Matt,

I am in awe of this build of yours. Coming from a Nissan S15 and continuing my journey with a Storm Trooper Evo X MR literally tossing up as you have pointed out to a R35 you make me regret my decision of buying a White R34 and doing what you have done, which was a 3rd option.

I really hope we can meet one day as like yourself, I am obsessed with white car, black carbon bits and black wheels.

Tell me if I am wrong but it appears your guards aren't rolled yet it appears that you want to do track days? Have you considered a respray in a better white maybe with a distinct pearl?

DYNO RESULT:

This is the email Beno sent me when the car was ready for pickup. I will let someone who knows about GTRs summarise what the RB28 V Cam feels like on the road:

The all important dyno graphs:

RB28 Power vs Boost:

Will post pictures of car this afternoon. Need to clean car first!

was this tune on race gas? as someone pointed out, your lambada = 12:1 a/f. little too lean for me with that much boost, if it was on pump gas.

pump

blitz, i think the tuner may have half a clue on how to tune a GTR when a) has built/tuned a 33 R that was only about 1.5 seconds off a v8 supercar around sandown in full street-trim, b)done something on this build that many thought was not possible without a HKS ecu c) have countless other GTR's getting around oz seeing plenty of track time, from weekend warriors to Targa events.

i think it's safe to say the tune is more than fine

gotcha ya. btw. what is the octane of pump gas?

thats the only way to build them, trust me dude if u saw his car in the flesh u would love the paint work its clean as f**k....

Hey,

Have been trying to find the info in this build but i think there is way too many pages..lol

Would like to know rpm and psi this beast runs to make its power, for interest sake to compare to my setup. Also what head work has been done if thats ok :)

Congrats on this build ;) . Awesome awesome machine...

subscribed - what a beautiful gtr u have there.

with 412kw, is this running e85 or pump? also, what level of headwork do you have i.e. porting, cam specs?

hahah, Marko mate, 3 of the 4 posts above you talk about the fuel!

From my chats with Matt the car has had some headwork, and as far as cams it does have V-CAM so not sure if only one or both cams have been replaced.

Still remember the day I took it for a drive after completed. Truely amazing.....

Thanks for everyone's interest in this thread still.

I believe the my car will be featured in the January 2011 Performance Import issue, at least that's what Jun Sawa (photographer). He also said that the photos thurned out amazing! He is not allowed to show anyone the photos until the magazine article release due to copyright.

As for the queries:

412RwKw output on pump gas, that is 98RON, is definitely possible. Its not the top end power that is amazing, its the low end torque and response that make it fun to drive.

A/F ratio might be on the 'lean' side, however, the car is tuned for street application mainly. The very occassional and brief high boost/lean exertion with street driving should not pose as any risk to engine life. If I were to track the car, Racepace has suggested detuning the engine for bigger safety margin.

Regarding head work.... I am unsure. I know a fully reconditioned RB head was used for the build, but I don't know whether Beno did any sneaky tweaks to it though. If he did, he was not prepared to tell me. Trade secret I suppose and I respect that. The cams are very mild (IN 248; EX 256) and suited to the Garretts -5s.

The V Cam certainly makes a world of difference. Pity I don't have direct dyno comparison on the same engine/turbo setup with and without V Cam.

Sorry, I don't have a power output vs rpm dyno graph. I guess you can convert vehicle speed to engine rpm by knowing what gear the car is running when dyno was charted.

Thanks everyone again for comments!

tangomatt - wat boost you running on the 98ron and whats you rev limiter set to? im sure u have no need to rev this motor out...hence getting the v-cam and extra capacity.

street driving, this thing would be amazing :)

sometimes i wish i kept my setup on the sane side..lol

Looking at the graph above it looks like it's around 22psi of boost.

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
    • Looking for a plenum for rb25 de+t neo  Not looking to push much power maybe 300kw at the wheels, is there much difference in flow for Freddy “Greddy style” compared to original Greddy or options like Proflow or Otaku garage?    I won’t be porting the de Neo head for now as I think it’ll be fine 280-300rwkw but appreciate the help and any experiences anyone has between them and any advice. Thanks  Looking at this plenum for now below

    • Nice one @Pac - looks like a fair few 1600's there!
