Just had a professional photoshoot with Joel Strickland. The shots he took are amazing. I can't wait to share it with everyone.

Thanks again to all forum members who have contributed comments, compliments, advice, and interesting queries.

Matt, that dyno chart is amazing mate - the curve is identical to my 32, but with an extra 100kw atw! Simply incredible, I can only imagine the surge when you put your foot down. No wonder you're taking your time getting used to it before taking it for a proper hard drive - that kind of power is not to be taken lightly

One question for you - how are you finding the Yokohama AD08? With 100kw less than you, I find my car searching for traction often enough - do the AD08 get the power down to the ground well?

Congrats on such a gorgeous car and amazing result, 100% pur car pr0n. Ben really is a master of his trade.

Cheers

Aaron

Thanks Aaron! As for the AD08s, they provide far better traction than my Bridgestone RE010R in 265/35 R18. Minimal traction loss changing from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd when gunning it. And man, the tread looks cool too!

Cheers

Matt

this 34 is maaad! well done with the build, you must be happy with the power!

Thank you! But I am hoping Beno can ramp up the boost a bit more after my 1000km 'run in'. Another 20-30 rwkw would be good!

Power is an addictive thing, you can never get enough.

fantastic mate.

what dazmo said: "an RB28 with Vcam and set of HKS 25/30 or GTRS would be the ultimate combo in my personal opinion." hold true in my opinion too, especially for a road GTR. having driven build HKS 2.8 with v-cam and a T04Z and one with 2530s but no v-cam I think the 2530s, 2.8 and v-cam would be perfect. get rid of the lack of low down punch that all the RBs suffer from.

the car looks and goes great now. and once the motor is run in properly and you give it 25psi and a touch up in the tune now doubt it will be near enough to 450kw atw which is a very serious bit of power in a street GTR.

to be honest I know exactly what you mean about the 35 thing and in a lot of ways you're right. building cars like this is never the smart choice but the journey is as much fun as the end product sometimes and you can't forget that. remember getting all those little parcels of goodies piece by piece? it's like having christmas once a week at some points in a build. the downside of course is it's easy to spend well into the $100 thousand range on a car like this and many into $200K+. and we then wonder "was it worth it?" well it's the kind of thing you do because it's what you wanted. if you'd saved your money and bought a 35 you wouldn't have gotten this out of your system! and it's a great package. :(

^ Ye agreed. From what Snowman has been saying about his R35, it all rings true. :(

Great build Matt - i've chatted to Sir Benno here/there as i do, yours is one build never too far from his comments :D

Attention to detail is key. I really like the way the catchcan was done in the paint, just something simple yet distinctive to the other can's that Robbo makes.

that's an amazing build!

Again with the dyno graphs labeled in kph :(

Do you happen to know in 3rd roughly where you get 1bar or 1.5bar of boost?

and what is the redline?

so, full boost is X rpm to Y rpm in 3rd? (what is X and Y).

and last question, your vcam controller is visible yeah, what degrees does it display pottering

around and what does it display as you boot it? I've the same vcam so I'm curious.

thanks!

Thanks Beer Baron :( ,

You literally encapsulated my state of mind about the entire build experience - refer to red highlight. I am so glad that so many of you out there understand the essence of modifying and personalising your ride piece by piece.

Hey Moneypit,

The Racepace dyno does not give rpm readout. I have not had a chance to speak with Beno after he finished the tune. Also he does not like to reveal too much details, suffice to say to me just drive the thing and he will be grinning from ear to ear.

The V Cam controller is hidden under the dash, therefore I cannot tell you. I will grill Beno for more info once I have a retune after 1000kms.

Cheers

Thanks R31Nismoid. Beno/Racepace has really done a great job!

That is also why I forbid myself to test drive a R35!

Cheers

Matt

speed is more often used than RPM. it's the same thing anyway but at least a true representation. it tells you much more. if the x axis was in RPM it enables people to make cars look better than they are. for example. if the x axis was set to rpm and I did a run in 5th gear it would look like I made boost really early and make the car look great as the time taken to build rpm in 5th enables the turbos to spool up earlier than they would in say 3rd or 4th. there is no way to hide that with the x axis in road speed as you can easily tell (once you know approx what rpm = speed in what gear) what gear the car was in for the run.

Help! I can't leave my car alone!

New suspension setup is on its way, just another few weeks. Thanks to Import monster which enabled me to get my greedy hands on these out of production Tein RS. They are extremely rare and took many months of prowling on Yahoo Japan before being snapped up. They were definitely not cheap, I hope they are worth it.

Even though these RS are superseded, the quality is second to none even when compared with the current Tein lineup. The external oil reservoirs and full aluminum shock absorbers look the biz. They are fully height; 256 ways bump and rebound adjustable. They will be entirely custom revalved and resprung for Australian roads.

The obligatory pic:

iphotolibraryq.jpg

Just read the whole thread......And i though only in Games people modify Cars like this.......my dear god

R35 might be the latest and greatest........but R34 with Z-tune bits.. Looks so much better.......

You have to, have o, have to take this car to the track to give it a run. Forget times, it will be amazing to just open up the taps on the thing and know you wont spend the year in lock up

Aaron used to have the best 34 around, i think there are now two equally fark off brilliant white R34s getting around Vic

Once suspension is tuned, then this car will surely hit the track. I think the limiting factor on the track will be the driver - moi !

I plan to attend some DECA events in the future, hoping to learn from some track junkies in SAU VIC.

Before that, I hope to take the car on the show/autosalon circuit maybe, if its good enough...

It's good enough for sure mate, however the average auto salon punter will walk straight past it - no high mount turbo the size of a pony, no candy paint job with airbrushed nipples all over it and no 22" spinners. But those who know, will know

I am in the process of organising some final finishing touches to the car, namely to the interior and exterior. Hopefully, it will be fully completed before the end of the year. I will keep everyone posted!

Again, Thank you for all your input and comments!

I am just dying to see Joel Strickland's pro photos of my car.

    • The question then becomes - was there any fluid coming from that hole before you did the rebuild ?    You may not have noticed, of course.   Depending on how you did the rebuild, the possibility has to be considered that somehow (cleaning ?)  fluid entered that hole and is now being 'forced'  out by small movements of the proportioning valve.   From the factory, there's actually a small rubber plug in that hole but with age and under-bonnet heat it's quite common for it to 'go missing'.  That rubber plug is designed to allow the venting process but also to prevent 'stuff' getting to the area (prevent corrosion, etc).   The plug is also not available as a spare part AFAIA. Personally I wouldn't race and buy a new master just yet but keep an eye on the area to see if the 'leak' continues.   If you're concerned about brake fluid damaging nearby paintwork, cable tie a piece of suitable absorbant material over the hole and remove/monitor occasionally.    Operation of the proportioning valve and the brake master itself won't be affected, but also keep an eye on brake fluid level, of course. In terms of a new master, the genuine part is getting expensive, unfortunately.  Amayama is showing AUD900+.   I was searching recently and there's an aftermarket part available from Japan made by 'Parts Assist': https://zenmarket.jp/en/yahoo.aspx?q=BNR32%2bBM50&p=1 Whether it's any good I have no idea, although in my experience Japanese aftermarket stuff is pretty good quality-wise.   The above site allows overseas buyers to purchase stuff more easily from Japan but there are fees and shipping costs, of course.   The original Japanese seller page is here: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p1197401228 Copper/Nickel is fine but I still prefer bundy tube and it's also cheaper.
