I pulled out my passenger seat to put in a GTR seat I just bought, and saw this box kinda thing coming out of the carpet with a plug that must have been plugged into something once. Does anyone have any idea what it is? I am very curious

not sure have a similar thing in my r33 s1, not sure whats it's for. I had a bit of a poke around with the multimeter with the interior light on, then the doors open, and with engine running and i couldn't detect any current.

I've got a SII Gtst and it has both drivers and passenger seat belt warning light harness, plus a cat temp sensor, so could be either, but I'd say seat belt. Logic tells me a cat temp sensor wire would be too bloody hot to go anywhere near flamable materials for at least a metre or so until it cools enough.

If it's the same as a R33 it's the plug for the cat temp sensor. The drivers side has the plug for the seatbelt.
If the car is a GTR, cat temp sensor, non-GTR who knows, most likely the seatbelt (I'm fairly sure only the GTRs have cat temp sensors?)

+1, cat temp sensor.

you can see that it has a stainless braid outside which is required for the heat resistance

nothing...unless its plugged in :D

it warns of high temp in the cat - ie cat blocked.

Yeah but where is the wire it plugs into!! Mine is the same as Pic with the tail but No connection to connect it into!!

Oh and what is that vent thing???? Been wondering about that to!

I checked after someone mentioned it was for the seatbelt and sure enough there is the other half of the plug coming from both the GTR seat and the GTS-t seat i pulled out, but I havent plugged it in yet. I might try tomorrow and see what happens.

Well I plugged it in and nothing happened, how anti-climatic. Kinda seems pointless. I also saw the cat sensor wire with the braided line nearby people were talking about.

I have no idea what it is but ill tell ya a funny trick

If ya fit airhorns under your passenger seat and wire it up to your glovebox

Then when casually cruising along with a friend oneday you ask them to get something out of the glovebox...

Absolutely priceless

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
