wtf theyre not propperly supported? explain?

and im sure it looks better than the PS2 of...what did you say? 7 yrs ago......might be ported cars etc. but its still a but load better.

im happy to have a new GT game to play. even if it is half of the old one just prettied up.

they did fall behind a bit. with the forza's coming out....and the new king of driving game developers (codemasters) making everything alot harder to compare. DIRT, grid, dirt2 and now the F1. dam theyre good at what they do (although i did expect F1 too look prettier than it does too)

just read up on it. seems the G27/25 does work, just the clutch is a little dicky. some report it doesnt engage/disengage till you press triangle. some just sound like they dont know how to drive and others seem to think its fine. hmmm.

either way, ill be driving with paddles. and im pretty sure most paddle shift cars dont need a clutch anyways :)

So why the hell was it delayed so much?? Generally a game is delayed for 'fine-tuning' but polyphony seem to have done shit all regarding user-friendliness (menus and install times.) Most developers stopped using major installs when you first insert the disc and instead incorporate the install times whilst the game loads different levels and such.

This should have been addressed instead of having an extra pixel or two polished up.

Okay, I just read the review on IGN and it mentions that you can opt out of the initial install screen which in turn will install data as you play along.

Did anyone notice this (if it's true that is)?

I noticed that when I was playing it before the install, it would say 'installing' during loading sequences. However this still appears after the full install, so I don't think it's the same data as what is in the full install. After playing the game with and without the install I'd say in practice the install is not optional. It's really not that bad anyway, what's another hour after waiting 5+ years?

On the topic of game quality, I've played a bit now and I'm loving it. It may just be a refined GT4, but I don't have a problem with that. I'm glad they didn't stray too far from the formula as that is part of what makes the series great.

I played it for abit yesterday after work. And as alot of people have said it's alot like gt4. I'm realy let down by the modifications you can make to cars, no real detail about what each of the different packs include n can't just add certain parts like u could in forza.

And is it just me or didn't there used to be soo many more levels in other games

Yea that the gist of it... but more importantly G25/G27 wheel is not in the very fkn small list of supported wheels that can have their buttons mapped. G25 might be ok, but the G27 has an extra 6 wheel mounted buttons to utilise.

I hope an update (sure there will be a fkn ton for this game) address's this.

Isn't the G25/G27 meant to be the ducks nuts of affordable wheels for consumers???

It really makes ya question what the f*k they have been doing in all the years between Prologue and this game.

The clutch thing is kinda stupid, & was the same in prologue. > if you use the clutch, or at least want to - it means you MUST clutch to change gears.

If you fail to do so, it'll fall into neutral, and then you must clutch, take out of gear, put back in gear and clutch out. Even if you dont time the clutch right it does it. I think I'll be using paddles unless they fix it... but i'd rather use the H shifter. (use the H shifter in LFS all the time... bar the sequential shifting cars).

But yes you can press Triangle at the start and then your all good... but I sometimes (usually 1st to 2nd) like to clutch n pop for funnzies... cant do it with this setup. There should be an option related to clutch use similar to LFS... auto clutch, semi-auto clutch and manual. At the moment its Auto or Manual... and its a google search to figure that out

i need to get my wheel back off my mate. controller gt just isn't the same.

I put a couple hours in last night, it's not to bad. i did expect more polish though.

Has anyone else noticed the MASSSSSSSSSSSSSIVE difference between the 'premium' and 'standard' cars? No dash, about 1/400th of the polygon count. the standard cars look like they were ripped straight from gt4 with no real effort or modifications. ripped off.

it does drive quite nicely though :)

Ok played it for a few hours last night so i'm about ready to have an opinion.

First of all i was dissapointed to see that i couldnt regroove my tires to better suit the track surface... and not being able to change to actuator arm on the turbo.. i mean WTF!!

this game was a huuuggee let down for me... i was hoping for forza in a GT box...

fsck that!

I was having great fun. Yes it feels like an evolution not a totally whizz bang new game where every thing is brand spankers and i can change the dose pipe on my vl.

TBPH who cares if you cant install "specific part x", does it really matter. the good of intake and exhaust, tires suspension etc etc is really the end result we're looking for. I recall nfs shift and it letting me choose which brand of widget i wanted tio put on... and guess what... it added nothing, other than letting me say " i installed an HKS turbo" and my mate asking "does the fact that its hks make a difference" "no..."

but the devil is in the details. the cars you come across in the challeges licenses etc etc are all premium models, so you dont really notice the low res. the low res models are all the filler cars, which really is just to fille the niche of wanting to pilot a car we usedto/do own around a track.

In general it does look a whole lot better that the other g's... as it should, track surfaces look better.. as does the rest of the scenery. the feel of the cars is a big step up from GT5P aswell. not as doughy and feels more communicative even through a paddle. in 5P i would sometimes just feel like was hovering just above the track with some predefined physics anomaly guiding me around... not so much now. Also little things like the loading meter in the bottom corner of the screen, letting you know how your loading up the corners of the car... when i buggered up in a license it gamer me good feedback on what i was doing wrong. probably less important with a wheel.. but a nice touch none the less.

All in all i'm chuffed... it looks feels and plays like a GT game... as it should... i wont miss the options that forza has to offer... i was never really looking for them. But i am enjoying playing a very nicely upgraded, replanned and polished new GT installment.

well said, man with the essay

with regards to the G27....that is kinda stupid that they havent set it up. but from what ive found, no console game uses all 6 buttons on the wheels. theyre always just L and R buttons. PC games you can map them to whatever you like. MMMM dirt2.

+1 for another happy customer. all in all the install took about 50 mins including the 4 mins to download the update. in the 2 hours i played it i did the A and B licence (went back and got minimum of silver for each test in the B licenec), as well as the go-kart and nascar challenges (the first level of each), as well as downloading my chromeline cars.

big question. Has anyone played it in 3d yet? I'm seriously thinking about buying a new 3D tv this week mainly for games and nice 3d movies. would love to hear some feedback.

I played about 1hr last night just played some arcade races. drove an F40 around monza and loved it. didn't make many set-up changes but the car changes a lot with differences in TC and tyres etc. the handling seemed pretty good to me. braking in particular is much improved.

I like it but do feel like an idiot for paying $300 for the signature edition when the game is only $70. that's $230 for some in game cars, a SL55 model, a key ring (not that nice), a usb stick (very nice) a wallet (also nice but I don't use one), a little card case (also nice), an art book (a bit lame really), and a driving book (have not read it). the 'obsidian black' case it comes in is certainly cool. so basically $50-$80 worth of crud +$80 game = $300. nasty.

i got the sig editiion too... didnt notice the card case... where was that.

The apex book is pretty cool, probably a little simple for those who are already familiar with the physics of car handling and tuning, but a great primer for those who arent.

    • Nice, thanks for sharing your progress....that's a pretty long list you are putting into it!
    • Decided to upgrade my pressurised plastic coolant expansion tank for a fancy pants alloy version The OEM versions can get brittle, even the new plastic one I got when I first got the car is a starting to show signs of "stress" I wasn't cheap, but it is basically unbreakable
    • Morning all, I have an RB25DET Neo that's in need of a rebuild. Will need new pistons etc due to detonation damage. Would anyone be able to recommend a shop in Southeast Queensland who I could bring my long motor to for a rebuild? Just want someone who knows RBs and whos built a bunch of them before. TLDR - recommended engine shops for RB rebuild.
    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back. Progress pics to follow -
    • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
