Adagio for String (Samual Barber) is probably the most depressing and yet appropriate piece you can play at a funeral. The William Orbit's electronic rendition is no where as powerful as the original. Take out a copy of "The Elephant Man" from the video store and have a box of tissues near by

Another similar piece that's really depressing is "The Host of Seraphim" by Dead Can Dance ( Lisa Gerrard). Who also sang for most of the songs in Gladiator ..

Got a few more but too depressing to think about

There is no song more beautiful and symphonetic (if theres such a word) as the mentioned above Barbers Adiago for strings.... for those of you that haven't heard it it is amazing..... for all you into the dance scene this was a big trance hit in early 2000 however still made it big without any major beats and still very close to it's original form, if there is every such a song to bring on a tear jerker this would be it, the ferry corsten remix of this is very nice. Also a song by a group called "Hybrid" the song is called unfinished symphony, this is just as amazing.... this would be very close in so many ways on the same lines as adiago for string.. please those of you that like adiago for string find this song... Hybrid is awesome!! Agreed with XRW and simple logic, barbers adiago for strings would be a beautiful song for such a sad occasion.....
