^ Agreed. My bro in law has a dc2 with spoon internals and pfc intake exhaust. Goes bloody hard for a 1.8 - wheel spins in 2nd gear without even dumping it into gear. Only problem is alot of kids crash them to that beloved torque steer and understeer issue. SR20's are a nice start though - good strong solid motor and reliable.

just stay N/A rules n regulations r there for a reason... even tho once gettin a turbo ill neva eva go back lol :rant: 2 much fun... but that aside u can still have just as much fun if not more in a pulsar or n/a skyline

+2 my brother had one, lightly modified and it dead set defy's gravity.....

I think EVO or CAR magazine called it "the best handling front wheel drive car in the world" now thats a HUGE call to make and they still stand by it.

Maybe consider the now obsolete Celica, its a 1.8 too, same power as Type R but was a bit heavier and not as good suspension, will still rev its tits off.......

Yeah most Motoring Journalists around the word consider it to be the worls best FWD

... not too sure if you recall back in 2004 when a "P" plate driver got into his dads blue R34 GTR when his dad was overseas ... took his mate & his pregnant girlfriend for a spin down the street ... he managed to tear the entire car into 2 pieces ... which youd think would be quite difficult ... though very easy when you mix inexperience with big power ... they all died ... sadly ...

"he wasnt allowed to drive it" !!!?? ... clearly ! ... he must have picked it up & tore it in half with his bare hands ... what a very sad & pointless waste of 3 young lives ... just in case some people havnt seen this before ... the lesson is DONT allow your young sons & daughters to drive your high performance car when you head out or overseas & more importantly DONT leave the keys to it in the fruit bowl on the kitchen table ... :P ...

omg! i remember that! such a crappy thing to happen to a few pple so young, but not just that every1 else who knew them and had 2 pull them outta the wreck... grr n such an amazing car!!!... a couple of my mates who r firies were called to the accident, n they couldnt beleive it cuz the car really did get torn in half

Looks like a new mines datsun man in the making. 350 gt's are probably a bit pricey for someone of that age unless he is loaded. Get a S2 Rx7 with a 13b peripheral port.

I skim read this thread but:

Just drive a corolla or a non-turbo whatever until you're off your P's. Ignorant people like you got us into this predicament in the first place. Doesn't matter how much Gran Turismo 4 you played, real driving is massively dangerous because

1. you're just starting to drive on the road. Don't care if you're a pro racer, driving on the road is a whole different ball game. The dangers are: other people, shitty roads, things moving across the roads

2. Big power + no experience = death. Most of us have the respect of powerful cars because we experienced it as we drove on the roads. Best way is to start off with a "granny" car, then work you way up over the years.

Sorry to sound harsh, but you can't simply say "I wanna drive a turbo without losing my license". If you like modifying, start off with a good base and do suspension/brakes/etc then save up and eventually do a turbo/engine change. Or find something nice and economical, then save up until you get off your P's then buy a turbo car.

From personal experience, red P's is the most dangerous time for any motorist. You learn not to be silly on the roads and take care/develop judgemental skills. You also realise how shitty the drivers on the roads are. Pass through that part of your driving life, get off your P's so you don't get hassled, then enjoy what Nissan has to offer.

BTW you don't have to miss out on modifying cars while on your P's. I got an R31 Skyline (yeah laugh), cheap as ($1k with 11 months rego). Started doing suspension/brakes/wheels+tyres while on my P's, then dropped a cam in early this year to allow it to make a tad more power. Did two track days at Oran Park (loved it, also destroyed front brakes).

Moral of the story? You can have fun, do what you love, while still being within the law.

It's been changed now to "modifications that require an engineering certificate". I can't remember if aftermarket exhausts need a cert or if they can be self-certified.

Anyway, to the OP, suck it up and learn to drive in a NA before getting a turbocharged car.

Nope, sorry it has not been changed.

I took my quote directly from the RTA website. One could argue that an institution as efficient as the RTA may or may not update there site that often though :D

My suggestion to the original poster... if you want a cheap and fast car look towards a MR2 or MX-5. With some suspension upgrades these cars absolutely fly, not to mention they won't need the strict maintenance schedule a turbo car should have :)

Last year on my greens got pulled over for RBT driving the gtst...

7 demerit points

3 months suspension

400$ was not to sure what the fine was for I think pod filter ? + driving prohibited vehicle

public transport was a bitch for those 3 months... plus you have to wait 3 whole months more before you can get your full license...

I've been on my fulls since last aug haven't been pulled over or stopped once...

    • Which solenoid? Why was it changed? Again, why was this done? ...well, these wear..but ultimately, why was it changed? Did you reset the idle voltage level after fitment? I'm just a tad confused ~ the flash code doesn't allude to these items being faulty, so in my mind the only reason to change these things, would be some drive-ability issue....and if that's the case, what was the problem? Those questions aside, check if the dropping resistor is OK ...should be 11~14 ohms (TCU doesn't throw a flash code for this) ~ also, these TCU designs have full time power (to keep fault code RAM alive), and I think that'll throw a logic code (as opposed to the 10 hardware codes), if that power is missing (or the ram has gone bad in the TCU, which you can check..but that's another story here perhaps).
    • Question for people who "know stuff" I am looking at doing the new intake like the one in the picture (the pictured is designed for the OEM TB and intake plenum), this design has the filter behind the front bar, but, the filter sits where the OEM duct heads into the front bar, and the standard aperture when the OEM ducting is removed allows the filter to pulled back out of the front bar into the engine bay for servicing, a simple blanking plate is used to seal the aperture behind the filter This will require a 45° silicone hose from the TB, like the alloy pipe that is currently there, to another 45° silicone hose to get a straight run to the aperture in the front bar Question: how will it effect the tune if I move the MAF about 100-150mm forward, the red is around where my MAF is currently, and the green would be where it would end up Like this This is the hole the filter goes through  Ends up like this LOL..Cheers    
    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
