the proper support networks in place, and you're insulated from being labeled a 'hoon'. If you're worried about being pulled over on the way to or from events, simple fix - don't drive an unroadworthy car, and don't do dumb things.

lol, I like that.

Look i agree with you, its not a perfect plan, but its a start. I've heard that other countries have similar policies to deal with hoons and it works quite well.

In regards to duty of care, yes, the supervisors should make sure that its safe for spectators to watch but duty of care is a very loose term. As long as the organisers took reasonable steps to ensure ppls safety then it should be ok since every1 that enters signs a disclaimer and assumes responsibilty for putting themselves is a risky situation.

I agree, a proper drag strip is a much better idea, but with calder closed, this could be a temporary strategy.

I mean at least under a supervised environment it will be a lot safer than ppl just doing it at will in the factories with nobody around to control the situation. And safety is the primary issue here isnt it?

i think its funny how the mind works, i agree its stupid behaviour because i want to keep my car and not lose it. plus i got better things to spend my money on also.but the funny thing is though, i have dvd's where you see stuff like this happen and i think it is awsome and good to watch. then i have some where they are in japan doing mountain runs and car factories running there cars on freeways at insane speeds eg. a r34 gtr doing 300kmh on a busy freeway and a crazy rx7 going flat out on a little side road. and i love watching it thinking that is awsome but dont really think how illegal it is. also when you see a ford or something do a burnout or put there footdown you think thats lame. but when you see a ferrari or a really nice mustang or any other nice car you think thats awsome or you hope they do one or put there foot down.

thats how my mind works anyway :ninja: .

lol @ natural selection

man it really does work

my mate jumped off a train 2 days ago

his in hospital in a stable condition, massive scalp damage and a busted ankle. he almost died

my other mate who is like a brother went after him and now suffers nerve damage, he cant close his fist and when he does he cant open it.

his right leg shakes involuntarily.

now i have to feed him & water him at school...

that is natural selection, but unfortunately other people get hurt trying to save the ones it tries to get rid of.

not really relevant but just thought i would share it

Trying my best not to sound insensitive, but your mate who is like a brother went fighting when he should have been taking flight (fight vs flight). Just because he had good intentions doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid thing to do. That's what natural selection is all about. No one really intends on dying, it just happens because they made a bad decision or as an organism they were not biologically fit to live in the environment they do. Other than that, I wish both your friends the best of luck in future and hope they find ways to continue living normal lives.

Taso84 I feel you are on the right track with a solution to the problem as opposed to a punishment, however, there are a few holes that you need to cover. You won't find an insurance company who will pay out on a claim when any form of racing is involved; like taking your car to the race track. To do it properly you would need officiated and dedicated tracks set up, just like any other race track. These wouldn't need to be large or technologically advanced like a proper race track, but literally a well placed and maintained piece of bitumen away from residential area that can be monitored by officials and visited by police in the area.

Reasons why this might not work (atleast I have the integrity to visit both sides of this): Not everyone went to Calder when it was open. We still had this going on back then. The illegal behaviour is a convenience and cost thing for alot of people...it's not difficult to drive for 20 minutes to an industrial estate and drop the clutch on the third horn toot. Then there's the danger of it. Half the thrill is that you're getting away with this stuff in your own backyard in front of friends who can literally high five you while you're doing a burnout. Spectators like to get close to the action, so close that you can't safely replicate this at a legal raceway.

But like I said in an earlier post, this solution won't happen or be considered. I don't doubt TAC would have the kind of budget to fund this, nor would the public mind paying an extra $2 on their yearly registration for the knowledge that their streets are now safer. But let's face it: the State Government has a nice issue to focus on whenever the heat is on about something else, the media love it when they have nothing else to report on, and you best believe that revenue hungry police smile just before they frown when they engage in these busts.

I agree fuzzy, there is a difference between a hoon and an enthusiast...from my own experience I would like to call this difference age.

mate your absoulutley right

i asked him, why didnt you hit the emergency stop?

he paused for a moment and said " f**k!"

so it pays to use your brain and make the right choice

I went to one of these at the start. Saw how dangerous and stupid it is. You are basically waiting for someone to A collect your car B hit you C hit others D cops to rock up

Didn't go again. I got the text, ignored it and very glad i did.

First time i went, i was there for 20 min, got in my car, started driving off as i got bored of "fully sik holdens doing burnouts bro', and while driving off,my luck, come to an intersection, cops, road block. So they checked my license and car, let me off, i assured him he will not see me there again, and he didn't. Stupid.

I like car cruises and meets better, where you can enjoy your car, check out other, meet people and socialise. Not wait for cops and people to get hurt.

my 5c

I agree, this is the reality of it. Half the thrill of doing in the street is knowing that you could be caught.

I guess that one way around getting insurance and TAC to be covered is to not call it a track. Obviously consultation would be needed with the insurance companies but I think they too would much prefer this thing to happen in a supervised environment rather than on princess hwy or tullamarine where an accident is much more likely.

End of the day, similar to the point u made, the police busting up these nights is more about boosting their public image and "distracting the populace" from the real crime problems we have. Why else would you invite 7 news and heraldsun?!

Just out of curiosity what is the criteria for getting an official SAU sticker ? Is it a requirement to be a paying member or can anybody pretty much order the stickers ?

as part of the membership fee - you get given two stickers

ok here is my 2cents.

firstly, matt (femno) has probably covered all of it in his posts. so i totally agree with what matt has said.

those of you saying that you attending the drags and it was stupid, dangerous, dumb etc. i have a question for you guys. why did you go there in the first place?

surely you would have known just from receiving the messege that it will be dangerous and illegal activity would be carried out. what did you expect? barriers and ambulance etc.

those that attend love the thrill of it, yes they all know what the consequences are but they love it so they attend these illegal events at any cost.

everyone is entitled to having there own interests/hobbies. they love doing burnouts, so be it, you don't, fair enough then there not arguing so why should you.

those that are saying it makes the us not wanna drive our cars due to too much attention from cops 'thanks' to these 'hoons'. WAKE UP. regardless if the cop wants to double fist you, he will. ive been let off plenty of times

but have also been unfairly treated, thats life.

NOTHING will ever change it. simple, so you dont like the way a cop is treating you do to your car, as matt said, get a family car, or stop complaining.

end rant.

That's a bullshit comment. I should be able to drive a GTR and not be a target for cops.

Car is fast/powerful > driver's drive car fast and use power irresponsibly > type of car gains reputation > type of car is openly targeted by police....

You guys are pretty simply huh...you don't see cops chasing down Porches and Ferrari's but then you don't see a lot of cock smoking knobs driving them either.

+1

The Skyline (particularly 32/33/34) is tarred for life, or at least until it's old enough to get 'Classic' status. So there's not much point in arguing about it. The damage is already done.

Hooning ain't going away either, not with 1000 drag strips. It's just the way of things.

I think the majority do need to harden up, and if you're so passionate about it become an officer of the law and do something about it instead of having a whinge about it on a forum.

Whoever hasn't broken a road rule, never lost a demerit point can whine about it all you like because really if you have you're giving everyone else a bad rep hence the need for speed cameras, booze busses, road worthys etcs, so why say just because 1 skyline was doing a burnout it wrecks it for every other skyline owner when breaking a road rule wrecks it for every other motorvehicle owner if you get my point.

Hey atleast they had the decency to do it in an industrial estate and not out the front of your house, down the street infront of your local supermarket, or on a busy roadway. Atleast if anyone gets hurt its the people doing it - hence their own fault.

With the SAU sticker, yes joining a car club is a priviledge not a right therefore they should be kicked out as such, goodluck finding whoever it was.

Adzmax - you don't see alot of Ferrari's and Porshce's full stop, and there's also this thing called...prestige.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
