problem is too many people buy these games be it forza or Gran turismo and think its going to be like driving the real thing. reality is ITS A GAME!!!!!! its still fun to have a play with even if its not spot on to real life. so get of your lazy arse and you do better if you think you can.

Seriously if you like it you like it if not then dont play it its pretty simple really.

Either way i like it, cant compare it to forza as i dont have an xbox so im happy with GT5,

lol- just earned a 'Human Stopwatch' trophy

like a metronome baby

i got that on the very first go-kart race, LOL.

the most important thing above all else, regardless of whether its realistic or not is that its fun to play it. i'll tick that box

exactly.

last night i had a go at the seb loeb rally. fook me it's hard. on the snow i'm about 7 seconds off even getting a bornze, so i gave up and went to the used cars to see what was for sale. there was an amuse carbon R (the carbon fibre GTR) but i needed to be level 17 to get it and i was a few hundred points short so i went and did a few easy races to get the points. i was using a s/c shelby cobra that i had bought a few days ago second hand. first race i had the TC on and it was still sliding out a bit. then i turned it off. my god the handling is so much better than GT% prologue and any of the previous games. power oversteer is awesome!!!! it only had sports hard tyres, so it stepped out EVERYWHERE (since it has 468hp and shit tyres, LOL). i could go into the last corner of tsukuba, get the back out a little under brakes and then feed on the power and have it hanging the tail out the whole way round the corner and then have it crossed up the other way over the start/finish line, and i'm only using a controller. it's so much more realistic in how they handle. i did a few more races on other tracks (was only racing lancers, etc so i could dick around and still win easily), and it was great. on the big sweeping corners of tokyo r246 i could hang it out the whole way round the corners (was just power oversteer sort of angle, not fully drift angle with complete opposite look, but it was hanging it out none the less). in the bay area of monaco (or cote d'zur or however it's spelt) i could link corners through the tight left/right/left section before the last hairpin. my opinion of the game has skyrocketted after that (already thought the game was good). it was so much fun!

anyone got gold or silver trophies for the top gear lotus challenge?

took me 15 goes just to get a bronze and was almost ready to throw my ps3 out the window it was pissing me off that much

I agree with this! ^^

FD RX7 with a few mods is great fun for that driving style. It's great fun doing races agaisnt some slower cars and overtaking them around corners sideways! :D

yep i got gold. dominated that sucker. took a couple goes but perseverance pays off.

speed wasnt my problem, i was just having trouble getting around everyone without getting disqualified from impacts and boundary cones. you can drive straight over the orange ones with the white stripe but you so much as tickle a red cone and its game over.

also got gold for every test on international A licence, the final test took me heaps of attempts but finally nailed it. i saved the replay if anyone cares to see how its done lol

since i've had the game i hadn't been on gtplanet for a few days, but just thought i'd go for a look to see if there was any interesting news and i came across this:

Kazunori Yamauchi has been fielding questions from fans on Twitter over the past few hours. The tweets are in Japanese, but with a little help from Google and medhi_san, we can get a pretty good idea of what he’s talking about. Here’s the highlights:

* Flexible camera angles and “dynamic and wide-area lighting needs” are to blame for the sometimes blocky shadows. Yamauchi admits they are a problem and wants to improve them.

* Yamauchi appears to consider the possibility of removing the in-game HUD (heads-up-display features) at some point in the future.

* To unlock the Red Bull X1, you’ll need to complete the “Sebastian Vettel Challenge”, which appears at Level 30.

* Online “lounge” functionality and other features will be added “one by one”.

* Polyphony Digital continues to work on fully supporting the Logitech G25 and G27, though Yamauchi admits he would like a “new steering device soon”…

* Mechanical damage options will be implemented in a new update for GT5 coming “early December”.

* As you may know, many players noticed that GT5’s face-tracking functionality only worked in Arcade mode. According to Yamauchi, it’s not available in GT mode due to memory issues with the PS3.

* In-game rewards (such as the monetary prize in GT5 Prologue) for your performance in online events is something Polyphony Digital is considering, and may be implemented in a future update.

* Gran Turismo 5’s official, 2-disc sound-track will be released soon.

* Yamauchi wanted to implement a “free roam” gameplay mode in GT5, where players could drive around, respecting speed limits and obeying traffic laws, and even exit the car to walk around and explore the environment on foot.

* The YouTube replay upload feature had to be pulled from the final version of the game because it took a very long time to render and it consumed too much memory. Yamauchi is still considering it, however.

As always, it is refreshing and exciting to see Yamauchi’s interactions with fans via Twitter. Let’s hope the medium continues to be a valuable open line into Polyphony Digital as GT5 to evolves!

also there is a new wheel coming out.

A brand new steering wheel, the Thrustmaster T500 RS, first popped up in the game’s settings, as noted by TomN here in our forums. Today, Tom also discovered this teaser animation on Thrustmaster’s website, revealing the T500 RS’ new logo alongside official GT5 branding. The teaser provides us with our first peek at the new wheel (aside from the in-game icon), though many details remain unknown. What we do know, however, is that the T500 RS will feature “unmatched steering accuracy, thanks to the built-in H.E.A.R.T (HallEffect AccuRate Technology)” and “16-bit resolution with 65,536 values in the wheel’s rotation”.

Until we know more about the wheel’s specific features, its most notable attribute is what appears to be its official endorsement by Polyphony Digital. Only the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel has carried the GT logo since its release back in 2008, and Logitech’s loss of branding could mark a significant change in the balance of power in the sim racing accessory market. Thanks, once again, to TomN for digging this information up – stay tuned for more developments.

UPDATE: Kazunori Yamauchi has now also commented about the T500 RS, via Google Translator: “T500RS has great potential.I can not wait to launch the device.” (thanks, matteo!).

So has any one played it in 3D yet?

What's it like?

yeah I spent some time playing in 3d the other day. it's pretty cool. when in bumper cam mode the tacho and speedo reach out towards you like a real HUD. in-car it's a bit full on, behind view is nice in 3D. it's nice but not making me all excited just yet.

OFF :(

I just learnt the track, stopped car slide, brake early turn before corner, power out.

I assume this is the one that climbs skyhigh? I overtook the ghost car lol. That one was my fav by far. Smashed it by like 5secs I think lol.

BTW, getting gold is worthwhile, you win Loeb's rally car ^_^

The amuse carbon R, you win it at some point (I did), so don't bother buying it.

no the eiger norwand rally is the one that climbs the mountain, i'm talking about chamonix. all snow. starts off with a few sweeping bends (right, left, right). my best attempt is about 4:27 and you need a 4:19 to get bronze. my first attempt was a 4:29.

the eiger norwand rally took me a while to get since i kept banging into the barriers and getting disqualified.

what shits me with the sebastion loeb rally challenge the most though is that if you finish you get disqualified and it doesn't hold your time so you don't get split time comparisons so you don't know how much better you are doing compared to previous runs. you just have to remember the times.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
    • When you pulled it off, there is no signs of blown head gasket? Is it possible you have some other issues going on? Possible cracked blocked? Or do you think it's straight up lifting the head? Did you check what the head was torqued to before pulling it down (To see if possibly they're stretching, or starting to break threads out etc)?
    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
